Lolita Back Bay Ratings and Reviews
I was here Saturday night with a party of 10 to celebrate my birthday. Although the food and drinks were great the service was an absolute disaster. When we arrived for our 8:30 reservation we were forced to wait an additional hour. I had made this reservation a full month ahead of time and I was even notified the day of by the restaurant to make sure that I arrive to my reservation on time. When I approached the manager to see what was the hold up he simply said "there is a party that has paid their check but they just aren't moving so it could be an additional 45 minutes we just don't know" (on top of the 1 hour we already waited). I just felt like this situation could have been handled differently and that they should have already had our table reserved and ready for us 10 minutes before arrival. I will definitely think twice before making another reservation here.
Our waiter was absolutely amazing! It was my daughters birthday and we were spending the day in Boston. She had done some research and found this restaurant. He charged the teen girls phones for them and took a picture with them (they may have thought he was attractive). I had mentioned it was her birthday at the beginning and he remembered at the end! Only downfall was truly bringing two picky teens to this restaurant. Not meant for those what are picky or not willing to try new things.
My first visit to Lolita's did not disappoint - great vibe and service and interesting menu that presents Mexican food in more of a tapas context. The Mexican street corn, shrimp, and pork ribs were all superb. The restaurant provides a couple freebies that were nice - home made chips with three different dips and a sorbet that can be infused with tequila at your option. We both ordered a specialized cocktail - a bourbon mash and a spicy cucumber margerita Those who want enchiladas or would like a quiet date, look elsewhere.
I was really satisfied with our service at Lolita's. Unfortunately I forgot the name of our server, but she was amazing. Another server brought out our dessert and just randomly placed it on the table and walked away (no biggie but its a drastic change from our actual awesome server) and I dont know how, but she caught it from across the room and came over to make sure everything was right and brought us spoons we were missing. Food was great! Wish I could've tasted some other drinks, but we were so full! Coming back of course.
We came here for my birthday and they sat us at a table in the back corner right next to the subwoofer so the entire time we had to feel and hear an incredibly loud bass. Service ended up being awful, the food was good though. This was my second time here and I'm not sure I'll be back for dinner, maybe just for drinks.
Ate here for a special occasion with my wife, despite booking thru OpenTable and getting a phone call in the morning confirming our reservation, it was lost upon our arrival. That was resolved fairly quickly and we were seated. It took 20 minutes to get a server to our table. The table next to us was seated after us and had drinks, water and an appetizer on the table before we had even been talked to.
After this, the service picked up and was fine for the rest of the meal, the food was great (order 2-3 plates per person) and the sangria was excellent. The scallops in particular were a hit. I don't particularly care for grapefruit or cotton candy so the pre and post dinner compliments weren't for me, but I was told they were delicious and much appreciated.
I LOVE high-end Mexican food and we have a lot of good ones in New York. Here it comes .. this was the best I’ve ever had. The place is beautiful but very dark (bring your glasses and your phone flashlight). BONUS: order their house Lolita Tequila on the rocks. They use an orange wedge, which I thought was weird but the bartender explained why. He was right. The smoothest tequila I’ve ever had. If you’re not a straight tequila drinker, this might make you one.
Lolita absolutely surpassed my expectations! The food was phenomenal and our server Kayley ensured that the evening was special for myself and my boyfriend. We were celebrating his birthday and I really appreciated the extra effort Kayley made to ensure it was one to remember.
The carne asada was to die for and the cotton candy was a nice and playful touch!
I absolutely loved everything about this restaurant. The ambiance, drinks, service, and freshness of the food was a huge plus. All of the small touches (candles, fresh flowers, presentation, etc.) were on point. The surprise cotton candy at the end sealed the deal. Next time we visit Boston, we will be back!
