Two years in a row we've had lunch at Lockwood a few Saturdays before Christmas. Two years in a row we have spent two hours sitting and waiting for nearly non-existent service. Two years in a row I ask myself; why? Why do I waste my time and money at this over-priced crapshoot?!
NEVER again. I might go to Lockwood/Palmer House to admire the tree, but I will never, ever eat here. And unless you want to spend two hours waiting for a server who you actually have to ask the receptionist about/for every time you need something, I would highly suggest you go ANYWHERE else.
Where to begin? We arrived with our baby (10-month-old) and asked for a highchair. "You want a highchair?" Yeah. That's what we asked for. For our baby. Who needs a highchair.
"Do you have a cocktail menu?" I asked. "Let me see if I can find one," she said. She came back 10 minutes later and said they didn't have any available.
We are at Lockwood Restaurant & BAR and there are no available cocktail menus? She went back to try and find some and eventually managed to secure one. It then took about 20 minutes for us to get our cocktails. We had to flag down a second person for my mom's coffee (which went empty about 20 minutes later and wasn't filled up again until we flagged down ANOTHER person about it.)
It wasn't even that busy! There were tons of open tables! I am so flustered about this.
The food was worth about 1/8 of the price you're paying. My pizza was burnt and dry; the lobster roll had more celery than lobster and the $7 fries are worth approximately $2.
When we were way-past-due to have received our bill, I asked the receptionist for it. We waited another 10 minutes before our waitress came over. Where the heck was this woman?! Absolutely unacceptable.
I get it that the Palmer House is historical and the Christmas tree is magical and the whole experience should be just lovely. But Lockwood is dead wood and I wouldn't spend another dime here - and highly suggest you steer clear of it, too.
It was excellent for our Girls Day at Christmastime. We had a great lunch with excellent service and food. The atmosphere was perfect as it was beautiful, quiet enough to enjoy conversation and we were not rushed at all.
Went for the afternoon tea. It was Nutcracker themed. Beautiful lobby and very talented harpist. The food was very tasty and good portions that left me full. My guest and I could barely finish the last tier! Limited tea selection but great classics- early grey yum! Unfortunately, the tables are not properly sectioned off from all of the hotel traffic. Guests checking in and out, tour groups meeting, bring in the cold air, taking pictures, practically hovering over your table. It was quite distracting and annoying taking away from the calm experience of tea time. I think that roping off the tea area and management directing guest traffic a little better would easily remedy this issue. Overall still a nice experience. I would recommend and give it a try, especially if you like tea. Try to request a table away from the hustle.
Thanksgiving Buffet 2017. Wow. Knew it would be great but wow. The servers kept the champagne and sparkling grape juice flowing.
My husband and I were there for Thanksgiving day buffet. It was wonderful.
Glad we decided to celebrate thanksgiving here!
Was there for Thanksgiving prixe fix lunch. Disappointed in hot selections and felt $80 per a bit pricey.
We came for the Thanksgiving buffet. The service was definitely not up to par. We waited forever to get our drinks refilled, dirty plates removed and our bill. Then they ran our bill wrong so they called us later for our card to run again. I will be keeping an eye on that for sure! The food was just OK. For $80 per person I expected more. Very disappointed
We had the Thanksgiving Day buffet here this year and I’m so glad that we did. We were seated in the fabulous Empire Room for our 11:00am reservation.
We enjoyed very good food + champaign, attentive service, beautiful decor, lovely music (harpist) and convenient location.
It’s not cheap—$80 per person—so bring your appetite. It’s worth it!
I look forward to coming back and having a fancy cocktail at the bar in the gorgeous 2nd floor Palmer House hotel lobby while the holiday decorations are still on display.
