Lock 72 Kitchen & Bar
Sunday night crowd on the pub side of the Lock. Food was fantastic. We all had some version of fish, or seafood. Preparation and presentation was excellent. We had Sunday service on the bar side. There was not a server, but the bartender was our server. Service was slow, and not very attentive. Had to remind him to fill water glasses.
Wonderful food & wine list. I would have given 5 stars all round, except for very noisy table behind us
You changed the crab cakes, NOT HAPPY. We brought a guest with us and raved about the food. Our guest ordered the crab cakes and was thoroughly DISAPPOINTING. I ordered a dinner salad with a crab cakes and was TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED. What happen to the River Falls LUMP crab cake? How can WE NOT have GREAT crab cakes in MARYLAND? Lock 72 is our go to restaurant, when having quick overnight, one night guest or a client for lunch. Now, I have to rethink this, not happy.
Yummy Friday night meal at Potomac neighborhood restaurant.
I definitely recommend Lock 72. Had a very pleasant lunch there after a walk at Great Falls park. Salads are excellent and offer some unusual suggestions (one choice featured octopus). The waiter was attentive and accommodated all our requests for variations from the menu. The decor inside is beautiful and if weather permits, the outdoor patio seating is nice.
Pricey but the best octopus salad ever
Good food, very attentive and professional staff. Worked with me on gluten free options by checking with chief and informing me.
Consistently good food and service. Highly recommend.
Go-to place in Potomac village
We were very pleasantly surprised at how delicious our food was. Also, the manager came by several times to make sure we were happy with our meal and our server was delightful!
Everyone loved their meal- wonderful lamb shank p, great crab cakes and octopus.
Great food and service. Highly recommend.
great food; the cod was excellent as were the ribs. They were out of the apple salad at 6:30 and the menu at the restaurant was much smaller than the one found on their web site; fortunately what they were serving was excellent
Whatever is happening here, we say keep it up! Love the new menu, SUPER improved service and overall feeling. We were greeted with a friendly smile the minute we walked in, our drinks took a few minutes, our food came out in good timing and the manager came over to check on us a few times. The quality of the food is much better; you can tell there is a more sophisticated approach. Such a difference from our experiences over the last year or two. Lock 72 is back and we will be too!!!
There have been recent improvements in this restaurant, with new staff and chef. They now allow the “bar” menu to be served throughout the restaurant, which made my husband VERY happy. The house made bolognese had amazing depth of flavor, was slightly over salted. The lamb shank was also really good, but a little too salty. Ingrid provided excellent service. Will definitely return.
Everything was perfect except the coffee. It was terrible and full of grounds.
Service was perfect you must have the broccoli and deviled eggs. Dessert was also amazing
Meal and overall experience were a bit disappointing. For example, it took an inordinate amount of time (approx 25 mins) to get our food (despite the restaurant not being at capacity). Also, the quality of the food was below par: 1) the fries that came with the salmon burger were luke warm at best, over fryed and soggy. Asking for fresh fries didn't help as they came out hot and soggy with the color usually indicating that the frying oil had not been changed in quite some time. We also ordered the frittata which was adequate, but on the dry side. It probably did not help that we watched it sit under the heat lamp for over 5 minutes as the kitchen tried to put our entire order together (we were sitting in the bar). To add insult to injury with respect to the frittata order, we had asked for some bread to accompany it. Not only did the bread not come when the dish was finally delivered, we had to ask twice for it. By the time the bread arrived, we were almost finished with the meal. Imagine our surprise to find out that we were also charged $2 for the bread.
Finally, we found it odd that there were children sitting in the bar. Granted, it was Saturday afternoon and their parents were present, but, we believe the children belong in the main dining room, and not the bar. Just a thought to consider.
I'm still recommending the restaurant because I've had good meals there in the past, but it does need to improve its consistency of service and quality.
Wonderful food and excellent service! We sure recommend it!
Pleasant neighborhood restaurant. A nice compliment to Wildwood Kitchen, a long time favorite.
Great service and excellent reliable food. Great wine list too!!
Excellent service. Manager tried hard to accommodate us because one person in our group is legally blind. Food was phenomenal. A perfect night out for Valentine’s Day. Thank you so much!!!
This was an overall enjoyable first experience for us at Lock 72, with fine food selections from a limited menu. Our dishes were prepared with great care, well-presented, and tasted wonderful, though we will ask next time if the chef could use less salt on our servings. The ambiance was fine, the decor easy on the eyes, but with some noisy guests nearby, clearly the sound level in the main dining area was above our comfort level for a quiet dinner conversation. It may have been quieter over by the bar in the booths. But we liked it a lot, and we'll be back.
Service was slow and server was less then attentive. Food was overpriced and extremely salty as one of the people I was dining with said "I feel like I am eating a salt lick" and she had the burger. Wings were the same way and fries drenched as well.
We sat in the bar area on a Sunday late, was not crowded so not sure why service was so slow and server was basically non existent. This is not the first time I have been here and each time the food is consistently drenched in salt. Typically I will request no salt as a result but shouldn't have to do that for the amount of money I am paying in my opinion.
Overall have yet to have an experience that has been something to rave about. I go because there really isn't much more in the Village to eat at and grab an alcoholic beverage at.
overpriced and underwhelming. mussels were just ok; arugula salad boring
Early light quiet lunch on a Friday, Gravlax was wonderful, as was
the seared Tuna sandwich. Bit pricey, but restaurant was filling up as we left; will have to return to sample other lunch fare...
Excellent New Years Eve Dinner!!! Wonderful menu!!
Not at all impressed
Terrible value burger was below average
French onion soup was bland as was the hummus
Excellent service and the food (salmon and seared tuna sandwiches) was great.
We are regulars and have always loved the food and service. Our most recent meals have unfortunately been just ok. Not sure about the menu changes. People we dined with sent their apps back bc the mussels weren’t cooked. The food service also is lagging for some reason. That said, the servers and staff are always super friendly and warm. Love this place and location, hoping the kitchen gets back on track.
I was very disappointed with my meal. The caessr salad was chopped so fine it was like eating rabbit chow. Although the seafood in the bouillabaisse was acceptable, the watery broth had almost no flavor. It was accompanied by two pieces of toast covered with an unappetizing gooey orange substance. The space is pleasant and the staff is friendly but the lackluster meal did not justify the skyhigh prices.
Great food and excellent service. One of my favorite places to eat.
The French onion soup was too peppery and the potato puree was too salty! Adjust your seasonings.
This was disappointing at best. The wait staff was completely distracted. We were told after we ordered that one of our entrees was not available. Wait staff should know this. Waiter, who was also bartender, forgot a refill for a glass until reminded, then he brought the wrong wine, twice. If you are paying upwards of $31 an entree, it should be really good, not just passable. It would be so wonderful if this place were good, since the location is great. Also, they have taken the crab cakes off the menu, as well as the burger or any bar food. My friend had onion soup to start-served without bread or crackers of any kind. My water was not refilled, so I had to drink my husband's.
Always changing menu with the seasons.. love it. Staff very knowledgable and polite. Feel comfortabe bringing any new friends as the food choices fits all types.
Great little restaurant in Potomac Village; they should put some light on the sign because we had trouble finding it, but it was worth it. The bass was fantastic; served with crispy skin and on a bed of a delicious mixture of ingredients. The hamburger was nothing special, wagyou or wagever. The salad was average; not bad.
Two comments; We haven't had to ask for bread in a long time but here you do; when we realized and ordered it, it was terrific. There is also another secret; the hamburger is not on the dining room menu, although it is on line and at the bar. Then again,it's not really a hamburger place.
Other than that it is a small intimate restaurant very welcoming and very busy, with a nice menu and good food. Perhaps in need of one more server.
We went for a quick dinner. Like going up to the Village rather than Bethesda because there are no parking issues. Locke 72 was very accommodating to pushing our reservation back a little bit.
The wine was great. Food was very good too!
Everything was fine, but the price is 20% above the value. Lower the prices and I would stop by a few times a month. I can walk to Lock 72, but I'd rather drive to Bethesda for a similar meal at a lesser cost.
Popped in for a quick brunch bite, excellent as always. You can see from the photo that they got my eggs benedict just right.
Always a pleasurable experience! A reliable and favorite neighborhood gem!
