Service was atrocious. Food is only fair, nothing spectacular. Salad was swimming in dressing. Romensco sauce was just dumped on broccoloni. Nothing was thoughtful. Waste of time and meal.
Terrific meal at Lock 72, a Robert Wiedmaier restaurant. The gnocchi and the short ribs were outstanding. Service was exemplary and the upscale casual vibe works nicely here. It is pricier than similar restaurants, but we felt that the difference (10-15% higher - about $150/couple) was worth it.
Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. The service was horrendous. First, our waitress was weirdly spacey...arriving at our table for the first time mid-sentence as if we'd already been talking to her and then telling us about how she'd worked too many shifts back-to-back and couldn't think straight anymore. She came back and forth a couple times and finally did take our order. She then arrived at our table a few minutes later and asked to take our order, having forgotten completely that she'd already done it. Our appetizers arrived promptly, but we then waited 1 hour and 15 mins for our main course. During that time the waitress NEVER returned to our table, nor did anyone else. We had to wave over the manager to order a bottle of wine. We then had to get up two times to ask the hostess about our dinner. No one ever refilled our waters or brought us bread. When the meals finally did arrive, we asked for some bread from the person who delivered the food. She acknowledged the request but no bread came. About 5 minutes later, our waitress finally arrived to apologize for the delays and we asked again for bread. The bread was literally delivered AFTER our plates were cleared. The manager eventually explained it had something to do with a 10-minute toasting process for the bread and the need to submit an order with the already backed-up kitchen. Clearly the kitchen was overwhelmed that evening as other tables around us were also waiting a long time for their food. I can understand a busy kitchen. What was unforgivable was the lack of attention to our table overall and the unprofessional and inattentive manner of our waitress. The manager did try hard to make it up to us and comped our drinks and desserts. We appreciated his efforts and the waitress's belated apologies. But frankly the combination of overloaded kitchen and completely ill equipped and unprofessional wait staff completely overshadowed the food itself. We won't return.
I was disappointed in this Robert Weidemeier restaurant. Expected better, especially in Potomac. Restaurant ambiance just ok. Bar area floor, booth and bathrooms seemed dingy and dirty. Didn't have high-end bourbon or much beer selection. Food was just ok; and way too expensive for a suburban shopping center location with average menu and atmosphere. French onion soup was good; but caesar salad was not. Croutons seemed stale and some of the lettuce seemed brown. Short rib was dry and tasted more like pot roast. Sauce did not have richness of flavor expected in most short rib recipes. Server and staff was good, and very accommodating. I may give this place another try; but would have a hard time recommending it.
Mediocre food but great service. I’m not sure that I would go here except for convenience.
Small, cozy, neighborhood atmosphere. Sat at the bar, service was casual, not overly attentive. Food was up and it sat for a bit, had to ask for bill. Salmon wasvery good, but salad was sub par - overpriced for basically a plate of lettuce. Salmon as addition to salad was overpriced compared to what most other establishments charge. Fries overly salted.
Was in for dinner on Friday night. The restaurant had an active, cheerful vibe that was apparent on entering. It seems the menu was recently changed, dropping the burger-and-fries stuff and moving toward a more upscale vibe. Moroccan-spiced salmon entree was superb; if I wasn't embarrassed I'd have ordered two! My companion's gnocchi looked delicious and she cleaned her plate. We split a scallop appetizer which was great. Service was attentive, but the star of the show was definitely the kitchen. I look forward to returning when the patio reopens for the season. Highly recommended!
We frequent here often. What is new w/ Lock 72: new chef, new manager, some new staff. Everyone was friendly but the poor kitchen and servers were slammed so our food took incredibly long. Our waitress was running around like crazy so she wasn't attentive. The new manager, Nick was friendly and helpful and quite apologetic. After finally getting our food, it was very good. We are looking forward to the restaurant getting through its growing pains because we DO enjoy the food, nice staff and location.
Great food in a cozy setting with value wine list. We keep returning to Lock 72 because the food is always spot on and there is always a find on the wine list to pair with the incredible food. This visit was no exception. I opted for the bouillabase and my husband selected the duck breast. My stew demonstrated careful preparation with each type of fish - scallops, shrimp, cod, etc. -- cooked perfectly. My husband's duck was equally well prepared.
Given the difference in foods, we opted for a rose wine from Provence. It paired beautifully with each of our foods. We were equally happy with the $48 price for such a nice wine.
Service was good and Nick, the new manager, stopped by the table to chat. This little gem is worth the drive to Potomac.
Lovely atmosphere, great service and the food was exquisite. It wasn’t particularly cheap, but given the quality, it was by no means overpriced. We will definitely be back.
Excellent meal (pre-set) on Valentines Day. Service was also very good. Highly recommend.
Very nice wait staff. Great food and just the right amount of attentiveness.
I dined during brunch. It was nice, quiet and met my needs. Customer service was excellent.
Great evening. Everyone enjoyed their food. Service from the waiter was a bit spotty but an enjyoyable evening nonetheless.
The Amish chicken entree was cooked perfectly and the wagyu burger was terrific.
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely evening at this restaurant. Start to finish all was excellent. Hospitable staff, and very comfortable space.Initially I was going to have appetizers, but the menu featured duck and I was not disappointed. My husband enjoyed his soup and the branzino special as well.
I am certain we will return.
A nice and cozy restaurant. upscale dishes. Definitely worth the run to Potomac village.
This was our second trip to Lock 72 Kitchen and Bar, and, though good, we did not enjoy it as much as the first. Prices were high, and the crabcake dinner we shared was not as tasty as last time's. Our waitress was loud and a bit confused, though she was trying to be accommodating. Still, we would return to try again!
Absolutely one on my favorite "neighborood" restaurants in the DC region. Welcoming host, great food, attentive staff, warm atmosphere and large bar. This place never lets me down. It is reliable and consistent. Will keep returning and recommending to others in Potomac and the surrounding area.
My friend and I were meeting for a holiday lunch at catch up. We had a lovely meal and both enjoyed the salmon burgers which were delicious. We appreciated being able to substitute a salad for the fries. The service was friendly at atmosphere lively.
Love Robert W restaurants but the menu options are limited and pricey for this location. Would come more often if more choices and lower prices.
Good food, ruined by very poor service. Ice cold bread. 30+ minute wait for any food. New, warmer bread removed from table (along with our other dishes) before we were finished eating. Restaurant was not busy. Not sure what the “rush” was all about. Very pricey entrees. We opted for two appetizers per person. Need to be sure service is better educated before we return.
We have been going for years.
The new menu was a nice upgrade.
For us it hit the spot.
The toffee desert was great.
Always good service.
We go for the booths every time.
Love the salmon burger but wish you would go back to wrapping it in collard greens
Good, simple lunch salads, but overpriced and average. Perhaps we were expecting something creative since this is a Robert W restaurant. Would return to try their happy hour.
i glues the menu is changing. That meant they didn't have four of the wines we tried to order. As a remedy waiter did pour a glass of sauterne after dinner although we weren't tempted to order dessert. The pea ravioli were good - just weren't enough of them to make up an entrée. The crab cakes were delicious but I didn't really want French fries that covered half the plate. Maybe they can substitute another veggie ?
Nice restaurant, location, & fare. Service is always good. Can’t complain except for wine prices.
My husband and I came for weekday dinner on a whim after seeing Lock 72 in the OpenTable app. It was our first time dining here and we won't be back. The place looked promising from the outside in a cute nook of the plaza. Upon approaching we thought it odd that, in the roped off outdoor seating area, chairs were tilted against the tables as if packed up for the winter -- yet there was an occupied table that had been set up for dining. If it's available for dining, especially since it's a warm fall, why have it all closed up and unwelcoming? Was this for the restaurant next door? There was another seating area that was set up so it didn't appear so. Odd! Upon entering, it was clearly a small restaurant. We sat in the main dining area to the left, which is cozy with nice lighting. I just couldn't get past the messy carpeted floor (bits of paper? food?) and crumpled (presumably wet) towels and yellow "wet floor" sign pushed against the open server station near our table. What really made it an unpleasant experience was that there were next to no gluten/dairy free or vegetarian options on the menu. If you have dietary restrictions, DO NOT come here. Practically everything on the menu has to be modified to the point where it's not worth trying. I simply don't understand why, in the area and day we live it, a restaurant like this would not take a more innovative and inclusive approach to their menu. All that said, the service was fine. If you live nearby and still want to try Lock 72, we hope you have a better experience than we did.
Excellent service and great food.
My steak was very tough.
Pleasant and relaxing atmosphere, good food. No need to shout to be heard. NIce.
Anniversary & restaurant in a simple way made it very special!
A few mixups this meal, but a nice gathering spot for a quick bite. Would like the menu to change up more often.
Quiet and delightful. Great food as always and attentive but unobtrusive service
Visited twice recently and both times were very very enjoyable. A friend living in Potomac recommended it. The food was excellent and waiter, professional. We plan to return. There are many restaurants in Bethesda/Potomac areas but not many which are exceptional. This low-keyed one is worthy of a visit.
The restaurant was good. The food was very good but on the pricier side. They were under staffed and the waiter visited us infrequently.
Great hamburgers and salmon burgers. Also loved the calamari and cauliflower side dish. Many other things I will try next time.
We come here often for dinner with our kids. The food is really good and has gotten much better with the new management/ownership. That said, it is really $$ so just be prepared to pay a pretty penny for your dinner. We are happy to have a nice seafood option close to home.
I had eaten there before and it was much better. Food was just "ok", service was a bit slow, and price was high for the overall experience. An odd thing was that not only did they not serve or offer bread but when I asked for bread to go with a salad the server looked shocked, went off and came back with some sliced sandwich bread he offered to toast. Not up to the standard one would expect from a restaurant of its class.
Server was abrupt and condescending. Terrible attitude. Although this restaurant is very close to where I shop, I won't be back, although their food is okay. There are many other restaurants around to choose from. Complained to manager about that particular server.
