Lock 72 Kitchen & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Good food, ruined by very poor service. Ice cold bread. 30+ minute wait for any food. New, warmer bread removed from table (along with our other dishes) before we were finished eating. Restaurant was not busy. Not sure what the “rush” was all about. Very pricey entrees. We opted for two appetizers per person. Need to be sure service is better educated before we return.
i glues the menu is changing. That meant they didn't have four of the wines we tried to order. As a remedy waiter did pour a glass of sauterne after dinner although we weren't tempted to order dessert. The pea ravioli were good - just weren't enough of them to make up an entrée. The crab cakes were delicious but I didn't really want French fries that covered half the plate. Maybe they can substitute another veggie ?
My husband and I came for weekday dinner on a whim after seeing Lock 72 in the OpenTable app. It was our first time dining here and we won't be back. The place looked promising from the outside in a cute nook of the plaza. Upon approaching we thought it odd that, in the roped off outdoor seating area, chairs were tilted against the tables as if packed up for the winter -- yet there was an occupied table that had been set up for dining. If it's available for dining, especially since it's a warm fall, why have it all closed up and unwelcoming? Was this for the restaurant next door? There was another seating area that was set up so it didn't appear so. Odd! Upon entering, it was clearly a small restaurant. We sat in the main dining area to the left, which is cozy with nice lighting. I just couldn't get past the messy carpeted floor (bits of paper? food?) and crumpled (presumably wet) towels and yellow "wet floor" sign pushed against the open server station near our table. What really made it an unpleasant experience was that there were next to no gluten/dairy free or vegetarian options on the menu. If you have dietary restrictions, DO NOT come here. Practically everything on the menu has to be modified to the point where it's not worth trying. I simply don't understand why, in the area and day we live it, a restaurant like this would not take a more innovative and inclusive approach to their menu. All that said, the service was fine. If you live nearby and still want to try Lock 72, we hope you have a better experience than we did.
Visited twice recently and both times were very very enjoyable. A friend living in Potomac recommended it. The food was excellent and waiter, professional. We plan to return. There are many restaurants in Bethesda/Potomac areas but not many which are exceptional. This low-keyed one is worthy of a visit.
We come here often for dinner with our kids. The food is really good and has gotten much better with the new management/ownership. That said, it is really $$$ so just be prepared to pay a pretty penny for your dinner. We are happy to have a nice seafood option close to home.
I had eaten there before and it was much better. Food was just "ok", service was a bit slow, and price was high for the overall experience. An odd thing was that not only did they not serve or offer bread but when I asked for bread to go with a salad the server looked shocked, went off and came back with some sliced sandwich bread he offered to toast. Not up to the standard one would expect from a restaurant of its class.
Server was abrupt and condescending. Terrible attitude. Although this restaurant is very close to where I shop, I won't be back, although their food is okay. There are many other restaurants around to choose from. Complained to manager about that particular server.
worst dining experience i had in a long time. service so bad, walked out after drinks.
not bad service- really NO service. and no apologies from the waitress or manager, if there was one.
i never send in bad reviews. however, this is a question of ethics and arrogance. hope wiedmeir reads this. he should.
I've been to this restaurant numerous times and have always had great food and service.
This last visit not so in terms of food. Others meals were great, food hot, etc. I ordered steak frites medium. It came out mooing, so I sent it back...only to have it come out again the same.
An offer to return it to the kitchen once again was not an option as others in my party were almost finished with their meals. My dinner was barely eaten. The only offer of compensation for a less than stellar meal was a cup of coffee.
As I'm sure I will go back with guests, I will attribute this "snafu" to too busy a night for the kitchen.
This is a tastefully decorated eatery. We dines at a time when few people were around and enjoyed the quiet. The service was exceptional. It's always a test when I order a really cold martini. One with ice crystals formed on the surface. The waitress made sure that's what I got. The calamari were crunchy and accompanied by a fine sauce somewhat different from the usual tomato based cocktail sauce.
Normally this is one of my favorite restaurants, with delicious food and drinks. Yesterday's visit, however, was a bit disappointing, because the restaurant had run out of tea selections. There were a few bags of decaf black tea, a few bags of peppermint and a few of chamomile. That's it. So I cancelled my tea order. How does a restaurant run out of tea? It's surprising.
Despite that, the food was delicious as always, although I had to request salt and pepper more than once before it arrived.
