I really liked that they gave you a menu with a selection of meats at price and then below was a list of some lovely side dish but the price of the side was covered in the price of the meat.
We had the lamb rack and the duck both where perfectly cook.
Great service, food & atmosphere before the theatre.
Great food.. Had a nice family meal before a show good value.
We ordered the pre- theatre dinner, was not much variety for vegetarians, for entrée I had the tomato soup and it was very spicy, the sister ordered the pork belly which she enjoyed, for mains all I could order was the vegetarian tasting plate and so did my sister, well the bun for the mini burger must have been made in the stone age it was very hard and disgusting, the pasta not very flavoursome, the chick pea concoction very bland and the fritters no flavour whatsoever. The sides were bad.
Excellent restaurant & food.
Great pre show dinner. Fantastic meal in the time needed to get to the theatre. Big thumbs up
We have gone to Locanda on a few occasions. It has delivered as an outstanding experience until recently. Our last time was disappointing, but decided to give it another go. We now wish we hadn’t. The food had dropped a level. It’s acceptable and edible, but you expect a lot more than that from top restaurant when your paying $250 for a couple. Maybe the Chef lost interest or passion for the place and needs a new venue.Locanda was in my top 5 gems of Melbourne, not anytime soon.
On arrival our host attempted to locate a better table. We didn't ask or even think about where we might be seated. It was just something that was thought about for us and I was taken by their thoughtfulness.
We enjoyed a pre-theatre dinner of 2 courses (3 courses are available as well). We were served fast but not rushed. Everything was flowing from drinks, to courses to clearing away and the bill.
The next morning we enjoyed a wonderful buffet breakfast.
Locanda - we will be back!
Menu small but something for everyone. Great wine and beer menu. Service very good. Staff professional, friendly and accommodating.
I found this place on my Entertainment Book app - it had good reviews. The menu looked interesting as did the wine list. Disappointed to find that it was basically rather pub like with the wide screen tv on one side of the restaurant which was set up like a public bar. Consequently, the ambiance was not that great. We were seated in the restaurant section but could still hear the noise from the bar area. The food was acceptable but nothing special.
My husband's steak was over cooked and barely edible. Pumpkin was nice. My steak was nice. Chips were completely inedible. Tasted like they had been fried 2x. My desert, an apple pie - the pies in the frozen isle at the supermarket are likely to be of better quality. The entre - pork belly was the highlight of the meal.
The bill of $180 did most definitely not reflect the quality of the food. In my opinion it is on the same quality level as franchises such as TGIF.
We were disappointed we seem to sitting in a walkway even though we booked well ahead of our date. The service was slow and poor, waitresses leaning across in front of our person. Forgot one of our sides and no offer of compensation. Very noisy environment where we were.
Great food and service. We had the pre theatre menu (group of 8) Great value. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.
We had dinner prior to going to the theatre and found the staff to be extremely friendly, our food was delivered promtly and in a timely manner for us to get to the theatre on time.
All our food was delicious and beautifully served by friendly staff.
We will be back and would highly recommend it to others.
There for pre show dinner
Relaxed and romantic setting
A grade quality food.
Reasonable price and value
Quantity was above value for what you pay .
Noticed that there was a choice of dining . We dined restaraunt dinner but bar/lounge meals were adequate as well
Steak was good but the Chicken Schnitzel was just average
Perfect for pre show dining.
Staff recommended the best way to enjoy our meal in time before heading out to The Princess Theatre.
Great wine choices, beautifully presented food which tasted wonderful and very friendly and professional staff.
I will definatly go agiain for dinner.
We were very pleasantly surprised with the care and attention we were given before and during our meal and the food was delicious. Also loved the opportunity to complete our meal after the show that we went to see. We will definitely be back!
Booked table for 12:15pm arrived 12pm places order 12:10 waited till 1:15pm for meal. This is for 3 people only and only one other table with patrons. Then asked for dessert menu another 10 mins wait for someone to clear the table and bring dessert menu. Then few mins of wait to place order. Asked how long will it take. We were told 10 mins. Wait way too long for 3 mains to arrive, one tortellini, one schnitzel and one fish and chips. Felt like we were dumped in the corner and forgotten
Myself and seven guests were very happy with the friendly service and level of food. Only one friend's steak was undercooked but all in all the food was fantastic.
Waiting staff twice brought wrong drink to table. Just dont think they listened to the roder, probably due to inexperience.
Had the smoked tomato soup. The smokeing totally overpowered the soup...all you could really taste was the smoke. Give the soup a miss. Stekas , on the other hand were nicely cooked to order, if a little over-charred.
Exceptional service! Upon arrival we were greeted and seated promptly for our two course pre-show dinner. Our waitress was amazing with my dietary requirements – not only am I fructose intolerant but being pregnant wipes off more of the menu. Every question I had was no drama and the kitchen were very observant and went out of their way to ensure I got to eat what I wanted and it was cooked specifically for my needs. I would highly recommend dining here for anyone with or without dietary require
Great food and service
Close proximity to the theatres was a massive plus. Set menu is good value with lots of choice.
Very impressed with the food and service. We had bookings for the theatre and everything went perfectly.
Booked and arrived early for pretheatre lunch. After my entreaties lunch arrived 10 minutes before curtain. Food was only passable and clearly preprepared from bought in produce. Venue is clearly poorly managed and understaffed. We could not finish our meal. Other diners who had arrived even earlier also complained to us giving the same reasons. Locanda needs to get its act together. But for us ...NEVER AGAIN.
Excellent quality food at a reasonable price.
Pleasant spot with comfortable semi private seating (booths) and good food/wine. Waiters friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed it and my company.
Near to theatres. Food very ordinary. Overpriced for the limited pre-theatre selection
Went there for Mother’s Day buffet lunch May 2018 food was very nice staff seemed like they weren’t interested in making Mother’s Day Special, was given a looked like week old bouquet of flowers had to pay extra if you wanted to drink more than water.
The cooks behind the scene were fabulous and friendly Not so with the floor STAFF.
As a pretheatre venue, Locanda was excellent. Our waitress was brilliant in organising the menu selections to our requirements and assisting in selection of dishes to accommodate the time factor. Some interesting flavour combinations and we were happy with the wine selection available. We would certainly come back again under similar circumstances (i.e. dinner and a show.
Prompt friendly service, asked about time requirements or limitations at the start of service
Great cocktails and wine list
Food was quick yet well paced
Style of meal was elegantly simple highlighting the product being ordered
Definitely will return and recommend
We went to this restaurant as it was touting "Italian". It was across the road from the theatre we were going to.
Except for my steak the food was barely passable. the hamburger was not attractive as it cam to the table and did not look any better as my husband picked bits out of the middle of it. The steak was good but it was just a steak....no salad, not sides save for chips. The club sandwich had okay fillings but the bread seemed to have been lightly toasted but with no colour.
We had lunch before going to a show across the road. $45.00 for 2 course. Main and dessert both very nice, quick service. We will definitely do it again next show we go to.
Food was great, service was great, had a really lovely evening. Highly recommended
We booked for pre theatre dinner. The menu selection was varied and not too confusing. The servings were generous and flavoursome- in particular the steak and the chicken were well cooked. Our friend had the duck which she said was very tasty. Would highly recommend and return.
Great central spot for theatre goers looking for a lunch or dinner before show , make sure you let them know you are going to a show as food service was a little slow but well worth the wait
Pre theatre meal requested and provided with time to spare. An early diner discount of $10 per person. Busy with pre theatre and after work crowd. Lively high vib adjacent bar, but didn't intrude. Good food, reasonable service and value for money.
Fantastic service and the food looked and tasted awesome. The steak just melted in your mouth. The location is great for theatres or shows. We came back after the show for some great cocktails.
Booked on-line for Sunday Pre-Show lunch at 12:00 and left Comment that I needed to be out by 12:50. We arrived at noon and were shown to a table for two by a very pleasant staff. Chose 2-course option as good value. Order taken within 5 min.and 1st course served by 20 past. Steak was large and cooked to perfection. Caesar Salad not so good. Time now 12:30. We had to leave without Dessert course, as not served by 12:50. Not good! Had to return after show for dessert and coffee. Can only improve.
