Locanda Positano Ratings and Reviews
This is our "go to" restaurant for special occasions. We love the coziness, great wine options and delicious food. Ask for the dining room as they have an annex but it doesn't have the character the dining room has. We usually get a bottle of a Super Tuscan red, an appetizer to split (the burrata with heirloom tomatoes is a favorite), and we each order an entree and split a dessert. Going to Locanda Positano is a treat we always look forward to. It's a good idea to make a reservation.
This is a very difficult review to write because I have been a fan of Locanda Positano since it opened in 2010/2011. In fact, besides going 3-4 times per year, it has been a tradition for the past 5 years to go there on New Year's Eve as I did last night. But that might have been my final visit. I had a reservation but the front was full. I would not have minded waiting. But they took me to a back room and told me it would be just like the front. But instead, although it was empty when we arrived, it began to fill up. That was fine. But then, the table next to me quickly got filled with more than 10 young men who were loud and boisterous and a bit off-color. I am not a prude but this was very insulting that I should have been put through that. All of the other times I have gone to the restaurant, the chatter has been lively but not boisterous - like a sports bar at the super bowl. I complained and they took $15 off my bill. But actually, they should have refunded my entire bill because I left feeling much worse than when I arrived. In other words, this New Year's Eve, Locanda Positano was a punishment rather than a reward and I don't know if I can ever find the desire to return. Very sad because I love the food and the service and always looked forward to going. I am not sure what was worse - the crowd noise in the back room, or the insult of being put next to that group.
Been here many times - my favorite Italian place when traveling to LA. Quite disappointed with experience this time - lamb chops were cool - mentioned the fact they were not hot (to the waiter) - he smiled (auto reaction) and left. Very surprising for such a great place. Oh, I ate them!!! Expect more from this place.
There is plenty of street parking in front or behind the restaurant. The food looked great. The sausage pasta was very salty. The steak was cooked well but the char tasted like the grill needed to be cleaned. The desserts were excellent and the best part of the meal.
We've been back several times and it still is my favorite Italian restaurant. This time we had the black ink tagliatelle with rock shrimp, sea scallops, and saffron sauce and the tagliatelle with veal bolognese sauce. Both were very tasty. Both were delicious! I highly recommend this quaint jewel in crazy MDR.
The food is delicious. Home-made pastas: we had the spaghetti carbonara and rigatoni short-rib w/ a tomato cream sauce - both were amazing dishes along with the calamari and Gorgonzola salad to start. The service was warm and attentive. It was great for a date night, would be fun for an intimate dinner with friends and family too. The place has a very cozy and warm feel.
We went here for my birthday because the food in incredible, the service perfect and the ambiance lovely. It's a very small, cozy restaurant but the owners and staff go out of their way to make you comfortable and welcomed. Did I say the food was incredible?
Neighborhood gem in Marina. Tiny place with warm, upbeat vibes. Great service . Food was good , with excellent pear and arugula salad , Linguine with clams and crispy calamari and shrimp. Other dishes were just OK-- tagliatelle with shrimp and scallops in saffron had a sauce that was too thick and tiny shrimp- which , at $32, was surprising; chicken parm also pricey. Desserts not up to snuff. Will go back but order more cautiously, staying with plainer dishes. Nice selection of wines by the glass .
We have been at Locanda several times. This time was for our anniversary. As usual, the food was excellent and the service first rate. It's easy to drive by this gem as it's on busy Lincoln Blvd in Marina Del Rey but its well worth a visit. It's not cheap but it's worth it for what you get. The portions are good sized. we highly recommend it
It is unfortunate that a place with the ability’s to have charm made me and my party feel like they wanted us out the minute we walked in. Everything about the meal was rushed. They actually picked up our unfinished appetizers to quickly put down the main course. It was a very disappointing experience and I will never go back.
Our anniversary dinner was delicious as always. We love the intimate atmosphere. However, tonight there was a birthday party for 9 across from us which changed our usual quiet atmosphere into a much more loud environment. Also no mention of our anniversary or any acknowledgment despite adding that to our reservation. Oh well. We made the best of it.
Wow, was my party skeptical: Lincoln Boulevard? And yet there were those customer reviews...
We had a terrific meal: The best tuna carpaccio ever and an excellent short rib bolonese (sort of) rigatoni were standouts, but everything was delicious. Definitely a find.
We have been to this intimate Italian restaurant several times, and the food has always been excellent. The owners circulate in the small dining area and are open to answering questions about the food and wine choices. Our only complaint has been that the noise level can be quite high if all the tables are in use (as they were during our most recent visit there). If a few raucous folks fill the space with noise, quiet conversation becomes difficult. Despite this downside, we will be back.
YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY !!!! The only thing I can say is, "Sure wish you were open for lunch!". As with my first visit last month, the carpaccio, fried calamari, linguini vongole, and tiramisu were fabulous. Everyone is friendly and the service is impeccable. The restaurant is small and cozy which means it can get very loud. However, the epicurean experience outweighs a little noise. 😋
Going to Locando Positano is like going to Italy. The food is fabulous, authentic and well portioned. The restaurant is modest, but elegant. The Wine list has several great wines to select from to pair with the food. Recommend the Calamari, light and crisp with an excellent dipping sauce. The heirloom tomatoes are incredible with the best burrata cheese I have ever eaten. We had two pastas. My seafood pasta with a spice red sauce, was simply divine! We unfortunately were stuffed, so no Secundo. We did manage to share a tiramisu. Again, it tasted like we were actually in Positano! Molto Bene!
