Locanda Portofino Ratings and Reviews
Unbelievable experience. We ate out on the patio which had great energy on a beautiful evening. Our waiter, Brune, picked our Italian white wine for us and the evening just took off from their. The fried calamari were lite and very fresh. Caesar seasoned perfectly. I had the pasta special with OSSO Bucco meat balls in a blended sauce. My wife and children had a variety of Tagliatelle pastas. All of the main courses were perfect.
Between the ambience, wait staff and food it would be difficult to have a better dinner experience in the Santa Monica area. Strongly recommend!!!!
The restaurant is attractive and has a sophisticated clientele. IOur food was very good, but it did take an hour before we were served our main course. Theappetizer salad came promptly but the portion was very small. It's a bit pricey but definitely one of the best Italian restaurants in the area.
As always, the dining at Locanda Portofino was excellent. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The food is incredibly good; beautifully prepared and simply presented- the food is the star. The wine list is varied with unique picks that go well with each dish. The wait staff is the best part and makes for an enjoyable evening.
Stopped by early 6:30 - with reservation and was greeted by name. Food arrived when promised and wine taste before the order -both appreciated. Excellent results in both cases. My wife said her risotto was the best she has ever had. Can't have a better date than that.
We've been going there for many years and they have been slowly self-destructing. Although the food was still very good, there seemed to be an "I don't care" attitude with the entire staff. The restaurant was only half full at 7PM on a Saturday night but it still took them 15 minutes to offer us a glass of water and then another 20 minutes to open the wine!!!! Seemed like they were doing us a favor by allowing us into their restaurant. Probably won't return.
This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in all of Los Angeles! I don't live here anymore so every time I visit I always make sure esto get dinner at Locanda Portofino at least once. The food is top quality, prepared perfectly. And the waitstaff is excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. Plus they remember you after just a visit or two. Very welcoming. The sea urchin pasta is my favorite, you won't be disappointed.
I looked forward to a good experience at this inviting restaurant but was disappointed. Our waiter was very nice but he and the rest of the staff seemed to have a tough time staying on top of our needs... water, coffee, and bread refills were hard to come by and always required a request. Forks went missing. No spoon with my spaghetti. Food was generally good with the exception of my wife's risotto. Excellent cappuccinos. Overall, the experience was mediocre at best and there are too many other good alternatives to warrant a return trip.
We went with our family of four. The food was good. At our table we had the swordfish, taglietelle with bolongse sauce and gnocchi. The gnocchi was not our favorite or the best we have had. Portions in general were small but enough food. The servuce was terrible. We waited to order, waited for our food and waited for dessert a very long time. We are not regulars so I am not sure if they favor the locals or if the service is just terrible.
The restaurant did not serve spirits which was most disappointing. The food was passable to fair. Pasta was a little mushy; should have been aldante. Noise level was too much. There was no sound attenuating material on the ceiling or walls. For a small neighborhood restaurant the venue should have been quite with good food. It wasn't.
Terrible service, extremely long wait for food, under staffed, and out of main dishes at 8:30 pm. Very disappointing. Too add insult to injury, 2 wines on the extensive wine list were unavailable, but more expensive options were not surprisingly offered as replacements.
Went here for Valentine's Day 2017 and had a terrible experience. Service was awful, took over an hour to get our food and we were left without water and wine a couple of times, having to get up to ask the waiter to come to our table to refill. Multiple tables just got up and left because it was so bad. Might recommend coming here on a different night, but do not recommend it for a special occasion like this.
I truly understand that Valentine's Day is a demanding time for restaurants. Let's break it down piece by piece.
1. Food is truly outstanding, portions are on the small size
2. Price point was extremely high even for this type of event.
3. The service and crowd control was poor. They were overwhelmed. This is a poor decision by management to get so many people in there.
4. We could not enjoy ourselves due to the noise level and hyper activity. The tables were so crammed in , you could not move at all.
5. Waiting for a check is unacceptable.
6. We did get my wife's second drink on the house. The original request on her steak was not followed to her satisfaction.
7. The wait staff commented after the meal, " please come back another time when we can talk."
Will come back , but not anytime soon.
Usually this place is amazing, some of the best Italian I've ever had. However, we went for Valentine's Day because it's her favorite restaurant, and it was a DISASTER. They completely overbooked, had horrible service, no seating room, and the food took almost 2 hours to come out. It was about double the price as normal, they were just in it for a quick buck. Shame on them
We were there for valentine's Day dinner. Apparently they decided to add a lot of extra tables for the day. Had to wait in 10min line just to check in. Finally when we were seated it took awhile before a waiter showed up. The food came out after a very long time, my pasta was cold. The menu I looked at had prices (as a man) but my wife and sister had menus with no prices. I asked for a bottle of wine under $100 and they kept giving me options $150+. Their prefix menu didn't have anything we wanted and turned out my wife and sister ordered $80 steaks that normally was half the price any other day.
Locanda Portfinio was awful tonight. Amazing any other day (which we come a lot) but a complete waste of money tonight!
It was Valentine's Day and slammed, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but the bread was bad - flavorless and cold - and the food was fine but overpriced. $60 for grilled salmon that was likely farmed Atlantic salmon and a side of mashed potatoes and way over cooked broccoli. My fiancé for cannelloni stuffed with ricotta that was pretty good but nowhere near $65 good. The wine was excellent and everyone was nice. Good ambience but felt ripped off given the mediocre food and $300 bill.
