I thought the service was slow to begin with. Also, the Cesar salad I would not order again but I loved the vodka pasta dish. I would go elsewhere for dessert too.
Always enjoy my meals here. Their menu, staff, and atmosphere provide an authentic italian dining experience.
Consistently great food and ambiance.
Our favorite Italian spot, we dine there weekly, gnocchi is amazing
Best italian food
Great food, wonderful menu & wines, wonderful service from the bus servers, fantastically horrible service from the wait staff. Ignored most of the time. The check came before we had asked for dessert. Truly terrible, terrible service.
Excellent, unfussy cooking with superb ingredients and served with great charm
Always good Italian food and excellent service. Very consistent and enjoyable experience.
They more than doubled prices on Valentine's Day which is not an unexpected. However the service was terrible. While the waiters were nice enough, we had to wait nearly an hour for our food while many other customers that came in before us were served. They apologized and gave us a $10 desert for compensation - not nearly adequate. We really should have been comped the entire meal.
For Two Plates of pasta a bottle of wine and two appetizers the bill came to $350 before tip. That would have been okay if the quality of the food match the price. But the quality of their food is no different than what you can get for$100 across the street.
On a night when they should be on top of their game they really disappointed.
It is a charming local neighborhood Italian restaurant. The service staff are quite friendly and accommodating, although on a busy night as it was when we were there on occasion one gets lost amidst the throng of diners. The food ranges from quite quite good to merely "ok" depending upon what you get. For example my wife had the filet and thought it was one of the best she has ever, and one companion had the chicken parm which was quite tasty, although the swordfish his wife had was overcooked and dry. The salmon I had did not stand out as compared with any number of other establishments. Perhaps it was an off night due to how busy they were but at least based on this first experience I would tend to stay away from the seafood. We all enjoyed the place overall and on balance will return to try it again.
Service was appalling. 630pm reservation - server told us the specials then proceeded to say there were out of them. This is at 630pm. He wouldn’t take an appetizer order for my pregnant wife because he said everything had to be ordered at the same time. Also refused to split a pasta dish because it was “a busy Saturday night”. Very disappointing.
Great food and place. The kitchen seems very small because the food takes forever. Our meal took an hour and 15 minutes. And we didn’t even order appetizers.
food was terrific and wine selection excellent. we don't live on the westside, and look for places to eat when we do go out there - this one is a keeper
Amazing food and amazing service! If I'm in town on business for a week I'm at Locanda 3 out of the 7 nights.
The best food in LA!
We’ve been there many times and unfortunately the restaurant has turned into a very middle of the road type of restaurant. Not horrible but certainly nothing special. No reason to go back when fabulous restaurants are opening all around.
Dinner was good except we felt VERY rushed to eat and leave. It was NYE and they were busy.
The veal marsala was substandard; terrible marsala sauce. Two separate pasta dishes ordered both tasted the same. Significantly overpriced considering the quality of food. It is on my very short list of L.A. restaurants not to visit in the future.
Open on Christmas day for a birthday dinner for my brother. First rate food, service and hospitality
Legendary local Italian lives up to hype. Great dinner. Took great care of us. Always very comfortable. Pricey, but rock solid quality.
That was our 3rd time at Locanda Portofino. It has to be one of the best Italian restaurants I've been too. Very authentic and the selection of wine is fantastic with the food
Beautiful evening on the patio, food was excellent.
Amazing food...will be back often.
Our favorite restaurant. Fantastic menu and great wines. Highly recommended.
While we have had many meals and Locanda Portofino and have been back often, this meal was the worst we have had there. The table was not ready at the time of the reservation and we felt they seated a party before us who did not have a reservation and then made us wait although we did. The service was painfully slow. We felt largely ignored. Our wine didn't come until after our food when we reminded them about it. And the food was extremely bland and generic. We didn't even consider staying for dessert because we just wanted to get the check and leave.
Good food. Authentic preparations of Italian classics. The service was excellent as well. Somewhat pricey but probably worth it because of the quality of the meal.
Unbelievable experience. We ate out on the patio which had great energy on a beautiful evening. Our waiter, Brune, picked our Italian white wine for us and the evening just took off from their. The fried calamari were lite and very fresh. Caesar seasoned perfectly. I had the pasta special with OSSO Bucco meat balls in a blended sauce. My wife and children had a variety of Tagliatelle pastas. All of the main courses were perfect.
Between the ambience, wait staff and food it would be difficult to have a better dinner experience in the Santa Monica area. Strongly recommend!!!!
This place was awesome and very reasonably priced---the food was terrific and service was impeccable. It was quiet and interior decor was quite relaxing. Best part was the pricing was very reasonable for top notch Italian food. We will definitely be back.
This is a great Italian cuisine served with exquisite care.
The restaurant is attractive and has a sophisticated clientele. IOur food was very good, but it did take an hour before we were served our main course. Theappetizer salad came promptly but the portion was very small. It's a bit pricey but definitely one of the best Italian restaurants in the area.
The food was first rate. Seafood pasta had excellent shell fish. A bit skimpy on the pasta, especially for the price.
Word to the wise, corkage is $40, way over what is warranted here.
excellent food and service!
Went for our anniversary. Always great authentic Italian food. Waiters friendly & professional.
One of my favorite Italian restaurants when I'm in LA from NY.
Zorren our waiter is the best and a total pro. I always let him
pick the wine and he never disappoints!
Food was superb. Risotto with mushrooms, saffron sausage cooked to perfection. Spaghettinwith uni sauce excellent as well, even with gf spaghetti. Always great selection of wine bathe glass.
Great wine. Great pasta. Go to for good Italian food in Santa Monica on Montana.
Food was amazing as always! Service was a little slower than usual...had to ask for water refills, someone to clear the empty wine bottle, etc. Would definitely go back though since you can't beat the authentic Italian food!
As always, the dining at Locanda Portofino was excellent. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The food is incredibly good; beautifully prepared and simply presented- the food is the star. The wine list is varied with unique picks that go well with each dish. The wait staff is the best part and makes for an enjoyable evening.
This restaurant has incredible authentic Italian food and service.
