Love this place! Food is excellent. Ambiance is beautiful as a rustic small Italian place, very understated. Wine selection is brilliant, service is very good, friendly.
Nice restaurant, good food, but portions are small and overpriced for the Italian food.
The veal with lemon caper sauce is a MUST
The food was fabulous. Had a very nice corner table.
Warm and attentive service. The octopus was perfectly cooked. The gnocchi reminded me the one prepared by my italian grandmother. Excelente!
This is one of those restaurants where the waiter greats you, takes your order and then the bus or staff people do the rest. Those guys were great...but in a small restaurant like this, it would be nice if the waiter checked in on you periodically, instead of just leaving it to the other staff. I know they utilize this technique in large, bustling restaurants...but in this small setting, it seems a little impersonal. The food is fantastic though!
Always a lovely experience!
Amazing food! 7 out of 8 of us literally cleaned our plates, and the one who didn’t, cleaned her plate the previous course. Most reviews pretty accurate, amazing food, not cheap, not ridiculously large portions. Staff was excellent! My first review of any restaurant ever, so it definitely made an impression on me.
Highly overrated for sitting in the parking lot shared with a liquor store. The meal was average in comparison to other more notable Italian restaurants in the area. Corkage was $40 per bottle which is way over the caliber of this restaurant (should be about $20). All in all, I won’t be racing back to this restaurant
Over priced , terrible food. This spot is tired and takes advantage of a local clientele with few options
Food and Service were outstanding. This was our first time and were blown away by the cuisine and service from staff. It's hard to impress the group we were with and this place wonderfully exceeded all our expectations. True Italian cuisine that tasted like an Italian grandmother made it.. felt like we were in someone's home. We will certainly return the next time we are in Santa Monica!
Lovely service and delicious true Italian food. We felt like we were not in LA, even though patio abuts the parking lot. Neighborhood gem, will definitely become regulars.
This is our favorite Italian restaurant in Los Angeles
Haven’t been here for many years and ignored the many bad reviews warning about small portion sizes and overpricing. But those warnings were accurate.
Anniversary dinner planned in the private room
Service great planning easy room is nice and quiet
Thanks for a great celebration of 61 years!!!!
Very disappointing. There were 5 of us. Two got different types of risottos which were not well cooked and frankly tasteless. Two others had the carbonara pasta which were meh. The last one had a sea food pasta and was happy with it.. As far as service the waiter was nice but they were very bad at making sure that we had water in our glasses, or cutlery, bread... Not very professional. We waited for our food quite a bit as well. At least they did not rush us when we got it...Overall really not worth it.
We thought the bread was bland and without taste. We would have preferred a bread with olives.
The broccoli was over cooked. The bream fish was dry.
The pasta with scallops and shrimp sauce was heavier than I expected. I expected the lobster sauce to be lighter tasting.
Delicious Authentic Italian!!! 👌🏼
Really enjoyed our time here. I felt the staff were great, and also natural. The food was excellent and we had some good wine as well. Definitely a good price for what you get.
A true neighborhood restaurant with great service and food.
This is definitely the best Italian on the Westside. The last bite is as good as the first. Beautifully prepared, delightfully presented, and the wait staff so attentive. It's like being in Rome. Highly recommend.
It broke my heart as this was one of my favorite restaurants but it has really gone downhill. What a shame.
Very good food service and vibe. Happy energetic Saturday night crowd but not trendy or stuffy. It’s not often I highlight the broccoli that comes with the veal parm, but it was great.
3 out of 4 food items were not good--didn't eat one of them at all
No questions asked by staff.
Poor staff response to requests.
Will never return
Great neighborhood restaurant. We go all the time!
I normally don’t write bad reviews but the service was beyond ridiculous. They put us in a corner table with 2 other tables blocking us in. We couldn’t move. The server never brought us our drinks. Never checked up on us. Never refilled our water when it was empty throughout the entire dinner and when we asked him. He ignored us and walked away. We had to ask another server for the bill and when we paid, our server came back immediately to pick up the check. Food was good but will not be returning because of the terrible service!!
Great food and service. One of our favorite spots
Very good food high quality and nice options.
friendly staff, and nice setting
Ambiance was nice enough and service was good. The mussels (appetizer) were fishy and the broccoli served with the veal was over cooked. We expected better
Service was poor. Servers seemed unprepared to handle basic food allergy questions, poor listeners.
Good food, small portions
Always a great meal. Love it there. A neighborhood gem!
We were kind of blown away. It's like traveling to Italy. Can't wait to go again.
Was a delightful experience.
We love this place. Great food and great service. Portion size can be small and there could be more moderately priced wines on the wine list.
This is a little Italian jewel. We've been coming here for several years and it never disappoints.
Terrible service. Waited a long time to be seated despite having a reservation. Waited a long time for our server to acknowledge us and bring us water and food. Waited 60 minutes for an appetizer. The whole experience was terrible and the food was mediocre.
Locanda Portofino is a gem on Montana Avenue. Wonderful Italian restaurant! They have an amazing cave and really good wines!
