Locanda Portofino Ratings and Reviews
While we have had many meals and Locanda Portofino and have been back often, this meal was the worst we have had there. The table was not ready at the time of the reservation and we felt they seated a party before us who did not have a reservation and then made us wait although we did. The service was painfully slow. We felt largely ignored. Our wine didn't come until after our food when we reminded them about it. And the food was extremely bland and generic. We didn't even consider staying for dessert because we just wanted to get the check and leave.
Unbelievable experience. We ate out on the patio which had great energy on a beautiful evening. Our waiter, Brune, picked our Italian white wine for us and the evening just took off from their. The fried calamari were lite and very fresh. Caesar seasoned perfectly. I had the pasta special with OSSO Bucco meat balls in a blended sauce. My wife and children had a variety of Tagliatelle pastas. All of the main courses were perfect.
Between the ambience, wait staff and food it would be difficult to have a better dinner experience in the Santa Monica area. Strongly recommend!!!!
This place was awesome and very reasonably priced---the food was terrific and service was impeccable. It was quiet and interior decor was quite relaxing. Best part was the pricing was very reasonable for top notch Italian food. We will definitely be back.
The restaurant is attractive and has a sophisticated clientele. IOur food was very good, but it did take an hour before we were served our main course. Theappetizer salad came promptly but the portion was very small. It's a bit pricey but definitely one of the best Italian restaurants in the area.
As always, the dining at Locanda Portofino was excellent. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The food is incredibly good; beautifully prepared and simply presented- the food is the star. The wine list is varied with unique picks that go well with each dish. The wait staff is the best part and makes for an enjoyable evening.
Stopped by early 6:30 - with reservation and was greeted by name. Food arrived when promised and wine taste before the order -both appreciated. Excellent results in both cases. My wife said her risotto was the best she has ever had. Can't have a better date than that.
We've been going there for many years and they have been slowly self-destructing. Although the food was still very good, there seemed to be an "I don't care" attitude with the entire staff. The restaurant was only half full at 7PM on a Saturday night but it still took them 15 minutes to offer us a glass of water and then another 20 minutes to open the wine!!!! Seemed like they were doing us a favor by allowing us into their restaurant. Probably won't return.
This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in all of Los Angeles! I don't live here anymore so every time I visit I always make sure esto get dinner at Locanda Portofino at least once. The food is top quality, prepared perfectly. And the waitstaff is excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. Plus they remember you after just a visit or two. Very welcoming. The sea urchin pasta is my favorite, you won't be disappointed.
I looked forward to a good experience at this inviting restaurant but was disappointed. Our waiter was very nice but he and the rest of the staff seemed to have a tough time staying on top of our needs... water, coffee, and bread refills were hard to come by and always required a request. Forks went missing. No spoon with my spaghetti. Food was generally good with the exception of my wife's risotto. Excellent cappuccinos. Overall, the experience was mediocre at best and there are too many other good alternatives to warrant a return trip.
We went with our family of four. The food was good. At our table we had the swordfish, taglietelle with bolongse sauce and gnocchi. The gnocchi was not our favorite or the best we have had. Portions in general were small but enough food. The servuce was terrible. We waited to order, waited for our food and waited for dessert a very long time. We are not regulars so I am not sure if they favor the locals or if the service is just terrible.
The restaurant did not serve spirits which was most disappointing. The food was passable to fair. Pasta was a little mushy; should have been aldante. Noise level was too much. There was no sound attenuating material on the ceiling or walls. For a small neighborhood restaurant the venue should have been quite with good food. It wasn't.
