Locanda Osteria & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Every time we go, the food is excellent and prepared and served with knowledge and care. the wait staff is friendly but not intrusive and the portions are just right. Not too small to share and not too big to finish and still be able to have a coffee and dessert.
I love everything about Locanda except I always feel there is a reservation waiting on your table and therefore there is a rushed feeling. This is the second time I felt the check was offered without being asked while there was still wine on the table. My bill was nearly 250$ for two people but they had no qualms making me feel like my time was up. The food is savory and requires slow eating. When I looked behind me there were still open tables and I thought they could have given me another half hour. I know this is the sf restaurant circuit but it’s not my first choice for a friend catch-up dinner
My wife and I decided to skip the company's holiday party and go to Locanda. Food and service were amazing. To start we had pork jerky and the burrata w/ Chicories and Buffalo Ricotta, as well as the Pizza Bianca, everything was really good. For the main course we shared the grilled trout, plus the bucatini. The trout although it was the "small size", it was pretty big, delicious, perfect to share.
I loved the service, never we felt that something was missing. Our glasses were always full, dirty plates were removed fast.
We will be back!
Stumbled across this place on OpenTable looking for somewhere to have brunch on a last minute weekend trip up to San Fran. So glad I found out!
The food was incredible, traditional brunch fare, with a bit of an Italian twist. Personally I had the benedict and the pancakes and cleared both plates! The service was impeccable.
One of the best dining experiences I've had in a while, can't wait to come back on our next trip to SF!
Service was enthusiastic & knowledgeable. The food was impeccable. Crab pasta was so flavorful and perfect to share before an entree. My husband had the lamb chops which were tender and perfectly prepared. The cod & mussels were absolutely perfect. The waiter said that the portion sizes were not large but I thought they were generous.
Some people in my party arrived early and checked in before I. I arrived and wanted to tell the hostess that everyone had arrived (most places i know only eat when the entire party is present). Instead of kindly asking us to wait, in a condescending voice she told us she’d “seat us in 5 minutes closer to our reservation.”
Towards the end of the meal, the sever started to clear everyone’s dishes the suddenly gave us our check, while someone was still eating their meal. Didn’t ask if we wanted dessert or more time, and no one in my party asked for the wanted check.
The food was delicious but the lack luster customer service leaves little to be desired
The food is great fresh Italian . We always go for the roman style artichokes.. then the whole fresh fish and perhaps a pasta ( the pasta is tasted but not consistent : way too chewy last time ) salads are a better choice especially now in tomato season ... good bar menu & lucky for us a peach dessert .
The servers are fun and professional and early eating is more fun in this neighborhood !
I brought a friend to Locanda who has a lot of serious allergies and was visiting from out of town. Our server was outstanding in being patient with my guest, and also triple checking with the kitchen on anything she was interested in eating. The staff did a great job to accommodate the allergies, and still be incredibly hospitable and welcoming. The only slight mis-step might be that I had called a day ahead to give the allergies to the restaurant, and they were put into my open table notes, but the message never seemed to get delivered to the server before she took our order. Nevertheless, she handled it like a true pro and we had an awesome brunch!
Some of the food was great, like the Jewish Artichoke. Other things, like my lamb chops, were not. Both chops were extremely fatty and one of them was raw. I picked over the raw one until I could get the server's attention - he took the plate, had the bone cooked, not the meat, and had the bone delivered back to the table.
Service is not good. We waited 30 minutes for our reserved table because they didn't want to ask the table that had already paid the check if they were ready to leave. But they grabbed our plates while we were still finishing eating and plopped down the check without even asking if we wanted anything else. Won't be back there.
Every dish we tried was delicious. In fact, we couldn't decide on a favorite. Our server made excellent recommendations for both food and wine, and she was very knowledgeable about every item on the menu. The only down side for us was that tables are a bit cramped and closely spaced, but now we know to specify seating in the future.
This restaurant is outstanding. We arrived on time for our 5:30 reservation and were seated immediately. Within 10 minutes, the restaurant and bar were full. Our server (Kaitlin) guided us through the menu and wine, making excellent recommendations. My husband had the Rigatoni Alla Carbonara and I had the Bellwether Crescenza Tortelli. The pasta was phenomenal in both dishes, cooked to perfection. My Tortelli, with black trumpet mushrooms, pine nuts and mint was perfectly balanced and excellent. My husband's rigatoni was so good I thought he was going to eat the bowl - just the right amount of creamy with outstanding flavor. And the best part for me was when Kaitlin let me know I could have a half-order, since I don't eat a lot!! Excellent food, service, and ambiance!!
I've dined at Locanda twice now, with a friend and alone. First off, the service is great. When I was dining with a friend, the servers weren't pushy or rushed us and provided prompt service. At the bar alone, the bartender was affable, considerate, and prompt.
The pasta is good/great. I believe they specialize in Roman-style cuisine. For ~$20 you get probably 2-3 servings of pasta, enough to whet your appetite before the main entree. For a person a pasta and an entree will leave you satisfied, or you could share an entree too. Entrees are reasonably priced and delicious. However I wasn't too fond of the bavette steak. It had strong charred beefy flavors and a bitter jus. The saltimboca, on the other hand, was perfectly cooked, succulent, and came with a nice salad.
If you see a hazelnut semifreddo dessert, get it! It was great, but on my 2nd time dining I opted for the dark chocolate budino with bergamot ice cream and crumbles. It was rich and chocolately, but the budino was pretty light textured so it didn't feel as bad. Not as good as the hazelnut semifreddo though!
Definitely would recommend for a casual dining experience. Wines by the bottle are 20% off on Sundays!
