Locanda Osteria & Bar
I have been to this restaurant 5 times and it has always been outstanding
I looked up several italian restaurants in San Francisco (there are lots) and settled on Locanda because of the pasta dishes they had on the menu. Everything was delicious and we'll be back next time we're in town!
This is one of the best restaurants in San Francisco, hands down.
Great food, great service and ambiance. Really enjoyed our dinner for two. A little pricey but that’s San Francisco these days.
Good meal but a little out of the way. Not sure I’d rank as one of the best restaurants in San Fran but the fish was outstanding.
The pasta is quite good as are the cocktails. The first time I dined here, the service was excellent. However, each time since, I’ve noticed a steady decline in how friendly the servers are. I feel as though I’m a nuisance when I dine here. I have a dairy allergy that sometimes feels like no big deal and other times feels like the end of the world depending on what server I have. Additionally, I’ve eaten here several times and each time I’m told that different dishes can be made dairy free, while the menu items haven’t changed. One time only the bucatini could be made dairy free, while the last time it certainly could not be. Not sure what to make of that. This may have been my last visit given the many other options available in the city.
Delicious Mission area Italian food. Highlights were the whole fish (aqua pazza style with white wine, tomatoes, olives and capers) and pastas. Lowlights were the coppa (teensy portion - especially for sharing) and the fromaggi dessert plate with one unidentified cheese and a persimmon "paste" that looked like, well, I won't say. Service felt a little "off" in that our drinks were slow to arrive, food was much too quick to arrive (seeming to rush us out the door). We wish our waiter had guided us better through the menu for sharing with 4 people (see, 4 paper-thin slices of coppa and persimmon for $15).
I usually have a great experience and table at Locanda. We were seated at an awkward space near the entrance to the kitchen and bathroom. There shouldn’t be a table in this spot. Ruined what would have been an otherwise good dinner.
Pasta dish was extremely salty and service was good when the waiter was around, they just seemed distracted and difficult to track down
I was really looking forward to this restaurant. The dining room has a nice vibe. I was disappointed in my pasta dish. The pasta was overcooked and the sauce a bit pedestrian. The service was pleasant but harried.
Excellent food & wine. Great bread Nice vibe-fun place.
This is the second time I've been to Locanda. The first time was the week they opened and the second time was Saturday. I think the food is excellent, but the service both times was just "ok." It took a long time to get a waiter to come over, about 30 minutes more to get a drink, and then after we got our bill we were really "encouraged" to leave quickly. Which I thought was interesting considering how slow everything else was.
Incredible!! I’ve been to most of the top 100 SF restaurants rated by Bauer and this place is beyond amazing and rivals the best!! Will definitely be my go to restaurant!
Had to wait 30 min after reservation time to be seated.
Always great service, outstanding. Food was terrific - love the fish and the dessert especially. The pasta and apps were also superb. One of the best spots in the Mission.
Neighborhood fave. Food and ambience always good. Love the fresh, local flavor. Note that the noice level seems louder than it used to be.
The olive fries are so delicious and the pasta with mushrooms!
This was the best service I have experienced in San Francisco thus far. The food was also phenomenal. I had the cacio e pepe, a traditional Roman dish. It tasted as good as if not better than when I've had this dish many times in Rome. Extensive wine list including a number of Italian and French wines. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for high-quality food in the city with exceptional service.
Food was ok. Just ok
We tried Locanda for the first time, and we were surprised by our wonderful experience. We're definitely returning!
About as good as it gets. Great food, great service and a wonderful ambiance.
Best anniversary date spot ever
Wonderful food and wonderful service. But, the music was way too loud. Nobody wants to hear that stuff , played that loud and especially at 6pm. Thankfully the food server turned the volume down at our request. But, it was very inappropriate to subject us and everyone else to the onslaught of noise.
Good food, nice atmosphere
Locanda isn't the same since the new chef came. I have tapered off going since they continued to serve pasta at $25 a plate when any mildly competent home cook watching Lidia Bastianich on PBS can turn out something just as good or better. It's a shame that the portions used to be a good size and had nice pieces of protein and now it's just a sliver of meat and a plate of pasta still leaves you starving.
We came for the wine paring, but that was an experience I won't repeat. We were seated next to the door with the window open and the wind was howling through the window. We were reseated after we complained and asked to be moved. The amuse came out and we almost finished it but the wine was no where to be found. Fortunately I held off. Finally the wine server had said oh good you still have one, because this wine is supposed to go with that. I suspected as much. Second course was ok, but the third course risotto sat cold while again I waited for wine. It seemed like there was a real problem between front and back of the house in terms of timing.
The fourth course of duck was not good. It came out cold and we had to ask them to send it back and heat it up. The grapes had seeds which made them unpleasant to eat. The puree was the best thing on the menu but there wasn't hardly enough. The duck was chewy, under-seasoned and took all my force to cut through the skin.
Dessert was fine but not the one I ordered. It seemed like with all the problems with the wine indicated that they didn't do these parings well or that often. The wine was unremarkable and seemed more like counterpoint rather than pairing staking out a stark contrast to what was on the plate.
Music was an issue. When we entered it was pleasant but by the time we left it was full on night-club-loud.
The highlight was our server who was patient even though we had to chat with her a lot.
Winemaker's dinner - food and wines were well paired. Service was excellent. Food was delicious. As we know the winery, we were pleased to experience their wines again in this country, without having to get on an airplane.
Waiter had cologne on that was so strong and smelled. He messed up our drinks order twice. The timing was off, food came no drinks, food was ok skimpy portions skimpy on adding ingredient like sausage. Cheese plate piece of cheese so small. Person from street not a customer, came into restaurant up to me from behind while we where eating asking for money very aggressively. It surprised me. He then went to other tables doing the same thing. Waiter said reason everything was late or not correct timing was because there new computer system. It is expensive which if fine if you get good service great food in a safe environment. We didn’t get any of that .
Expectations exceeded at all levels! Pastas were as good as you get in Italy. Best tomato salad of the season. Great time
Locanda never disappoints. Service is above and beyond. Food is sublime. I would eat here every week if I could afford it.
We had an amazing night: food, ambiance and especially the service! Thank you. We will be back.
Superior pasta dishes. Carlos was an outstanding waiter. Only complaint is excessive noise.
My usual "go to" place in the Mission. Food is always consistently good, and so is the service. Usually order their whole fish special, a few bites and cocktails. Always good.
With so many great restaurants in the Mission, this was our first time coming to Locanda. The dishes were interesting and tasty. The service was good, but they definitely seemed a bit stretched as we had to wait a while between ordering and receiving drinks and dishes. But generally good and would return.
We had three different pastas and all three were delicious. My husband had the Bavette steak and it was perfection—flavorful and cooked perfectly. And don’t forget to order the fried olives...they are addictive!
Had a wonderful birthday celebration here. Everyone in our party had a blast with great food suggestions from the GM and our waitress to pair with some special bottles of Barolo and Amorone we brought along for the occasion. Standouts were the Duck and Jewish Style Artichokes. All the dishes had a beautiful presentation. Can’t wait to return soon!
Delicious food. Had whole fish Aqua Pazzo.Divine. Will go back when next in San Fran in a few months.
Amazing food with an ever changing menu. Pasta never disappoints. Service is always above and beyond - surprising and delighting. Great seat in the back with all around good vibes
Great service. Food was overly salted.
