Unfortunately with restaurants limited to number of people allowed, much nicer seating area in main dining area was closed off. However food, service and excellent cocktail ensured a future visit when things go back to normal.
Locanda is always outstanding - wines and pastas to die for:-).
Excellent food, great service with a quaint neighborhood vibe. Definitely a do-over.
Celebrating my pregnancy
Go for the appetizers and the pastas. Table service and wine service were first rate.
Enjoyed everything, but my cacio e pepe is better. Only place in SF to get authentic Roman pizza bianca.
Always a favorite - consistently great food and service, good cocktails. Have never brought someone here and had them disappointed - never. And when dinner is done you walk out to a vibrant neighborhood with multiple options for an after dinner drink.
We have been to Locada many times. It's always very delicious. It was a disappointment that the jewish artichoke was not available this visit but I understand that is isn't currently in season. Something to note. I have had the bucatini on many occasions. I found approximately 3 small pieces of guanciale in it - that's rather sad isn't it. I still loved what I but I felt I was "skimped" on by the chef.
I had seen this place on “Check Please” where they gave it rave reviews. Couldn’t wait to try it. Just to cut to the chase: I rarely if ever complain about portion size because often enough a smaller portion is adequate. Especially if it’s great food. I ordered a favorite of mine, Linguini and clams. It was a (too) small portion and nothing special in flavor. Price ($24) was not unreasonable for this dish at a trendy restaurant. And Locanda has a good vibe.. But it was ultimately disappointing because of the big buildup, a mediocre dish and too little on the plate.
Great vibe, excellent service and great food. Small portions and for the 4 of us, we ordered 3 appetizers, 3 pasta dishes, a Bavarian steak dish, a side veggie dish and 2 desserts to share, and most felt we could have eaten more. Would have been 5 stars if the pasta dishes were done right. While I like my pasta al dente, it was still hard in the middle for the carbonara and crab pasta dishes. Taste was right on point though. The speciality dish of uni spaghettini however, turned out to be too citrusy. Did not taste the uni. Finally, one of the wait staff removed one of our dishes that was not entirely eaten without asking. Otherwise, a fun night out at a great restaurant with fantastic service.
The food was delicious!
I couldn't have been more delighted.
Service felt a little rushed like they were trying to turn the table over. Also servers interrupted often... collecting plates, putting down silverware , food & often interrupting conversation.
Side dishes & appetizers were quite good. Main pasta course was good but not terribly memorable.
Derrick is the best bartender!! Made reservations for Saturday night at 5:30 pm (they give you the option to sit at the bar or table), for the bar cuz I feel like it's more fun to sit there. Ordered a flight of old-fashioned (the reason why we came to begin with), order a crispy pork belly app, the bavette steak, and orrechiette pasta. The food was so good, perfect temp and seasoning on the steak, the greens were dressed really nicely. The pasta was amazing, I'm not a fan of capers, but in this dish, I couldn't even tell. I inhaled my pasta. We were stuff and wasn't going to get dessert. Left to use the restroom and when we came back, there was a couple of old-fashioned waiting, the bartender said he "messed" on something and gave us the drinks on house. We were like really? What did he messed up on, everything was great. Next thing we know, we were given dessert spoons, and the bartender said "No one comes to my bar without getting dessert." Got the strawberry kiwi ice cream, it was sweet and sour, you can really taste the kiwi. Best service hands down, still don't know what he "messed up" on. Would definitely come back any day, especially to try more food as there were plenty more to be had. Derrick is the best bartender!!
The food and atmosphere is very good and the service was great.
First time at Locanda. We enjoyed the meal, had very good service, and overall I highly recommend. There were only two of us and the table was small, but otherwise well done!
Great food, and great service! Rovi is a fantastic - was lucky enough to have her twice in a row and she made the experience both times.
We went to Locanda for Valentines dinner. It’s a relatively small place and the tables are closed to each other and you can hear your neighbors conversation. I wouldn’t recommend this place for special events. Now with that said, the food and service was phenomenal. We started out with fried olives, a must have. Cheesy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Followed by diver scallops, tiny sweet with a Dijon wine sauce that perfectly. Then the finally was the grilled whole seabass with crab pasta. The fish was so tender with a slight hint os smoke. The dish was just as good as the fish platter we had in Venice. And the crab pasta paired perfectly. I would say go on a weekday.
I dont know if it was because we were six but service was not good at all. Some pastas came very fast the others arrived when I was done with mine.
Drinks... the started arriving when the first pastas did and after a while a beer and an apeorl appeared kindnof a dessert. Portions are too small for pasta. Fried Olives were deelicious!
They sent comolimemtary desserts for the delays etc they were ol
Arugula on steak dish was spoiled. Server was amazing though!
We love the staff and the food At Locanda
My gf and I made reservations and upon arriving we saw that 2 people at the window booth seat were leaving. We asked if we could sit there, but the hostess said it was unavailable because "someone had reserved it." It was pretty obvious that no one had reserved the table as it sat empty throughout our entire meal. But, I'm glad that the straight, white couple that came in after us, who were seated at a regular table (not the window booth) were re-seated to the window booth. At least someone got to enjoy it.
Good food good service fun spot a bit too loud and lacks ambience
Wanted to like Locanda as an alternative to tried and true Italian restaurants in North Beach, but everything was just "OK" and nothing special. The orecchiette with sausage was a bit salty too, the grilled rockfish was just good but not spectacular and not enough to share as an entree, and had no accompaniment aside from some radishes. We ordered the "Pizza Bianca" as one of two appetizers and it wasn't pizza at all but basically bread, or to be generous, nearly a foccacia but not quite as good. The fried olives were interesting though. My father-in-law who likes classic martinis served in classic martini glasses, was really put off by the "mini" rounded glasses his martini was served in and felt that these were not a good value for $11 each. WIth all the good options, we will likely go elsewhere in the future.
It was great and our server was awesome.
Food was delicious! Ambiance was beautiful! Waiter & hostess were very friendly. Can't wait to go back!
I am going to miss th
They make some of the best fresh pasta in SF.
First time and not the last. I can’t believe I have not been eating here for the past 9 years. An excellent alternative (and maybe even better) to delicious Delfina.
great food and service. My only issue is that they could work a bit to reduce the noise level. It was 85 decibels consistently.
Citrus salad and pasta were nice. Fish was ok. Very noisy and the open kitchen causes smells to distribute throughout the restaurant.
Great in all respects
Very loud drunk guests sitting next to us were a distraction , but otherwise, an enjoyable meal.
Locanda is reliably excellent and a go to place for Roman Italian cuisine. Have been going for many years and the team has kept standards and quality high. Olives, fritto misto proscuto and carbonara and grilled whole cod - amazing meal.
This is authentic Italian food at its best.
I never been disappointed by dining at Locanda!
The service is great; our waiter explained well every dish. Every dish was very tasty.
Such a disappointment. We came for a special paella dinner. Paella was overcooked and made with the wrong kind of rice. Greens on the side were oversalted. Salt cod tortilla was inedibly salty. (I know...salt cod is salty but it's not TOO salty if soaked properly.) Just seemed like this meal was not made with care.
Food and our server were great!
Of course this is an Italian restaurant but I went there for a special Spanish paella menu served with flights of Golden State cider. I have to say the Spanish food was better than any Spanish food I've ever had at a Spanish restaurant. But go there anyway for the Italian food and I'm sure you'll be delighted
Went to the paella dinner with ciders on Monday. The menu was fabulous - from the fried onion appetizer, chicory salad with a slice of salt cod tortilla and the sublime paella with clams, chorizo and a bit of spice. I hope it is added to their menu as it was THAT good.
The service is beyond the number of stars offered!! Just the right amount of attention and everyone is so engaging you feel so delighted you ate there!❤️
Date night with my partner who was craving the flavors of Italian cuisine from our recent trip to Italy. Locanda came through with providing authentic and creative Italian cuisine. We will return to try more of their delicious menu items. The service was exceptional as well. My partner had a hard time hearing me across the table for two, but I had no problem hearing him and I usually am the one that has a hard time hearing in public spaces. Other than that I have no complaints.
Great food, but I only recommend this restaurant for weeknights.
It was really uncomfortably loud and crowded for a date night on Saturday. The servers had to maneuver really carefully and say “pardon my reach” constantly to work their tables. The line of couples’s tables we were in had maybe 12 inches between each other.
The host didn’t do Paris-style seating — where they move the table so you can gracefully get in and out of your seat. If you’re not a size 4 or smaller, getting to your seat could be embarrassing.
