Locanda del Lago Ratings and Reviews
It was our friend's birthday and my wife and I decided to take him to an Italian restaurant the three of us had been wanting to try. All the food was very good. I must especially mention the burrata that is homemade -- may be the best I have ever had. The birthday boy and I both ordered Osso Buco with saffron rice. Very good! The service was warm and personable and the atmosphere was soft and welcoming. All in all, a delightful evening.
Everything was great except the server that served us deliberately did not tell me that the gratuity was included for the dine LA course, and I realized I tipped almost 45% of the actual bill... Lol would have been nice to have been told that part. Felt ripped off! Other than that great food!
Tried the monthly last Thursday of the month whole animal meal. This month it was salmon. All four courses were outstanding and the matching wines were great. We have also come here for regular night dinners. Always outstanding. So happy to have this gem here for locals.
Our server was less than attentive. He was one of those waiters that does not write down the order. Because of this, he repeated it back incorrectly several times. 3 of 4 of our meals arrived and were served incorrectly. The 4th meal arrived over 5 minutes later. Cocktails were expensive. There is an extensive and expensive wine list with few options for a lower priced glass of wine. The food was solid, but nothing very special. We voiced our concern over our waiter not checking in with us and just overall poor service. He seemed to already know this. He was thankful for our feedback and asked us to give the restaurant another chance. With so many other choices on the 3rd St Promenade, that is highly unlikely we would go back.
Although our server was attentive and sympathetic she could not make up for the overall poor dining experience. One of the entrees had to besent back twice because it was cold. The interminable wait between returns if the entree meant that one of our party was finally eating his entree long after everyone else had finished. Awkward. The complimentary tiramisu was inadequate to assuage the disappointing experience.
Locanda Del lago has been our favorite place in Santa Monica for years. This visit was not up to its usual . The service was a little off. The food, while good, was also a little off. We will give it another shot in June when we are back in LA again. Let's hope this was an anomaly.
The ambiance was very enjoyable. The menu selection was good but not overly impressive. Our waiter was very slow and inattentive. We waited a very long time for drinks and the wait time in between courses was way too long as well. The waiter never came back to our table to check on us to see if we needed anything. It was a $300+ meal for four people. For that much money, the food should have been amazing and the service should have been stellar. We eat out quite often and have had much better food and definitely better service for a lot less money. Maybe we were there on an "off" night but there are too many other restaurants to try before we would go back again. It was disappointing.
We have been eating here for years and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful and attentive. They have an extensive wine list and a full bar. Our friend who was with us said it was the best martini he had ever had. The best part is that the restaurant is right on the Promenade and has not succumbed to commercialism. It still has a family feel to it.
The food was excellent. The 2 of us ordered couple of appetizers off the happy hour menu (which surprisingly was available in the main dining room), plus a regular menu entree to share. The waiter took our order with a great smile, and checked in with us with the appropriate frequency and friendliness. The bill ended up nearing $100 including 4 drinks off, so it was pretty good for Santa Monica foodie experience.
Our Christmas dinner was a complete disaster!!! The wait was about 1 hour before the waiter took are orders... 1 hour more before the food arrived! All our entrees were cold and I had to return mine (I hate a cold salmon that is supposed to be hot). Nothing was ready on the table for us : salt, pepper, bread and butter. The menu was impossible to read : the different pages were all mixed up and it was difficult to understand the explanations of our server. Speaking of our server, he did his best running all over the tables. It was not his fault, you should hire more servers, cooks and boss boys!!! I would appreciate it if you could offer me 2 lunches or dinners for my husband and I to compensate us for this awful Christmas dinner. Who knows, this time we might be more satisfied and we will try to forget our bad experience. Thank you in advance for your understanding and help. Sylvie
We had a reservation at 8:15. The table wasn't ready, so we waited at the bar. The bartender ignored us, after I bugged the hostess, we were seated at a table. It was drafty. We were finally seated at the table they'd promised us. But 30 minutes later. I used to love Lago. Now? Not so much.
We thought the food was good but the portions seemed meager. Not what we recalled from previous visits. We had Blackboard Eats and wondered if that program affected the size of the portions. The room is comfortable, the view of passerby on the Promenade is fun, the service was excellent, and the location is great. But something was missing this time.............
We met friends for dinner on a Saturday night. I was embarrassed. The waiter couldn't have cared less. With the exeption of the Frito Misto, which was surprisingly excellent, the food was 100% mediocre" Italian". We could have been at an "Italian" resturant in a mall anywhere. My husband sent back his chicken , which was both dry and rubbery at the same time. It took way too long for his replacement Pasta Bolenase to arrive, And when it did it was also dried out . Both my girl friend and I were happy with the white fish. Her husband on the other hand was horrified by his risotto with wild mushrooms . It was a wet mess. Luckily we all had a decent Pinot Grigio that helped to soften the edges when he overpriced bill arrived.
