Locanda del Lago Ratings and Reviews
Authentic Italian, fresh farm-to-table, delicious on the Third Street Promenade!
Whitefish is crispy outside, moist and delicious inside
Osso bucco: most flavorful we’ve had and not too salty
You have to have the Burrata cheese which they make fresh in the restaurant every other day. You can tell it’s fresh!
Ask for Vincenzo, he’ll take good care of you!
We happened to be there Christmas evening so it was crazy busy. We ordered the salmon and sea bass. Both were cooked well but a little plain. Could use some more seasoning. Their bread and tempanade are very good. I’ve eaten here a number of times and I’ve found the food to be average but the service and ambiance is nice.
My family had a wonderful experience and delicious dinner on Christmas Day. The filet was prepared perfectly as was the Scottish salmon, Vitello tonato and seafood risotto. The service was polite and attentive. It couldn’t have been a better holiday dinner.
We took a family group of six people on Christmas Day and had an outstanding dinner with excellent service. We tried a variety of dishes, including vegetarian options, and all were very flavorful. The staff made some great recommendations and helped to give us a wonderful holiday experience.
The food was very good. The service was terrible. When we arrived at 12 noon on Christmas Day, there was only one other table occupied. The rest of the restaurant was empty. Instead of greeting us warmly, our server, who was at the front desk when we arrived, looked annoyed at having to seat us in her section. This poor attitude continued throughout the entire meal. Sarah was stressed, disorganized, and cranky the whole time we were there. She spent 99% of her time on the computer, and not once did she come over to check on our table. I had to ask 3 times for someone to bring my glass of wine. My entrée took much longer. We arrived at 12 noon, my entrée, the sea bass, finally arrived at 1:30pm. I asked about it with 4 different employees, and Sarah chose to argue with me that, "every kitchen is different", and a "multi-course meal comes in order of the courses". As a server myself for nine years with Hilton Hotels, I am quite aware the order that courses come in ! She also argued that it was the food runners fault, and the kitchens fault. She blamed everyone but herself, UNTIL we got the manager involved. Only then did her attitude suddenly change and she apologized for the first time, after 1 1/2 hours. The manager, Leno, was excellent. He apologized and brought us a complimentary dessert, which was nice. However, had he been on top of things, he might have noticed that Sarah spent her entire day on the computer and not serving her guests properly. My two friends got their entrees 1/2 hour before mine, which was wrong. All entrees should be served together. Sarah should have been on top of this. My friends waited to eat until my entrée arrived, so their food was cold.
The table next to ours also waited 1 1/2 hours for their entrees. I observed the other servers who seemed much more interested in giving good service than Sarah. It appeared that she did not want to work on Christmas Day, and took it out on her guests. This makes the restaurant as a whole look bad.
It was our friend's birthday and my wife and I decided to take him to an Italian restaurant the three of us had been wanting to try. All the food was very good. I must especially mention the burrata that is homemade -- may be the best I have ever had. The birthday boy and I both ordered Osso Buco with saffron rice. Very good! The service was warm and personable and the atmosphere was soft and welcoming. All in all, a delightful evening.
Everything was great except the server that served us deliberately did not tell me that the gratuity was included for the dine LA course, and I realized I tipped almost 45% of the actual bill... Lol would have been nice to have been told that part. Felt ripped off! Other than that great food!
Tried the monthly last Thursday of the month whole animal meal. This month it was salmon. All four courses were outstanding and the matching wines were great. We have also come here for regular night dinners. Always outstanding. So happy to have this gem here for locals.
Our server was less than attentive. He was one of those waiters that does not write down the order. Because of this, he repeated it back incorrectly several times. 3 of 4 of our meals arrived and were served incorrectly. The 4th meal arrived over 5 minutes later. Cocktails were expensive. There is an extensive and expensive wine list with few options for a lower priced glass of wine. The food was solid, but nothing very special. We voiced our concern over our waiter not checking in with us and just overall poor service. He seemed to already know this. He was thankful for our feedback and asked us to give the restaurant another chance. With so many other choices on the 3rd St Promenade, that is highly unlikely we would go back.
Although our server was attentive and sympathetic she could not make up for the overall poor dining experience. One of the entrees had to besent back twice because it was cold. The interminable wait between returns if the entree meant that one of our party was finally eating his entree long after everyone else had finished. Awkward. The complimentary tiramisu was inadequate to assuage the disappointing experience.
