Another amazing Sunday Brunch. We both tried the French toast and would order it again. The staff was friendly and more than ready to answer any questions we had. We will be back.

The grouper was life altering!

Awesome! Klaire was our server and she took such good care of us. Was always one step ahead of us. Making great recommendations. Food was spot on. Bison was incredible, cooked perfectly. House made pasta was to die for. Loved it!

Our chicken dish was very dry and not worth the price!

Always a great experience! Brunch is our favorite - but dinner is always great too!

We last ate here the weekend that restaurants in Roanoke were allowed to have dine-in services again, following the coronavirus lockdown. My wife and I love the food and drinks here and we highly recommend you visit! The quality of the food and service is outstanding. My only criticism is that the menu could be broader; there hasn't been enough variation on dishes available on the different occasions that we've visited.

Everything is so fresh and homemade. We have always enjoyed dining her. Service is also very good.

Great experience and we felt the environment was safe and clean with all proper procedures in place during their phase 2 reopening.

This was the first night of them reopening for dining in. The menu was limited but the choices provided something for everyone. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable as always. Can't wait to go back. Local restaurants are the best!

Wait staff is always exceptional. The food is always creative and delicious. This visit was no exception. The complimentary birthday dessert added to the festivities.

The roasted vegetable soup was probably the best soup we have ever had! And the ham and Swiss sandwich was probably the best sandwich we have ever eaten! New favourite place!

Lunch at Local Roots tends to be less crowded than dinner and offers some interesting combinations of mostly locally grown ingredients. The daily soup special with root vegetables this time of year is always yummy as is the flat bread pizza which varies in toppings from day to day but is certainly NOT a typical pizza. Prices are reasonable as portions are generally large ( I brought home half of the flat bread pizza it was so filling) but using mostly local ingredients is not cheap. Burgers are excellent as was the ham and swiss sandwich on brioche with aioli.
Although not a vegetarian restaurant, they will accommodate vegetarian and vegan dinners.

Delicious dinner as usual with fabulous service. Klaire was our server, she was excellent and knowledgeable about the menu, and we appreciate the support from all staff. The brioche bread pudding was so worth saving room. Another successful date night!

Out of town on business with a group of mixed palates so we rolled the dice. Boy, did we win big!! Service was amazing, food was delish and ambiance was sublime. Wine list, beer selection and cocktail program was above par. Because everything is farm to table, the menu changes daily so be sure to look on line in case there are real food issues. It is not an unlimited menu but we all found one or more dishes each. Service team was great; we felt very attended to.

Friendly servers, good food but pacing between courses was way too fast. We were enjoying our charcuterie starter when not half way through the entrees showed up. It was definitely a buzz kill to an enjoyable evening. (Please train wait staff to work with kitchen for the patrons who prefer a more leisurely dining experience)

The kitchen could also use a better ventilation system. Don’t wear anything you don’t want to smell greasy for days. We left wreaking of cooked food - disappointing considering all the high marks given by others.

The scallops were spectacular. The wine selection is very good, especially for by the glass options. The rye rolls were just okay. They seemed like a first attempt to me. We also ordered the pork which was over cooked, even dry.

The desserts are certainly worth coming back for. We had panna cotta that was very well done, and the bread pudding was excellent. The cinnamon ice cream was sublime.

The food is good but overpriced. Quality isn’t cheap necessarily however the story of “fairy tale perfect” farming and food they offer helps justify the markup to the majority of their clientele I imagine. The service was excellent and staff is very polite and enthusiastic. Overall the restaurant is fine but they overprice the food and oversell the perception of the story of their menu ingredients.

Relaxed elegance. No pretensions but a very high standard of execution. Attentive service but not cloying, personable but appropriately reserved. A prix fixe menu that was at times a bit ambitious but excellent overall. A delightful and satisfying meal and dining experience.

Absolutely amazing food, service, and wine. This was our first time here and we will definitely be back regularly.

Once again, Local Roots delivered a great meal and experience. We really enjoy the changes daily in the menu and how well they do with coming up with unique dishes. The desserts are absolutely amazing. Keep it up!

Service was tremendous. Had to wait a few minutes for our table. The one discouraging item, they said we could wait at the bar. Bar was packed. Just stood (kind of in the traffic pattern). Otherwise, Service was great. Food was excellent, good wine selection. Andrea, our wait staff, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Made good recommendations. Timing of meal courses was excellent as well. A Big shout out to Andrea, she was excellent!!

We had no expectations going in but were very pleasantly surprised when we left. The service was great and the food was really good and authentic.

Noise level is uncomfortable. It is difficult to even understand the waitstaff, or have a conversation. Also, dining near the front door is cold and drafty.

The local food was exquisite! The charcuterie offered many flavor palettes including some house made kimchi. The fettuccine and the snapper are highly recommended. The desserts they had to offer had nice flavor balances, however the bread pudding and chocolate cake were not the best desserts there. Overall the experience was nice and I would dine there on a special occasion as the food was pretty pricey.

What a fabulous atmosphere. The food was elegant and delicious. The waiter was very informative about the menu and all the ingredients. I highly recommend Local Roots!

We drive through a couple of times each year and stop in Roanoke specifically so that we can go to this restaurant. Everything is always delicious. The people are nice. The music is good. Even the by-the-glass wines are fantastic! And there’s a Co-op grocery store across the street that’s like a mini Whole Foods, but better. Go! Enjoy!

No wait. As soon as we were seated, we were greeted by our waiter, Abraham, and he introduced our waitress. (Can't remember her name. I think it started with an "A".) They were both excellent! We were served water and given our menus. Soon afterward, we were served a small roll and butter. Abraham was close by to answer any questions we had. After we placed our order, we had a short while to enjoy looking around the restaurant. The food was displayed beautifully on our plates and was a perfect temperature. My husband and I ordered different meals so we could share. When we told our waiter we were going to share, he brought small plates to make sharing easier. The food was absolutely delicious! We couldn't resist ordering a "no flour chocolate cake" with ice cream (which we shared). We loved the intimate feel of the restaurant and felt it was the perfect place to celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary!

Wish we would've come here sooner! Some of the best braised greens I've ever had, perfectly flavored and textured chicken liver mousse, and delicious French toast. Great Birthday Brunch! Can't wait to return with family and friends!

This was our third visit to local roots (every year or two when we pass through Roanoke). The food is excellent, as is the service. My only complaint in an otherwise excellent meal was putting grouper at $28 on the “substantial” side of the menu. It was approximately 3 ounces of fish on a bit of rice. And 7 or so baby Brussels sprouts. It took up less than a third of the plate. Whether or not it was worth $28 or not is not the issue. I was hungry, and I was expecting a “substantial” meal and received “modest”. Maybe they could have increased the rice, and made it more of a meal. In contrast to your friend’s “substantial” pork, the entire dish was maybe 1/3 the amount of food. Fortunately, my wife could not eat all of her “modest” mussels. Why didn’t I say something? Politeness and not wanting to ruin the other diners’ meal. That said, everything was delicious, especially the pea hummus. The Carmenere wine was exceptional value. I’ll be back through Roanoke in two years and will try again, but I’ll ask the wait staff about size.

Love this restaurant! Food is always great. Sometimes feel a little crowded with how close the tables are, but that’s not something that has ever kept us away!

What a delightful New Year’s Eve price fixe menu and wine pairing! The food was delicious and innovative. There was something for everyone. Our waitress, Beth was friendly and helpful as was the rest of the staff. The wine pairings were great, and they offer some unique cocktails as well. The dining room is a bit loud for conversations when busy. This was not our first visit and won’t be our last! It’s a place to go for consistently good food and service.

I had left very positive reviews on previous occasions and my opinion has not changed. Excellent food
and outstanding service once again. It is our favorite restaurant in the Roanoke Valley. Would recommend to anyone who loves good food and wine. See you again soon
