Overall restaurant, food, and service were good. Disappointed that their open table menu had vegan tofu scramble. Called the restaurant to confirm and they don’t do that anymore but, said they would make a note we had a vegan diner and be happy to oblige. Did they? NO. Don’t promise and not deliver.
I would have thought this place had never done brunch service before, but apparently they’ve been doing it for years. First: it’s unclear how to get seated when you walk in. There are stairs, a room to the left, and a large door in the front. Once I went in no one was staffing the host station so I stood around for a while and wondered if the place was even open it was so empty. I was seated but the table was wobbly and it took another 10 minutes to place a drink order and 15 more to get my drink. I ordered a biscuit while I waited for my friend and it came without the honey butter. Also, the menu is much more limited than what you see on Open Table. When my friend arrived his seat was wobbly and it took him another ten minutes to get a drink. They forgot to bring me silverware with my meal and when my friend ordered an additional pancake it took another 20 minutes to get because apparently a large party placed an order first even though the place was mostly empty. They said we would be comped for it and we weren’t and also the open table special was for a free house pastry which we also didn’t get. I see why this place was empty, I won’t be coming back. The people working here were nice but I’ve had better service in an airport Applebee’s.
My girlfriends bday dinner, 6 people total. There could have been 10. Immediately seated. Somewhat busy when we arrived at 8p. Rez was at 830. Hostess was really nice, waiter was nice, a bit slow in the drinks. The food was pretty fast for SF standards. Def would recommend and go again. Really great for groups. Prices were cheaper than thought for 6 people. Very pleased.
The service was quite poor here. The waiter was not very attentive and despite the fact that I ordered a side dish he brought me a main dish version of it. When I pointed out the error he said that he couldn't take it back but he would talk to the chef. He never came back to our table to give an update. I was then charged for the whole main dish. When I asked to only be charged for the side dish that I had originally ordered, and only ate the amount of what the side dish was, he told me that since I had eaten off that plate that I had to be charged the full amount.
The service would have been a 5 if it wasn’t for our waitress who reminded us that the table was needed at 8 even though the hostess and I had a discussion it was at 8:15. She simply stated they may come early

The grumpy hostess sat us on a broken table. To get a non-broken table we had to sit at a communal dining spot, right next to a group of obnoxiously drunk men, even though the restaurant was at 10-15% occupancy the whole time we were there.
The waitress was nice though, and the appetizers and food was good.
I’ve been to Local Kitchen and Wine Merchant several times and love the food! I took two friends who were visiting San Francisco for the first time, so I had to take them to my favorite restaurant and it did not disappoint. The food is very fresh and tasty and the servers are very friendly as well. My favorites are the brick oven pizzas and the tortellini dish. Also, the atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxing to have dinner and catch up with friends.
We had a reservation for 5:30 when they opened for dinner. We were a few minutes early, and could see the servers having a powow in the back, so we sat down just outside. 5:30 came and went and no sign of anyone near the front desk. We didn't actually end up going in until after a few other patrons arrived to go to the bar hidden around the corner.
After the servers realized we were there to be seated, they were attentive. We split a salad, which they offered to split onto two plates for no charge, and then split a pizza. Salad was fine, pizza wasn't the best. The crust was a bit burned on the edge and the pizza itself didn't blow me away.
Eat here all the time...but this wasn't a good night for service...seemed like they were short staffed and our waitress seemed rushed all evening. It was an okay evening, but we've certainly had far better here...everybody is entitled to a slip up now and then but when dinner for four is $230 you expect more...
We have been to the Local many times. We have always had excellent service and very good food. However, the other night that all changed. Our server, Chris H. was more interested in chatting with his friends at the restaurant than taking our order. We had to wait quite awhile for him to finally take our order and when it finally was delivered by someone other than a server, my pizza was luke warm at best. My husband had a burger, which was only so-so. When we wanted to order a second drink, our server was, as usual leaning on a table talking with friends, so we had to order a drink from a kitchen runner. The drink was finally delivered by our server at least 10 minutes later. All of this on a Wednesday evening at 7:30. The restaurant was not empty but neither was it crowded. Overall a disappointing experience. The Local is a convenient dinner spot for us, but we will not be returning for awhile.
Table reserved when we got there...excellent wine list...especially good salad with romaine substituted gladly for kale, which I dislike. Excellent pizza and overall very nice place. We live a half block away and dine here often just the two of us and with friends.
I enjoyed the kale salad with quinoa and tofu, very tasty. My friends ordered pizza, I taste don slice but it was not be my liking. We sat at a long high table, however it was near the speaker playing the music so I heard 80's pop tunes through my meal, with a loud drumbeat. I would return, but sit somewhere else, and order the kale salad again.
The salads were phenomenal! I got the shrimp one and it was great. The wine was outstanding. I didn't eat the pizza but the group said they were really good. One disappointment - on their website they advertise gluten free pizza, but they didn't have any when we got there.
