This is our fav neighborhood spot. Consistently good food, service and value. Very comfortable atmosphere Open kitchen and great wine selection. Happy hour is great, good food and drink prices
Such a great brunch. We had the Singapore Chicken Rice and the Burger. Plus the tequila cocktail and the mezcal cocktail. Chef Nora’s chicken rice was like I was back in Singapore. The burger was perfect and the fries were hearty. The cocktails were tasty and strong. The service, our server Miche, was amazing, friendly, and you could tell he loves the menu and chef Nora. He recommended we go back for dinner and we will definitely do that.
Good pizzas. Fast, friendly service. Not too expensive for San Francisco.
We arrived (3 of us) before noon and the maître d' was on the phone so we waited to be seated... and we waited and waited for at least 10 minutes just standing there waiting for him to finish his call. Nobody else came to seat us. We finally sit down. Two other parties (one of 2 and one of 6) sit down well after us on either side. Their entrees are served and we wait. And wait so long that the couple next to us are almost half done eating. + she ordered the same burger with salad that we did. A pizza was served on the other table. We ask three different servers where are meals are before our 2 burgers and Singapore chicken dish are finally served. Clearly they forgot about our order. Since it was a business meal, did not make a fuss and just paid the bill. Took almost 1-1/2 hrs. I like their food but this is not the first time the wait time to get an entrée served is exceedingly long.
The Singapore chicken was fabulous. It was flavorful, hearty and just the right amount for lunch. Our server was attentive and provided great suggestions for lunch. It had been awhile since I was there and I'll definitely go back again sooner than anticipated!
Waited almost a full hour without getting the entrees during a business meal. Given the timing, I paid the check prior to receiving the food and asked for it to be packed in a box.
Reliable for a good food experience, and occasionally exceptional. It also offers some conveniences: parking is usually good; it is near the Bay Bridge, so when meeting East Bay friends in SF, it offers an easy exit back to the EB. The ambiance is modern yet classic, warm, and personal. This is my uncomplicated choice for a quality neighborhood meal.
Nice cozy and quiet place; not overwhelmingly noisy, like so many other SF restaurants. Great food, great service!
This review is for brunch only - I am a follower of Chef Nora Haron ever since I've sampled her food at now defunct Dripline in Oakland. She combines the best of California with Singaporean cuisine - for example, her chicken rice is not like the chicken rice "Hainan style" - she does not poach her chicken, but flash fry it with no breadding. Chicken is marinated in Koji, and her jasmine rice is spot on delicious and truly authentic. She uses sourdough for waffles and pizza dough, among other dishes she creates - it is extraordinary good, with crunch texture and taste; best use of sourdough! Other dishes - whether she introduces you something from Singapore/Malaysia/UAE - they are crafted with her own uniqueness and delicious. Just don't show up at brunch and ask for stuff not on the menu, like eggs Benedict. If you do, you are at the wrong restaurant. Bring as many friends as you can, and share everything. That is the proper way to enjoy her food and also be a hero for introducing your foodie friends to the magic of Chef Nora.
Great pizza!! The broiled salmon was also outstanding!! Too bad, no bread and butter:((
Great food and ambiance! Love the candle light, it sets a romantic mood.
Very accommodating service and good knowledge of their wines and beer selection
Food was outstanding and tasty
Did not try the pizza but it looked amazing
Came here for a casual dinner with a friend near his place. First, the service was wonderful! I appreciated that Brian regularly checked up on us but did not wait around (as we just wanted to talk to each other). He did stay in our sight line in case we wanted something-great combo.
I had amazing wine (I forget what) and my friend loved his beer. The ambiance was just right.
As for the food, I wish I lived closer! His pizza was so juicy and tasty and my pasta was just the right amount of pasta v sauce.
We didn’t use their private dining areas (for parties) but I could see they were gorgeous!
I will definitely be back!
Very rustic and quaint. Casual and fun. Was perfect for a team dinner.
Our team was in town for the DreamForce conference and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Appetizers were wonderful, Impossible burger was excellent, good wine selection, knowledgeable and attentive wait staff.
Great local joint. I love how the bartender really care about keeping the bar clean and neat.
Food was overpriced and not very good. Service was bad. One server for whole restaurant
There were zero disappointments! The Impossible Burger was amaze!
Great pizza - good size and taste. Good size burger, not too crowded during weekday lunch time.
Great local place and awesome food. My only complaint is that so many of the great savory meals from. Ranch are not available at dinner time. I. Particular,at, the fried chicken sandwich and burger, in my humble opinion, should be available at all times.
Food was decent, but we spent $20 per person on bottomless mimosas but were refused even a single refill because "the restaurant had closed while we were eating our meal." We were not told that there were terms attached to our purchase nor was there a last call for refills at any point in the afternoon. I notice they managed to still bring out the check even after "the restaurant had closed."
Kind of noisy for my taste. Metal high chairs uncomfortable. Waiter seemed too busy but it was Father’s Day. Avocado Toast dish super weird with COLD soft boiled egg. Seemed dangerous. Didn’t like. Everything else was delicious.
Great food, wine and service. My Friend and I, we were visiting San Francisco for the first time and this restaurant make us love the city!
This place is conveniently located to our home so we go quite frequently despite the generally lackluster service, as the food is decent and one of the regular servers is attentive. We've sat at length waiting for our server/drinks/food, and once we were even yelled at to move to a different table by a bus boy adamant that "we were at the wrong table according to opentable," after we had been seated there by the hostess, but again, the food is decent and there is very little else in the neighborhood.
This last time however, we were seated and then completely ignored for over 25 minutes, despite the restaurant being only half full. After several failed attempts at flagging over a waiter, or a bus boy for water, we gave up and left at which point the hostess thanked us for dining with them that evening. Then an hour later I received an email saying that I had never shown up for my reservation. Management should really train up the staff to take notice, especially if someone has made a reservation, showed up to that reservation, and was seated.
Never disappoints. Always new dishes. Great drinks & atmosphere. Been many times with good friends and we leave happy each time (albeit slightly inebriated). P.S. was excited to see the impossible burger on the menu last time.
This was my first visit to Local Kitchen. It is semi-industrial, very modern with a few tables and lots of bar seating. The kitchen is open to the diningroom. The food is excellent, very fresh, lots of vegan options and healthy choices. Prices are very good. The service was very good, attentive but not intrusive. Definitely recommend. Perhaps not great for a business meeting as noise level was high with open ceiling.
Ate brunch here with a couple friends mainly since one of them wanted to try the bottomless mimosa. The drinks were delicious as was the food. I'd recommend the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer. There are some interesting bottomless mimosa flavors (violet being the favorite of the table). The service was wonderful, and I'd highly recommend it for food, atmosphere, and service.
Went during the week for lunch. Food was very average. Service was good, nice ambiance and decor inside, might go back for a glass of wine but not for the food.
Very average. Menu choices haven't changed, and it's challenging to find a choice that has no sugar or grains. Salad greens aren't fresh. Portion sizes and ingredients for the same salad are inconsistent. And prices are very high. The one benefit: 2 blocks from the office.
I had fun with my friends at this hidden-gem of a restaurant and definitely see myself going back. The restaurant space itself is very nice -- industrial-ish with an informal but not-too-casual feel. Drinks were great, food was great, service was nice and we had a good time. There were two vegetarians in the party and they were easily able to accommodate us both with their menu options and any customizations we needed. They also accept Open Table tab, which was convenient since we had to get to a movie shortly after dinner.
Everything was perfect!!! But the tortellini with pork was to die for!!! Amazing!!
Our waiter was wonderful and the atmosphere was enjoyable. It's a great neighborhood spot with the wood burning oven making for a very cozy feel inside. Our appetizer was very late coming out so it ended up being removed from our bill. The pizza was flavorful, but the crust was lacking. The best thing we had was the tortellini with pork- we'd come back just for that! Great selection of wines and beers too.
It was kind of crowded and the service took a long while to take the order.
Love that I can get amazing wines for really reasonable prices. Makes it reasonable to drink good wine on pizza night!
We came here for a short weekend break in SF. Walked over from the Marriott Marquis. We came in early for our reservation and they were able to accommodate us. Although we don't drink wine, we were invited to a wine event which I though was good to tell us. We ordered the Soft Scramble-eggs, roasted mushrooms, crescenza cheese, broccoli rabe, and fingerling potatoes. What a fantastic, hearty, tasty meal! Everything was seasoned well, the potatoes had lots of flavor but were crispy, too. We also ordered the Funghi Pizza-wild and tame mushrooms, no tomato sauce and the cheese was not overwhelming, on a thin crust. Would order the pizza again in a heartbeat. We threw in a cheddar biscuit for good measure-soft, light, crunchy crust and with a bit of honey butter it was outstanding!
The food was great. The pizza was delicious. The appetizers were very good. They had a great hightop area for a large group. Only problem we had was with the service. It was pretty slow and then our waiter disappeared for about 15-20 mins. I think the manager took over our table at some point and her service was quick. The food is great, so it's worth a stop in. Just plan for a longer meal.
Awesome brunch! Very well prepared and delicious food. Everyone in our party was quite pleased! We will be back.
nice place to have a casual dinner, pizza cooked in front of you at the bar
Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. What a little gem!
