L'Oca d'Oro serves modern, light-ish Italian food in a laid-back environment.
The staff is awesome and so knowledgeable about the food and the wine
Thank you Jenna and Eva for a wonderful experience
We’ll be back
Awesome service and spectacular food. Everything is made in house and you can tell. The pasta was some of the best Ive ever had. Also our server was so accommodating to our dietary needs and I love how everything there is either locally sourced or environmentally conscientious.
Wanted to let you know that we chose L'Oco D'oro for our mother's day celebration specifically because they support fair wages and paid sick leave for their workers.
Average food that was not remotely worth the price. Service was poor, requiring a manager needing to resolve a simple issue, and that too after an argument. I regret choosing this place. No wonder that half the tables were empty on a day when they should have been full.
We went there for Mother's Day and it was terrific. Our waiter was attentive and made some great recommendations. She lauded the "made from scratch" discipline of the restaurant and it was apparent when the food came out. Real neighborhood Italian, so good.
The food was FANTASTIC and fresh. Our server was enthusiastic about the dishes, attentive and engaging. We will definitely be back!
Food and service were great. A bit too loud.
Unbelievable cuisine, exceeded all our expectations. The mixed drinks where balanced and the dishes where excellent. After this meal it will be difficult to eat pasta any where else.
We enjoyed our food but the bill was very expensive. We ordered 2 starters and 3 mains between 3 people. One of our starters was a salad which was tasty but tiny. We wanted some bread with our pasta and we had to pay $7 for two pieces of foccacia. I liked the taste of every thing but just couldn't recommend it due to the high prices.
Delicious and different food combinations, attentive and courteous staff. An extremely pleasant and tasty experience! We'll be back.
This is my favorite restaurant in Austin because of the food. The home/handmade pastas are truly the best! The subtle flavors and textures hit exactly the right note each time. The Polpette and a glass of wine are the perfect end of a busy or stressful day!
"Gabagool" brunch sandwich is insanely rewarding -- soft-scrambled egg threaded with shreds of cappicolla, piqued with elusive sweet-sour notes from thinly sliced pickled peppers and piled onto a warm tender-crusted house-made seeded loaf gilded with melted fontina. A lacy little tangle of young greens sits on the side. Perfect proportions of ingredients, deeply satisfying. Eat this!
Well, I was all set to love this place. Good reviews on line and good word of mouth. The experience however was different. The atmosphere was loud and frenetic. Our waitress was constantly on the move. She made it seem as if she had no real time to spend with us. Any indecision about what to order seemed an imposition on her time.
Once we did order, our appetizer took 30 minutes to deliver and was not noticed until I flagged her down. This is a restaurant in which your food is delivered by others, not your wait person. I've seen this work in other places, but not so much here.
The food and drinks were the best part . We had zuchinni fries to start. They were tasty, but soggy. The green been salad was very good. Of the two entrees we ordered, the blue crab pasta was a little too salty, but the lasagna was very good.
We were comped dessert and a glass of wine because of the service problem. A nice touch, but in our minds too little too late.
I think this place has a good heart. A lot of neighborhood folks and kids. If you live in the neighborhood, it would be a good place to walk to and hopefully enjoy, but ultimately the experience trumped the food for us and we probably won't return.
A great authentic Italian restaurant -friendly knowledgable staff. Locally sourced food, fabulous bar and wine, good happy hour. A great neighborhood vibe..and a good neighbor! Loco has it all.
Fantastic, knock your socks off pasta selection. Portions are relatively smaller for the protein but nibble on the starters for a complete experience. Great service and ambiance for a casual get together and great food sourced locally. Wonderful staff.
Excellent all around- service, food, wine and atmosphere.
Visiting Austin I found this restaurant simply via Open Table's nearest option . . . turns out it was a great move. Our experience was absolutely spectacular. The freshness of every ingredient could be tasted, the presentation was simple and elegant. Started with two vegetable plates, a carrot dish and a green bean dish that were delightful. The carbonara after was spot on perfect, the carrot ragu was almost inhaled, probably one of the best Italian vegetarian dishes I've ever eaten. For dessert the tiramisu was spectacular, the olive oil cake delicious and light. On top of this the wait staff were friendly and incredibly prompt, the co-owner friendly and open. I'll be coming back again and again on my future visits to Austin. An absolute gem.
We had a great meal in celebration of a birthday of one of our party. Lovely ambience, great locally sourced and seasonal menu items, and the staff couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful and knowledgeable.
The food was great and the staff was excellent. I had the rigatoni and wife had the tuna. We also got the carrots and focaccia. It was all very good.
Excellent and unique food, outstanding service, gave enticing descriptions of menu items
Food and service were great, but the noise level was so loud that it took away from the whole experience. I went on a Saturday around 7:00pm. Literally nothing in the dining room absorbs any noise so you’ll have to yell across even a tiny two seater table. If they fixed that somehow I’d come back, but the headache and noise and inability to have any sort of conversation ruined it for me.
Spur of the moment to treat ourselves to a great meal - and this venue did not disappoint. Happy Hour prices for some of the food helped as well. Great ambience and the food was exquisite!
It's a great little find that is centrally located near an Alamo, the Thinkery, and a park.
I take people often and they always love it. They have a wonderful policy of adding a 20% gratuity, up front, that is shared by all the people who work there. Makes me happy.
This was a marvelous choice for dinner! There wasn’t a weak link in any of the items we tried
Excellent/creative food; good service and lovely atmosphere. Our server was helpful in selecting the right wines for dinner. We dined in the bar because it is quieter as my sister and BIL were visiting from Denver and we wanted to catch up. Would prefer regular-height table rather than the high top.
We wanted someplace we hadn't been before for our 6 month anniversary and we really enjoyed it. The waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly, the food was fantastic and even one of the owners came around to check on our experience.
Celebrated my birthday and my daughter’s birthday. It was a delightful experience. Our waitress was wonderful, explaining the restaurant’s concept (internal preparation of most of their products to limit environmental impact). She was appropriately attentive and provided helpful suggestions. Our granddaughters enjoyed being able to go into the prep room to receive instruction on making tortellini... by hand. We had a great time and will be back.
Food was tasty & service was good, but was very noisy and a bit expensive
The staff, food and ambiance was awesome! We had family in town and we couldn't have asked for more in terms of service, comfort or cuisine. Top marks for attention to detail: from service, to menus, to wine recommendations. Dinner at L'Oca was one of the best meals and dining experiences I've had in town and in a long time.
Small portions. Focaccia and tap wine were probably my favorite items; the other dishes were fine but nothing stood out. I was told at the time of booking the reservation that we could order a pasta tasting to share for the table, but at dinner, the waiter informed us that EVERYONE had to order the pasta tasting. So we were pretty disappointed about that.
We came here often when it first opened and were delighted with the food and service but the last few times we've gone the food quality has gone downhill, the service has been poor, and if you have any food issues (gluten-free or vegan, specifically) there's little effort made to accommodate. Doubtful we'll be making the drive over there again...too many great options in Austin to give a one-time shining star more than 1-2 free passes before giving up on it altogether.
The food was yummy and the space is beautiful, but service was incredibly slow. We came at a busy time, but we noticed one table having someone stop by 3 different times before we even had a single visit. The server forgot our drinks order and we were charged for the items anyway. It was nearly impossible to get anyone’s attention for assistance. We waited about 15-20min before someone finally noticed us.
Have been here a couple of times and the food is very good. We happened to go on Easter Sunday this time and it was very busy so the service was slower and the food slightly overcooked to some of the parties taste.
Easter brunch with family
Great food and nice atmosphere. Had a delicious Setteporte Etna Rosso wine at a reasonable price. Pasta with pesto was good. The tuna carpaccio was excellent as was the polpette. Grilled focaccia very tasty but should be served with olive oil, not butter. And the $7 for focaccia was excessive. All in all, a good experience.
A fantastic experience! Lived up to every bit of their accolades that has been given to them. Looking forward to coming back again!
Very creative menu and food, and outstanding service! Main dining room can get noisy when busy, but otherwise it's small and comfortable. Tips automatically included, which changes how the waitstaff works with tables. Our main server was wonderful, but everyone else also stops by to help out with anything else along the way .. very cool!
Happy hour in the bar and patio is wonderful deal too!
Had dinner with my wife and friends, food was outstanding, service friendly and informative.
A bit on the noisy side, but overall a great experience. We will be back for more...
As always a wonderful dining experience. We love the continually changing menu. Its apparent they use fresh ingredients and take time in the preparation.
The pasta tasting menu was amazing. Can't wait to return.
Servicers were knowledgable and attentive without being intrusive.
Went to L'Oca d'Oro on a spontaneous date night out. It had such a beautiful atmosphere and decor. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine menu. It made making a decision about the meal so much easier. The meals were delicious, locally sourced, and creatively presented. It was so hard figuring out what to eat because everything sounded fantastic. I highly recommend the tiramisu if you go, because I couldn't see the night ended any other way.
