Wonderful food. Even better than advertised and well worth every penny. The best tiramisu that my fiancée and I have ever had. The service was excellent and was great at giving us recommendations and making sure every item was satisfactory. I would love to come back again.
Cedar, Thank you so much for coming in and reviewing. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed. For the next 6 weeks, most of the menu is available for takeout. Please call with questions. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Still in my top 3 restaurants in Austin.
Thanks so much. We're going to try and keep it that way. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Excellent food flavors, excellent team service the Pasta’s and risotto are excellent. See where I’m going with this. Only wish I had found this restaurant sooner.
Anthony, That is so great to hear. We love how our team works together. Thanks for coming in and for reviewing. For the next 6 weeks, most of the menu is available for takeout. Please call with questions. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Wow. Rarely have we left a restaurant MAD.
Nice venue. Décor was pleasant. Service was a bit over-attentive, yet not engaging.
We chose the Pasta Tasting and to do so, the whole table had to participate. You assume that this rule is because if some members of your table don’t join in, they will be left out of the wonderfulness. By the end of the meal, it was evident that it the opposite. They have trapped ALL of you into the horrible, overpriced experience.
So, here we go: The food was edible, but gross. I am basing this off the fact that we were able to get our meal down, but nothing was good and a lot of it was disappointing. It was a 6-course Pasta Tasting. Every pasta dish was meager and weird. Flavors and composition was over-reaching, not great, but OK. In most of the pasta dishes, the pasta consistency was dense and gummy, as if you ate a clump of noodles that had stuck together. Every course was only a few bites. The meal took 2.5 hours. So you do the math. This was a lot of time drinking water, which was always promptly refilled, and staring at an empty table.
Dessert was a carrot cake for two which must’ve been built by the chef’s 3 year old: small cake, flat-tipped pastry bag of icing, candied pecans jabbed on top. Oh! It’s your birthday, let us jam and light a candle into your cake AFTER you have started eating it! (The only real failure in the service.)
We sat next to a window to the kitchen and could see that other entrees were appealing and abundant. We were sat there to torture us, I’m sure. The ride home was filled with hungry and angry silence, coated in a buttery sauce of disappointment. Thus, if the a la carte dishes on the menu were as yummy as they looked, we will never know. We will not go back.
The worst part of this is that we didn't do anything despite the attentive service you mention. We are always happy to remake dishes that weren't executed properly or replace them if something wasn't to your liking for any reason. We appreciate that you tried the tasting menu which usually gets great responses. I'm going to talk to last night's manager tonight and will discuss your table and be in touch with you directly. Until then, my apologies for your evening. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Very good food and service, will definitely return.
John, Thank you so much for coming in and reviewing. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed. For the next 6 weeks, most of the menu is available for takeout. Please call with questions. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
I did not regret dining at L'Oca d'Oro but the hype is bigger than it delivers. The main dining room is like being in someone's cordoned off spare room that uses a weird kind of homemade curtain. The chairs are not particularly comfortable--like outdoor furniture inside and the table is small. It felt cramped. From the photos online, it looks like you should choose to sit outside or at the bar. We had the pasta tasting menu, which was interesting. I felt like the first two courses were fine, but the ending 2-3 left me cold. I did not like the long sweet pasta before the final course (carrot cake), which was ample for 2 people and tasty. But it was not what I came for. The final pasta course left me asking: Was it supposed to get me ready for dessert or to fill me up after the 2 TINY pieces of pasta with meat in them that was supposed to be the "main"?--I'd not be complaining if there had been 4 pieces of veal tortellini, but when they say "tasting menu" they really mean ALL you are getting for $10 a course is a taste. Pretty pricey. I'd get rid of the sweetish log after the veal and put in a classic cheese pasta as a cheese course, which makes sense before the carrot cake.
Liz, We appreciate you coming in to try the tasting menu. I'm sorry that we didn't know you weren't thrilled by the last few dishes. We are always happy to remake dishes that weren't executed properly or replace them if something wasn't to your liking for any reason. We hope you'll be back to try the regular menu sitting next to the kitchen on the bar side. Sounds like you may enjoy that menu and experience better, particularly Happy Hour where several small plates and drinks are 50% off.
The food here is really incredible. It’s just like eating in Italy. My only disappointment was that they were out of their house made limoncello!
Very nice anniversary meal with L'Oca d'Oro. Came highly recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed. Every dish is made with love, and absolutely delicious. The complimentary champagne toast to celebrate 11 years was such a sweet surprise. Thank you for a delicious meal and excellent hospitality. We will return.
This is our 3rd time to L'Oca d'Oro. We have enjoyed each of meals, but this one surprised us. My husband and I have been trying to move to a plant-forward diet, minimizing eggs, fish, dairy, and other animal based foods in our day-to-day diet. This was our "weekend splurge." Although, we hadn't planned to avoid "meat" this meal, we found wonderful vegan and vegetarian options on the menus. The carrots were divine and the beet, cashew "pate" was terrific. The only downside was the noise. Both of us are hard of hearing, but the staff even accommodated that. We were at a 2-top and they turned the table sideways so that we could site side-by-side and actually have a conversation and easily share food.
Love the food and restaurant! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We’ll definitely come back.
Thanks so much for coming and for the kind review. We'll look forward to having you back in. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Excellent food, every dish was perfect. The service is also excellent. The portions are small, but in most restaurants they are huge, so it just an adjustment to be served a more appropriate sized portion. One of our favorites!
Thank you so much for coming in. We especially love serving our neighbors. Look forward to having you back in. We can also make sure you have a good idea which dishes are more or less filling next time you come in so your expectations will be met. Take care, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Lovely dinner and conversation with one of the owners, Adam, at the end of the meal. Hearing his passion for his restaurant was inspiring! We will be back soon.
Sandra, Thanks so much. It was also lovely talking to you. Look forward to having you back in. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Quality service with delightful dishes. Appreciated the living wage paid to all employees - it affected our restaurant dining selection for the evening.
And thank you for coming in and reviewing. We appreciate it and look forward to having you back in. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Wonderful food in an intimate setting. I loved the freshly prepared pasta and innovative dishes. Excellent service. It's especially fund to share dishes here. A great night out.
Andrew, Thanks for coming in. I'm so glad you enjoyed and we appreciate the review. Look forward to having you back in. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Always a favorite! Excellent happy hour, excellent food and just the best service
Noelle, That's great to hear. Glad you enjoy and thank you for taking the time to review. See you again soon, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
We just love coming to eat here. The food is delicious and it is a lovely atmosphere with a very knowledgeable wait staff. Perfect for a date night or family dinner.
Frenchy, Thank you. This is great to hear. Look forward to having you in again soon. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
We really loved this place. Only one dish wasn't amazingly good for our taste, we ordered 5 dishes and the other 4 were to die for, we are still talking about it!
Val, I'm thrilled that you enjoyed but please know that, if there's anything that you don't think is prepared correctly or isn't to your liking, we're happy to remake it or bring you something else that you might prefer. Thanks for coming in and for taking the time to review and we will see you again soon. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
The service was great! The food was so delicious. I definitely recommend the lasagna.
Sula, I'm so gald you enjoyed and thank you for the review. Look forward to having you back in to see what will be new on the menu. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Great dinner with great service. The pasta tasting was a delight and I can’t wait to come back and try the a la carte menu.
Dennis, I'm glad you started with the tasting menu. We think that you'll be just as happy with the regular menu. It hits different notes but they should be just as exciting! See you again soon, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Great meal, great service.
Wren, Thank you so much for coming in and reviewing. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed. For the next 6 weeks, most of the menu is available for takeout. Please call with questions. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Excellent service, and excellent food. We never feel pressured. They handle special requests with ease.
Russell, I'm glad we were able to take care of whatever your needs were. That's great to hear. Thank you for coming in and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Only complaint is that I would have actually preferred slightly smaller portions. Otherwise fabulous!
Jordan, That's not one I think I've heard before. I'm so glad you came in and enjoyed. Next time, we'll eat 1/3 of your dinner before we send it to the table. Is that a deal? Thank you for reviewing and look forward to seeing you again soon. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
I was a first time customer on Valentines day, and told there would be a prix-fixe menu so my date and I had to order the same thing and it would be served family style. This turned out to be an excuse to serve one meal to two people and charge them double. It was $100 per person paid in advance (which is very uncommon), and with the suggested wine pairings (not included) it ended up being a $300 meal. The mozzarella was amazing, and the pasta was good, but overall this was nowhere near the value of a $300 meal.
Clayton, I'm glad you enjoyed dinner. We did try and make sure everyone knew what we'd be serving and what the service style would be. We always serve family-style and didn't want folks to be surprised. Since you liked the food, perhaps I'll see you again for Happy Hour when we have a number of half price small plates and drink options. Let me know so I can make sure to thank you for celebrating with us on V Day! Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Yes, it was good but it was tight and there wasn't a ton of food.
Ian, Since it seems like you enjoyed the food, I hope you'll be back to try our regular menu. Maybe at Happy Hour when we have a number of half price small plates and drinks. Meantime, thank you for celebrating with us on Valentine's and we'll see you again. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
The staff was totally amazing and kind and prompt. The decor was fun... for Valentine's Day dinner it was a bit too loud to chat with my partner across the table.
The food however, was not good. There were great attempts at an innovative menu but the execution was not thought out and it seemed like they had not actually eaten the food beforehand. The redfish crudo still had skin and the skin was too tough to eat. There was no sharp knife so you ended up putting it in your mouth and pulling out the skin (like edamame) or trying to pull the fish off the scales with your fork. The squid ink pasta was firmer than al dente (that pasta type requires longer cooking than traditional).
The wine pairings were great and spot on so bravo for those! The pastry at the end, though not adventurous, was good (ricotta, strawberry, chocolate) and the cocktail served with it (coffee liquor, orange twist, gin) was exceptional.
I might try the restaurant again in the future for their nonspecial Valentine's menu to see if they are more delicious on a typical day.
Liz, Thank you for celebrating with us and for this thoughtful review. I hope you'll always let us know in the restaurant when something isn't prepared to your liking or executed properly. We are always happy to remake a dish or bring something else out that might be more to your liking. I look forward to having you back in to try the regular menu and hope you'll say hi so I can put a face to the review. Take care, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Always fresh, innovative, and delicious. Be sure to try the house made liqueurs.
So glad you enjoyed and thanks for celebrating V Day with us. Look forward to having you back in. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Most expensive chickpeas I have ever eaten. Pretty full of themselves charging 100.00 per person for what they served.
Bruce, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the special menu. The ticket did include sales tax and the hospitality charge and we tried to make sure everyone knew the menu and how it would be served before coming in for the holiday. Perhaps we can get you back in to try us again during Happy Hour, when we have a number of half price small plates and drinks. If you'd like to tell me anything more specific about your experience, please email me at adam@locadoroaustin. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
I went to L'Oca d'Oro before and had a good meal the first time. A little pricey, but it seemed fair for the quality, yet this was not the case for Valentine's day, and it ruined my initial impression of the restaurant.
I misunderstood the sharing/family style aspect of the dinner thinking sharing (they only used the word sharing) was synonymous with having. It felt weird to me at the price point to be served in that way ($100 per person tax and gratuity included). With the hospitality and sales tax taken out, I estimated it was around $35.87 a plate (4 plates total). I felt like the portions for two people where relatively small (the same as or slightly larger than a single portion) for the price point except for the cheesecake which was by far the most filling dish. I think given the normal menu it would have been a cheaper and better dining experience based on our initial visit to the restaurant. The fish dish wasn't to either of my gf or my liking. We aren't picky eaters and eat raw fish often. The fish was very tough, overpoweringly fishy, and had skin. I also thought the strawberry flavor didn't mesh well with the fish. I'm very thankful/grateful the extra we got was comped in its place since we both didn't want to eat it despite our appetite. It seemed like the waiter said that's how the dish was, however, but I don't know how someone could stand behind that dish after tasting it. The other dishes tasted very good, but just seemed overpriced compared to what we got quantity wise and there in the past. It definitely makes it hard to us to justify going back.
John, Thank you for coming in and for you detailed feedback. I've responded to you in detail on Yelp where there is not a character limit. Please feel free to respond to me directly if there's anything further you'd like to add. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Service was fantastic, and the wine list was fantastic. Love their dedication to local farms. Unfortunately, the food just didn’t impress us the way other Austin farm to table restaurants have. Flavors were pretty simple and sometimes weak. Nothing was bad exactly, except maybe the cannoli, but the whole experience didn’t feel worth the price point.
Emily, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy what you ordered. We do change the menu frequently so I hope you'll come back and try some new items. Perhaps at Happy Hour when we have several half price small plates. Also, let us know if something is not to your liking, for any reason. We're always able to remake a dish or bring out something else that you might prefer. I appreciate you coming in and hope we have another opportunity to impress you. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
I’ve lived in Austin for a little over a year, and this was my favorite meal so far!! My partner gave it a close second to La Condesa. We both loved everything we ordered! Thanks for a great night!
That is great to hear. Hopefully we'll be number one for both of you after a second visit! Please say hi next time so I can thank you for the kind review. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Such an amazing night! Shared lots of apps and mains. Waiter Dylan was excellent, made good wine selections. I highly recommend the meatballs, carrots, lasagna, and the tiramisu!
That's great to hear, Carly. Look forward to having you back to see what's new on the menu for you to try. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Fabulous food, cocktails, and service! Perfect for date night or casual get togethers.
Thank you, Kelly. I'm glad you enjoyed and appreciate the review. Look forward to having you back in. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
The service is always fantastic, and the menu always has something new and delicious. We had some amazing grilled broccoli when we went last Saturday. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!!
Amanda, Thank you for your support and your kind review. Look forward to having you in again soon. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
Got right in with our reservation. Staff greets you like old friends (okay we have been there quite a bit). They have a sharable plate with broccoli that was amazing. Main entrees were incredibly flavorful as well. We are looking for the return if olive oil cake though.
Expecting traditional Italian menu, but found little recognisable. Ordered lasagna, which looked nothing like lasagna when it arrived. Tasty, but the overall experience was disappointing.
Thanks for coming and giving us a try. It's true that we don't have an Italian-American or regional Italian menu and when there are more common dishes, there is usually a twist that we hope most folks are going to enjoy. I'm glad you liked the lasagna and am sorry we didn't do a better job finding more of what you like to put in front of you. Please let me know if there's anything we could have done differently. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
A friend chose L’Oca d’Oro for her birthday dinner. We were a party of 5. The service was outstanding; very accommodating, attentive but never intrusive. We sampled from the small plates for appetizers (the roasted broccoli was my favorite), and each ordered a pasta entree. We were all pleased with our selections. Our servers were very knowledgeable and helpful with wine recommendations. The meal was paced very well; we didn’t wait long for any course but were never rushed. It was a delicious, relaxed, enjoyable event thanks to the restaurant. I can’t say enough about the wonderful service.
So glad to hear. Thanks for coming in and taking the time to review. Look forward to having you back in, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
One of my favorite spots in Austin, whenever I'm in town I tend to visit. The menu changes very regularly which makes me both happy and sad (oh how I miss their carbonara!) but it ensures that whatever is served on any given night is absolutely fresh and in season. It's a spectacular little place, I was very happy to see it busy as always on a Tuesday night!
So glad you always make time for us, Richard. Thanks for the review and for stopping by when you were in town. Travel safely and we'll see you next time. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
This was our second trip to the restaurant. After really enjoying our pasta mains on our first visit, we decided to try the tasting menu of mostly handmade pastas. It fell flat. Most of the pastas were significantly undercooked and some even seemed like they had been microwaved or reheated. Really weak all around. We may give the restaurant another shot, but we’ll never order the tasting menu again.
I believe this was addressed while you were in the restaurant and we tried to make up for some of the dishes that weren't executed properly but that should never happen in the first place. We are proud of the pasta tasting and wouldn't continue to offer it if this was a typical experience. Thanks for coming in and feel free to write to me personally if there's anything else you'd like to express. We hope to have you back to see what's on the regular menu. Best, Adam Orman, GM/Owner
