What Insiders Are Saying
L'Oca d'Oro serves modern, light-ish Italian food in a laid-back environment.
The food was delicious, the server informed about the menu and the wine list, and the price point was comparatively low for the quality. On balance, we thought the pasta dishes were the strongest.
Great food, and the most knowledgeable waitress we have perhaps ever encountered. She was well versed with the details of the menu as well as wine pairings.
Just a date night for one of our favorite family restaurants. Themis place can do everything because the food is alway impeccable and memorable with great service to match any occasion.
It was good, overall. Strangely enough, the best thing we ate was off-menu! I had the snapper which was fine, not great (probably wouldn’t order it again). We had meatballs and the straciatelli on toast (real yummy). But we were blown away by the simple buttered pappardelle. My daughter needed a simple pasta for her race the next day; the server was very reticent to give us this. Lemme tell you-the homemade noodles were served perfectly al dente with the creamiest, most delicious butter sauce-I will be dreaming about that dish for a long time!
We loved it!! Great food and service.
Delicious food, great service! One of the best dinners out in a long time.
Delicious! We were sat in the bar area so we could enjoy their happy hour specials. A larger party came in about 10-15 minutes after we arrived and the manager politely asked if we would mind moving down a table to make room for the larger party. We absolutely did not mind, but they were polite enough to provide us with an extra app of their broccoli zeppole- so delicious. We also started with the Straciatella Crostini...pecan butter, charred kale, and red onion jam. It was so good, we ordered it again for desert! Their pasta was great and you could really taste the creativity of their plates. The wait staff was great. I love how they automatically include gratuity on their bills so they can pay the waiters a living wage. I love this concept- it reminds me of Europe and maybe more places will start to adapt to this. I’ll definitely be back!
Birthday dinner. We enjoyed our dinner very much. The food was creative and delicious. Service was attendent but not intrusive. Overall, a very nice experience
This place NEVER dissapoints. The food is creative, but still delicious. We did the special Valentines Day menu and every dish was sensational. The ambience is magical. It's a tad pricey. We ended up dropping $250 for the two of us..... for the Valentines Menu (WITHOUT the wine pairings) and 2 drinks per person. BUT, that being said, it's worth it for a special night out. Everything (bread, salami, cheese, liqeurs) are made in house!!!
Food was on point as well as wait staff. I am not sure you can stump them with a food or beverage question.
Delicious fresh food, a new hyper-local and conscious take on Italian traditions!
Very good food and presentation with the food. It does get noisy so it’s hard to have conversations but the food was really good
My first experience was so good while dining with my parents that I took a special gal there three weeks later for a date. The service is impeccable, the food is exceptional, and the overall sense of employee ownership in the dining experience is second to none. Love the team there and being in the hotel business must say I admire everything that they are doing.
Food was great. We made it for happy hour which was nice since they had great specials for drinks and appetizers. All the entree's we had were delicious.
The staff is incredibly friendly at L'Oca d'Oro and were very accommodating when I arrived earlier than my reservation time. The place is very cute and has a bunch of types of seating options. The happy hour menu and prices cannot be beat, and every dish we tried was delicious!
I love everything about L'Oca d'Oro -- the adventurous but grounded menu, the intriguing flavors and presentations, the emphasis on local ingredients (green-pecan nocino!), the vibes, the engaged and upbeat staff, the social consciousness, the delightful owners' enthusiasm and overall vision -- except for the noise level. I do wish something could be done with acoustical treatments to bring it down a bit. I invited foodie friends from Dallas whom I hadn't seen a long while to meet there while they were in Austin, and -- while they loved the food, as I knew they would -- conversation was difficult on a busy Saturday night. The loudness level isn't as cacophonous as you'll find in many trendy Austin spots, thank goodness, but it was still hard to converse.
Third visit. First two great. This time very disorganized service, 2/4 entree below par and a carafe of Cab Franc served from the frig and poor quality. Not a $200 experience.
Amazing food. Amazing beverages. The house-made amaros are FABULOUS. I wish it were a tad quieter. Our waitress was outstanding. She really knew the wine-list inside and out. I highly recommend.
This was our first visit. We were staying downtown and it's about a 10 minute Uber ride out to this neighborhood. We were really pleased with the evening. We had a cocktail, the pasta tasting menu, and wine pairings. It was all very good, paced nicely, and plenty of food for a reasonable price. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We are not locals to Austin, but this area seemed full of bars/restaurants and was pretty walkable as well. This place is a real find if you like pasta/Italian-centric food.
Happy to support a restaurant that backed paid sick leave in Austin, and treats all employees fairly with #onefairwage. But even if that's not your gig, eating incredible, locally sourced food, at a fair price in an unpretentious environment is what Austin should be all about. Love this place.
It was really wonderful! Small plates were perfect, swordfish was wonderful, great wine selection, good staff!
The food was delicious but found that some of the dishes did not have sufficient meat on the plate. The portions of the pasta dishes were generous, but for example the short rib plate my son ordered had three tiny pieces of short rib which was not worth the price
Great food, unique take on Italian. Very accommodating and friendly with my 3-year-old and infant, even had a lot of kids books. Welcoming atmosphere.
L'Oca D'Oro continues to be our go-to for special occasions or when we want to be transported back to Italy. The pasta is always handmade and cooked al dente. Their menu is seasonal so in the winter you see items such as Beet Risotto and other root vege dishes. Prices are reasonable for the handmade quality and innovative menu. Servers and staff obviously are thrilled at working where they each earn a living wage and it shows with the attentive but relaxed service. This is in the Mueller neighborhood and but deserves to be a destination from any part of the Austin metro area.
Loved the HH choices — great bean dip and mozzarella. Love the cab franc. Less impressed with pasta dish — rigatoni I think. Not as flavorful as others I have had. Still good but not magical. Sitting outside on a warm winter night was, however. Thanks!
Amazing pasta, wine, and service!
Authentic Italian food made with seasonal ingredients. Menu changes frequently and is always delicious!
I love this place. It's like our home away from home. The food is so scrumptious and lovingly prepared, and Fiore, Adam and staff always make us feel so welcome. I bring people here for business drinks/dinner as well. Always appropriate.
Always great. We try and go as often as possible. One of my favorites in the city.
The restaurant does indeed use local ingredients, and they’re quite proud of it. The carrots were delicious. They also make almost everything in house and try to use up any waste, which means adding byproducts into dishes that don’t benefit from the flavor. The menu is limited and allergens are not labeled. The dishes alternate between pedestrian and trying-too-hard with no happy middle. There is better avant- garde Italian in Austin.
The noise levels were unbearable, partly due to the shape of the ceiling, and partly due to the server screaming in my ear about the restaurant concept. Service was spotty and generally inattentive.
They also pride themselves on being a fair wage restaurant, which is a major plus, but they do so by adding a mandatory 20% to each check and highlighting it in green, instead of incorporating the difference into the price of the dishes. There is also an additional gratuity line available for those who would like to tip above and beyond the 20%, when the concept of tipping is part of the wage problem to begin with, allowing service industry minimum wage to remain artificially low. They prominently display a card at the host stand explaining their virtuousness. This emphasis on fair wages, though essential to dismantling unfair labor and wage standards rampant in the service industry, is implemented so poorly at L’Oca d’Oro that it might actually prove counter productive. Stop virtue-signaling, raise your menu prices, remove the concept of tipping entirely, and be part of the solution.
First time dining here. Everything was fabulous! Drink and dinner suggestions were spot on. Very attentive and professional staff.
We ate dinner on a Saturday night. At first we were seated right next to a curtain that separated the dining room for a private party. People on the other side of the curtain were literally shouting to one another. We asked to move and were accommodated. It was still loud but not impossible.
The waitstaff was helpful and made suggestions. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 pastas. All of them were tasty but the pastas were nothing special. The Shrimp Bolognese may have had shrimp chopped up in it but it was not overly apparent. The penne was undercooked (very toothsome). For our appetizers, we wanted to sop up the sauce so wanted bread. The only option was to order the grilled focaccia, which was $7. While it was very tasty, only getting two 2.5x2.5 inch cubes seemed expensive and chintzy. We did not get more bread for the pasta sauces.
The restaurant does have a very interesting wine list with many wines at $40 or less.
We both walked out feeling it was a nice dinner but not enough to want to rush back.
Best pasta I’ve ever tried. It’s not your typical Italian restaurant with noodles slathered in marinara, they’re homemade noodles with savory sauces and interesting ingredients. The cocktails were tasty and flavorful. The waitress was friendly and accommodating. I can’t wait to go back!
Amazing place! I love the food and all the shareable meals, plus the drinks are tasty.
Engaging staff w/o being intrusive ... seated at kitchen window ..fun! Food flavorful and healthy. Prompt service of order and additional requests. A pleasant, new (to us) restaurant discovery :)
We had a filling good time on our 6th wedding anniversary. Everyone was hospitable & service was impeccable. We always are looking for an experience that feeds us both satiably, emotionally & intellectually. The pasta tasting was all these things and more. Being in the business I am always critically looking at all that goes on in a restaurant and feel that y’all do an excellent job with lots of amore in the front & back of the house it felt like a seamless operation that we would love to experience again. Bellissimo! Bite your teeth into the a— of life!
Great food and excellent service, with top notch cocktails at happy hour and wonderful desserts.
The food was edgy and extremely well made. The cocktail and wine list were outstanding - including homemade Amari - WOW!!!
