This charming restaurant has it all. It deserves 10 stars!
This was our first experience at Llama and we went to St Augustine for the express purpose of trying it out. My wife noticed a day or two before while on Google looking at the restaurants reviews, that a chef that had recently been there wished he had known about their "13 Course Chef's Dinner". We called the day before our reservation to ask if we could have this "dinner". They called back the day of the reservation and indicated that "yes we could". I'm sure it takes some preparations to put together but we had the "Chef's Dinner" along with the appropriate wine pairings. It was extremely enjoyable and we experienced many dishes we have never had before, all in "tapas" style quantities. We arrived at 5:45 PM and left after 9 PM. Needless to say we were very glad that we Uber'd there and back to the hotel as 13 different glasses of wine each made for a memorable evening. We will return but will probably not have the "13 Course" event as that is a "one time" occasion for sure.
Great service, taste. Clean and pretty environment. You are transported out of Florida to South America
I Highly recommend this restaurant. We were Vacationing in St. Augustine and read rave reviews about this restaurant. We made reservations and very glad we tried it. The ambience, service, wine and food were unique, outstanding and a great experience overall.
This was one of the most divine meals I've had in quite some time. The flavor balance and attention to detail in the food was exquisite. Service was impeccable. These are people who put a lot of care into their cooking!
Fantastic Peruvian food in this cozy 26 seat restaurant. Everything was delicious, must make reservations in advance as it is very popular
Had a great meal at Llama, as a Chef you don't get out much to enjoy other chef's creativity and view on food. Unless, you are working along side them. Chef Marcel and his staff made us feel at home and his creativity and style was shown through his offerings. Sometimes I worry about choosing a restaurant via Open Table because the pictures aren't the same as what you receive at the table when actually dining there. Chef Macel keeps a tight reign over his kitchen to maintain freshness of ingredients and maximizing the flavor from each. His front of the house staff is very knowledgable of each of the dishes and are very personable at the same time. Next time I will call in advance for his 13 course tasting meal :)
We had a great experience at this quaint restaurant. Llamas scattered around the room add to the whimsical decor. The Amazonian Arapaima and the beef were delicious, richly ethnic and exquisitely presented. The dessert flan with caramel lend an exquisite ending note to our meal. The only thing that cast a shadow on the whole evening was an obnoxious man on the next table who was extremely loud and nobody from management had the courtesy to ask him to tone it down in respect of other guests.
This was our first visit to Llama Restaurant, but it will NOT be our last! We did not know what to expect as neither of us has ever had Peruvian food. The squid appetizer will be a MUST every time we visit! The waiter was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. If one wants to go to a unique restaurant and try something different, this is the place to go!
Very good food but too noisy to have a conversation with my guest and service was a bit slow - better to order take out and eat the dinner st home
Outstanding food, wait staff, presentation!
You’ll be glad you went and will leave smiling.
Best food on the island, this is our favorite spot!!
Excellent and interesting food. Fantastic service - the staff is incredibly friendly. A gem in St. Augustine.
Initially I chose Llama Restaurant while visiting St. Augustine as the website noted vegan/vegetarian options. Perusing the website we were delighted to see elegantly plated, thoughtfully-created cuisine and the resulting meal did not disappoint.
This was literally the best vegan dinner I have enjoyed thus far this year after dining in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, West Palm Beach, Gainesville, etc. It is just a short (5 minute!) drive from the historic district and well worth making the trip over the Bridge of Lions for dinner.
A true gem of Peruvian cuisine, even my "meat & potato" preferring mate was BLOWN AWAY by the Lomo, which I enjoyed tweaked to a vegan dish. We also dined on the vegan mango ceviche- stunning! Crafted cocktails were delightful to the palate and eye as well. We were sorry not to have any- not a bit of room left- to enjoy coffee and dessert as on the website it looked simply marvelous. These were large portions for the beautiful cuisine featured and even so, you'll wish for more, though I don't know how we would have been able to eat another bite!
This is a "Do Not Miss It" meal in St. Augustine and due to the very limited seating- guesstimating about 40? diners- make a reservation or risk missing out as this is a slow savoring type of dinner experience. Smart casual attire is suggested and since it is a small, storefront venue, not a large, flashy restaurant, dressing up is definitely not needed.
As they suggest- Eat, Drink, Discover....we had never experienced Peruvian cuisine on this level but we will ALWAYS make a reservation from this point forward when in St. Augustine. The meal was incredible.
A birthday celebration with a dear friend. The food was unique and the flavors were so rich and interesting.
I am local to St. Augustine and have been to Llama twice. Both visits are in my top dining experiences of all time. The wait staff is genuinely nice, caring and friendly. And the food is the best I have had in the area.
Best restaurant! Great service. Amazing food
I wish more restaurants were like llamas! They take pride in their food and culture and it’s definitely showcased in their dishes. The staff is knowledgeable about the ingredients and method of cooking which allows the customer ease in deciding their meal choice. Officially my favorite restaurant !
Food was amazing. Very tasty and executed brilliantly. Service is simply the best. George was very helpful explaining different dishes. Highly recommend when visiting St. Augustine.
One word -AMAZING-
My wife and I visited for our anniversary.
I had their surf and turf dish; it was amazing. The flavor was explosive. It came in a bowl with hanger steak, shrimp, noodles, veggies and sauce.
My with had a braised beef ribs. The combination of the cilantro, meat, and lentils was exceptional.
To finish our meal we had a berry cheese cake, in house made ice cream, and the Peruvian flam. Loved them all!
Outstanding dinner at this small hidden gem. Peruvian food at its finest, beautifully plated and served
The food and service were absolutely exceptional.!
In a busy world, we seek small ethnic, one of a kind, eating spaces, where there are only 10 tables, an itty bar, wait staff with accents, and a quiet atmosphere, where the food offerings are surprising in the way they are presented and prepared. Delicious does not do the food justice. Just unique and palette pleasing. The ceviche is unlike any other served in Northeast Florida. The seafood stews are aphrodisiac(as says the menu). The hanger steak sits in an "tastes like no other" juice. The octopus appetizer is the best he's ever had(my hubby's retort).
LLama has been open for a while, and is located in a "wait, was that it" place just past the Lion's Bridge in St. Augustine, Florida. You'll miss it, unless your eyes are pealed for a small black LLama on a white sign.
Don't miss it.
Food was absolutely wonderful! Ambiance was pleasant. Staff were great. Definitely recommend. Order the antecuchos.
It was great dining experience from the unique drinks to the wonderful entrees. The desserts were so yummy and unusual too. Loved it.
If you are going to Llama, be prepared for a culinary adventure of taste and smell. Owner & Chef, Marcel, takes traditional Peruvian dishes and kicks them up a notch to create a menu that is both artistic in presentation and flavor. Combined with the small, intimate nature of the restaurant itself, the overall experience is something you would expect to find in European cities like Paris or Rome. Can't wait to have another excuse to eat there again soon.
This wonderful restaurant is the jewel of Northesst Florida dining. Not only is the food delicious, it’s art. The well trained staff, small sized quaint ambience and wine based cocktails make it a totally enjoyable experience. Highly recommend.
What a wonderful birthday dinner! Everything was spectacular. The decor and ambiance was beautiful. Everything and I mean everything from the aperitif, cocktails, appetizers, main course and dessert was delicious and breathtaking. You can tell that a lot of love and technical skill goes into each component of the dishes and beverages they make. Thank you for the birthday mousse! I will be back to this wonderful, gorgeous, delicious place. Everyone was so kind and knowledgeable as well! A++++💞💗
I love the relaxed cozy feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The paiche was amazing as usual and the ceviche was refreshing and uniquely different than other restaurants. My husband enjoyed the lomo, again, very much. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.
Very creative and interesting food. My favorite course was dessert. I had chocolate pepper ice cream and my wife had the aftermath custard. Very delicious!
The food is authentic South American (mostly Peruvian) and it is unusual and delicious. The indigenous white fish wrapped in banana leaves accompanied by native delicacies has a perfect texture and taste as well as the dessert at the top of the dessert menu ( delicate custard). The mango ceviche appetizer was also very good.
The restaurant is small (about 10-12 tables) so reservations should be made well in advance. This is a big hit among the locals in St. Augustine and could be a hard ticket as visitors catch on. Highly recommended especially for foodies.
I have been there on 5 occasions. I have never been disappointed. If you like Peruvian food this is the place to go. The service and food are outstanding. I have suggested this to other friends who have gone and not disappointed the restaurant only seats 25 customers so reservations are highly recommended. Our favorite restaurant in St Augustine
I loved this place. Very small with only about eight tables. I was new to Peruvian food but the staff was really helpful and the food was amazing. Make sure to save room for desert.
Phenomenal! Time and time again, truly phenomenal.
My daughter and I loved this small restaurant. The service was attentive. We had the Caucasus trio (shrimp salad, chicken salad, and octopus on potato cakes) appetizer, Mar y Tierra (marinated beef and shrimp over pasta with a pepper cream sauce). Both were wonderful! We especially loved their version of surf and turf. We saved room for the beautiful desserts: Lgarrobina custard (custard with spun sugar topping) and Chocolate mousse cake (dark chocolate mouse cake presented in sharp peaks like mountains in Peru.) Both of us will be back. I would love to try their tasting menu too. I would suggest reservations since the restaurant is small.
Llama is a welcome addition to the St Augustine dining scene. Unique and delicious food paired with a good wine list makes this one of the best restaurants in the area. The only downside is it is small and hard to get in because of its growing reputation as a St Augustine dining destination.
This tiny Peruvian restaurant (only 10 or so tables) is a real gem. The food is creative, well-prepared, authentic, and simply delicious (we had the Amazonian fish and the lomo, both mouth-watering!). Service is friendly and professional, and the wait staff know the dishes and their ingredients, and are enthusiastic about the menu. The wines are mostly from Latin America and Spain, but well chosen and it is quite a nice wine list for a place this size. The food is not our typical area fare but well worth a try. Reservations are a must as it is a small place and can fill up quickly. The only downside, altho that's perhaps too strong a word, is that if you have people around you talking loudly, you can hear them too easily.
We visited the Llama for my mother's birthday after having heard many good things about it. We were definitely not disappointed. The staff showed great hospitality. I am a vegetarian so my choices were limited. For a place so small and with a menu of only 7 or 8 main dishes, I was delighted that they not only had a vegetarian meal but also a vegan option which was not on the menu. I got the vegetarian mushroom stew (I cannot recall the correct Peruvian name for it) which was scrumptious. It was a bit spicy but I love spicy food so it was all the better to me. A lovely meal in a lovely little gem of a restaurant.
We were dining at Llama for our 29th wedding anniversary. We have been in the past for just an evening out with friends. It is truly a jewel of a restaurant.
