Liv's Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
We have been to Liv's on several occasions, so we knew it would be really good. The mussels were to die for, and our tuna and pasta entrees did not disappoint. They were delicious!! The one small letdown was the wait for our entrees. There were a couple of other tables who came in after us and got their food before us, and not sure what the delays was due to. Our waitress did follow-up and made sure we knew what was going on. Maybe it was due to it being Valentine's Day and their being business. No sure. Would not keep us from returning though. It is still an outstanding place to have a drink, some oysters and a great entree!
Truly one of our favorite restaurants...Robert and his team are wonderful. Oysters were incredible and Liv's shucker is probably one of the best in the state!! We will drive from our home which is on the other end of the state and not think twice...well worth the drive!
Two super satisfied customers
Our dinner at Liv's was a belated birthday celebration for my wife. We arrived a few minutes early and the restaurant was a little more "energetic" than I expected. Table wasn't our perfect choice but she had a great time and loved her dinner and that's all that counts.
A wonderful meal, fantastic service and the quality of ingredients and preparation was outstanding. As an example, as an owner/restaurateur, I shared some commentary on a particular dish which was met with great appreciation and without ego. A recognition of the level of commitment they have to the guest experience. I would highly recommend!
The only drawback to this wonderful restaurant is its somewhat strange layout and interior design that is bland and somewhat characterless on an otherwise charming coastal New England Main Street The food, however, is outstanding in every way. My girlfriend and I both started out with the chopped salad and a plate of oysters which were both fresh, flavorful, and ample. My girlfriend had seared sesame salmon with Thai noodles and broccoli, and the flavors melded beautifully, accentuated by a lovely peanut sauce. I had the shellfish paella, which was revelatory. The shellfish were expertly cooked, and the rice was beautifully spiced. The chorizo gave it a wonderful kick, and paired with a wonderful white that cut through the spice that made the dish a standout. We finished off the meal with an Almond Joy flourless chocolate cake with an amaretto mango sauce that is still memorable several days later. Great coffee too, which believe it or not, is hard to come by at some fine dining establishment, which do not prioritize this part of their service.
Liv’s is a favorite restaurant of ours and it lived up to our expectations. The food was outstanding. The oysters were fresh and so tasty. The calamari was battered lightly and was tender and delicious. So were the rest of the appetizers we tried. The Caesar salad and wild mushroom salad were scrumptious. Our entrees were exceptional. We had the swordfish, ahi tuna, apo special, hangar steak and the fried seafood dinner. Every entree for the 10 of us was cooked perfectly. We enjoyed them tremendously. The service was exceptional too. The hostess was great. Our waitress was fantastic- pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable. She and her crew kept us happy with drinks, water, bread etc. I highly recommend Liv’s.
We are repeat customers of Liv's. It is unquestionably the best restaurant in Old Saybrook. There were five in our party, and we ordered a wide variety from the menu. Each dish was of high quality - no losers in the bunch. Wednesday night in the winter is a buck-a-shuck for oysters. Last night's were Fisher's Island bred and were very tasty. It was a truly delightful meal.
Liv's has consistently provided a relatively sophisticated and accomplished menu. It focuses primarily on seafood but has other good options as well. The wine list is good and reasonable priced and the service is excellent with knowledgable wait staff.
Decibel level permits good conversation and It is an enjoyable place to eat.
Table was ready when we arrived. Wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Had to ask for bread after it was offered and didn't show. Food was well prepared and we enjoyed our choices, oysters, fish taco's, Caeser salad and mushroom ravioli. I would recommend this restaurant and plan to revisit.
I’ve been here several times. The food has ALWAYS been amazing - the service, timing of order being taken to presentation of food to table - SO SLOW - and this last time a middle of a week dinner with empty TABLES - not even busy.
Off night perhaps - just know if you go - you’ll have great food - everything else is up in the air.
We have always enjoyed our meals at Liv's. However, this time something was different. The food was not up to their high standards. We specifically asked our waitress if there were any specials and she said there were not. The waitress for the next table proceeded to review the day's specials with them.
Perhaps there has been a change in management or in the kitchen, but we will not be going there again. This is unfortunate as this was our anniversary dinner. It was so bad we have booked another date night anniversary dinner at another restaurant because we feel cheated.
