Truly enjoyed our second time to Liv's as much as the first. If you are in Old Saybrook and looking for a casual fine dining experience with an establishment that pays attention to the "little things" and serves good food with really nice presentations.....look no further. We shared the calamari.....light, crispy and tender. I absolutely LOVED the peppers. Amy will probably ask for some of the garlic mayo next time. I had the prosciutto wrapped monkfish special and Amy had the fennel crusted tuna with olive oil mashed potatoes and a tomato, fennel and olives salad. Finished the meal with a port and flourless chocolate coconut almond cake that was delicious and not too sweet. Mel was a really intuitive professional server. She was right on point with her suggestions.
Great meals and excellent service from Brian, as always. Thanks.
We just stopped in for our very first happy hour! Lovely experience with fresh Mystic oysters, crunchy fresh fried shrimp with lemon caper tartar sauce and a couple of cold Ketel One martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives. Fun!!
The food was outstanding and the staff was stellar . The decor needs an updating and the lightening is too bright .
This was our first time there and we wanted to focus just on seafood. Service and food were excellent. My seared Ahi tuna, warm but rare in the middle, was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. We went as a run up to my wife's birthday, when we always focus on great food.
Liv's is a very nice place for a date or just good food ive been several times and I will def go back. Its cozy, service is always on point and the food is always fresh and delicious
We’ve been to Liv’s many times - never disappointed. Best oysters in the state.
Always great... very consistent every time. Hubby LOVES the oysters
Greattttt service!!!!! And food was amazing!
The overall experience was very pleasant
Great service. Attentive, knowledgeable, personable wait staff. Appealing bar area. High traffic, busy dining room. Our Oysters came out quickly and were very tasty selection. Two out of our three entre's were excellent (scallops on linguine ala fennel/cheese sauce) (seared tuna cooked perfectly, also with fennel accents) and the third dinner, paella (the rice was not cooked down/reduced in broth- tasted like it was cooked separately and added to the assorted shell-fish). Large format black & White photography seashore themed artwork on walls might benefit from individual lighting rather than the overall ambient room lights which made the dining area bright at the sacrifice of ambience. Made reading menu easy but revealed perhaps a bit too much detail for our table companions.
Food was wonderful. My husband and I were visiting from NYC and the meal was on par with our local restaurant experiences. My husband loved the paella and the salmon was delicious and perfectly cooked. Definitely a keeper!
Very nice restaurant. Service was exceptional and appetizer and most of the main course were good. The only things lacking were the gnocchi were over cooked and slimy in texture, and the Crème brûlée was not properly set and was pretty watery. Overall I liked the restaurant.
My husband and I go here every couple of months. The seafood is fresh and tastes amazing the service is spectacular.
I love Liv’s - have never had anything but a fabulous dining experience
WE went to Liv's for Valentine's Day. Two great meals, excellent cocktails, responsive service. And yes, the oysters were fantastic, especially Ichabod's. What more is there to say?
We have been to Liv's on several occasions, so we knew it would be really good. The mussels were to die for, and our tuna and pasta entrees did not disappoint. They were delicious!! The one small letdown was the wait for our entrees. There were a couple of other tables who came in after us and got their food before us, and not sure what the delays was due to. Our waitress did follow-up and made sure we knew what was going on. Maybe it was due to it being Valentine's Day and their being business. No sure. Would not keep us from returning though. It is still an outstanding place to have a drink, some oysters and a great entree!
Great service with fantastic food... What more can one ask for?!
Truly one of our favorite restaurants...Robert and his team are wonderful. Oysters were incredible and Liv's shucker is probably one of the best in the state!! We will drive from our home which is on the other end of the state and not think twice...well worth the drive!
Two super satisfied customers
Our dinner at Liv's was a belated birthday celebration for my wife. We arrived a few minutes early and the restaurant was a little more "energetic" than I expected. Table wasn't our perfect choice but she had a great time and loved her dinner and that's all that counts.
A wonderful meal, fantastic service and the quality of ingredients and preparation was outstanding. As an example, as an owner/restaurateur, I shared some commentary on a particular dish which was met with great appreciation and without ego. A recognition of the level of commitment they have to the guest experience. I would highly recommend!
Very enjoyable evening dinner prior to a show at The Kate. Service was professional and attentive. Meals were some of the best we've had from any restaurant. Definitely will be back.
Liv's continues to perform at a high level. Food is great, especially the seafood. $1.00 oysters on Wednesdays are super. One of our favorite places. Gets a bit noisy on weekends.
I absolutely love this restaurant! The food is always incredible and the service is fantastic, I highly recommend a night at Liv's!
The only drawback to this wonderful restaurant is its somewhat strange layout and interior design that is bland and somewhat characterless on an otherwise charming coastal New England Main Street The food, however, is outstanding in every way. My girlfriend and I both started out with the chopped salad and a plate of oysters which were both fresh, flavorful, and ample. My girlfriend had seared sesame salmon with Thai noodles and broccoli, and the flavors melded beautifully, accentuated by a lovely peanut sauce. I had the shellfish paella, which was revelatory. The shellfish were expertly cooked, and the rice was beautifully spiced. The chorizo gave it a wonderful kick, and paired with a wonderful white that cut through the spice that made the dish a standout. We finished off the meal with an Almond Joy flourless chocolate cake with an amaretto mango sauce that is still memorable several days later. Great coffee too, which believe it or not, is hard to come by at some fine dining establishment, which do not prioritize this part of their service.
ask for mel to tend you table she is awesome and so is the entire staff
Liv’s continues to be a great restaurant. The food is wonderful and the waitstaff professional. Everything we ordered was well seasoned.
All of our meals on Sunday evening were not that good. We were disappointed. Other times we have been at Liv’s the food is delicious!!! Maybe a different chef on Sunday???
Tables are close together so you get bumped when people walk by but the food was fantastic. The server had one very needy table that held things up but it was a great time.
We were so happy the mussels with the delicious sauce were back on the menu (appetizers). I also had the roasted mushroom salad which was delicious.
My husband and I celebrated New Years Eve 2017 at Liv's Oyster Bar. It was a very pleasant experience. The wait staff was right on point and the food was outstanding. Will be returning real soon!
Liv’s is a favorite restaurant of ours and it lived up to our expectations. The food was outstanding. The oysters were fresh and so tasty. The calamari was battered lightly and was tender and delicious. So were the rest of the appetizers we tried. The Caesar salad and wild mushroom salad were scrumptious. Our entrees were exceptional. We had the swordfish, ahi tuna, apo special, hangar steak and the fried seafood dinner. Every entree for the 10 of us was cooked perfectly. We enjoyed them tremendously. The service was exceptional too. The hostess was great. Our waitress was fantastic- pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable. She and her crew kept us happy with drinks, water, bread etc. I highly recommend Liv’s.
Great service from Zaida... fabulous Oyster selection and specials. Never rushed and noise level is fine. They could tone the light level down a bit. Will certainly go back.
We are repeat customers of Liv's. It is unquestionably the best restaurant in Old Saybrook. There were five in our party, and we ordered a wide variety from the menu. Each dish was of high quality - no losers in the bunch. Wednesday night in the winter is a buck-a-shuck for oysters. Last night's were Fisher's Island bred and were very tasty. It was a truly delightful meal.
Took a family for their first time and they loved it! The service was superb!
The food here is always amazing and the service is the best I’ve ever experienced! By far my favorite restaurant.
ive eaten here a couple times and the food and service are always good. its a great place for a date night just make reservations because its not a big place and if there's no bar seats you could wait awhile
Liv’s was back up to my expectations (after a funky gas smell the last two times we went) . No gas smell, meals were excellent, service was great. Yay because this is my favorite local restaurant. We’ll resume our regular visits 😃
Fantastic oyster selection. Service and food are always perfection.
Excellent meal for my wife and I on her birthday. What a great find.
