We went for Sunday afternoon brunch. We were the only table. Could have been because we arrived at 245 and brunch concluded at noon or people’s coronavirus fears. Whatever the case, the food was EXCELLENT! Cute little restaurant, easy parking or walkable. This place is a neighborhood gem!
Delicious! Great service and nice ambiance. Good prices too
My book club had a very good dinner at Live Oak. I have been there several times and it never disappoints. It has a neighborhood vibe and a nice atmosphere. The chef is quite creative and pairs different foods together really well!
Went for brunch. Great menu. Good Bloody Mary.
We had an excellent time at the restaurant on Sunday morning. My only complaint was that the latkes I received on my plate were greasy. They tasted good, but too greasy. My simple scrambled eggs were done perfectly. Would definitely return.
I came in for a monthly dinner with friends where we try different restaurants in the DMV area. The service was subpar, and the food was even more disappointing. I will not be back. All food was cold or over cooked, for the price point it is not worth it. I was really disappointed.
This was great experience as always
Loved it, sat at the bar and had great service and great food. They heard us debating about which appetizer to order, and we later were offered tastes of the options other than the one we chose. I’m sure we’ll be back, can’t go wrong with a patio and rocking chairs during the summer.
We love this place. Feels like a neighborhood hang out but with the most amazing cuisine. Friendly, comfortable, and delicious.
Enjoyed this place!! Ambiance was fantastic and very spot on for this place! Food was fantastic- reminded me of home! Service was great- can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu!
Had a great dinner. I have eaten here several times and it has always been good.
The food and service is excellent! TOO LOUD - NEEDS MORE ACOUSTICAL DAMPING!!
Nice neighborhood place
Went for brunch and the food was pretty good and a decent price. Don’t go if you’re looking for a boozy brunch as there are no drink specials. Service was so so despite it not being crowded. Not a bad spot. May return in the future.
Lovely place..hidden gem!
Our meals were generous and hearty but a bit on the bland side. Service was outstanding and prompt.
Good food and personable. Quiet the night we were there.
I received a happy birthday card from the staff; a first for me! Nice touch!!
Great Server (Jesse), awesome food, nice neighborhood restaurant, fantastic drink menu! Something for everyone!
We went for Restaurant Week and Live Oak offered a nice $35 three-course dinner menu. The first course was very good. The salad was very fresh and the cornbread was hot and tasty. The main course was a very mixed bag. Everything on one plate was at best lukewarm: the hangar steak, the chard and the potatoes. On the other plate the trout was hot and excellently prepared, but the turnip greens were cold and I did not care for the taste. The service was just okay even though they weren't very busy.
Food was perfect! The cocktails were excellent, warm corn bread was great on a cold evening, the main courses were delicious and the chocolate peanut squares for dessert were worth the visit on their own! And, we didn’t have to scream to keep a conversation going. Highly recommended!
Went to brunch with friends, food and service was great. We all left very full and happy. I would recommend the shrimp and grits.
This was a special rare occasion that a friend of mine and I were able to get our kid free and enjoy brunch. We had never been to Live Oak before but we absolutely enjoyed it and are looking to going back soon. Our waitress was so kind and attentive. The food was excellent and she kept the coffee coming! My favorite part was the cute little cow shaped cream cup. The most tasty part of the meal was the Parmesan grits and the bacon! Just excellent!
Group of six celebrating a birthday. We all opted for different restaurant week enters and we had NO disappointment!
Our entrees were served only slightly warm and everything we tasted was terribly over salted. Server kept making odd little remarks, like asking for our app order (deviled eggs) then after we told him our entrees, he had to ask our app again, only minutes later. “The fried pickles, right? Oh, the eggs! Close enough!” Huh? Not really.
Disappointing experience. The place looks like it should be hopping with customers on a weekend night, but was oddly empty.
The restaurant is fully handicapped accessible. At the corner of Commonwealth Ave and Monroe St in the Del Ray neighborhood of the City of Alexandria, it is easy to find although the only street parking might be a bit scarce depending on day and hour. The menu was intriguing with Southern comfort food, but the execution was a bit disappointing for me. Fried green tomatoes turned out to be 4 thin slices of hard crusted fried tomato on grits with a small curl of ham on each thin half moon. The shrimp and grits needed to be just that - less is more. Instead, there was scarcely any unnecessary sausage, too much extra unnecessary greens (weeds), and an ocean of so-so gravy that turned the entire dish into grits soup with overcooked shrimp afloat in it. My dining companion reported that the short ribs were very good. (Side note: my companion is not from the USA so take that into consideration.) Due to dietary restrictions, dessert turned out to have to be the house-made sorbets. All in all I would return but with great care on selecting from the limited menu.
I was not impressed but maybe it was a bad day... my shrimp tacos were cold and the server was not very pleasant. I also wasn't in the mood for brunch so opted for 1 of the very few non-breakfast entrees on the menu.
My wife and I went here for our anniversary and were pleasantly surprised by both the service and the food. The staff made sure to mention our special day as soon as we arrived, including a hand written note. The chef then went on to provide us with an appetizer and desert on the house. Beyond the hospitality, the food was excellent from start to finish. Highly recommended.
Great food and excellent service.
First time at Live Oak. Will definitely be returning. Food was fantastic. Service was excellent.
Great Old Fashioned. Best Deviled Eggs ever.
Best brunch in Alexandria! We had the shrimp and grits and southern egg sandwich and both were delicious. The ambiance was sweet and the staff was great! Highly recommend.
Really, really good. Food was excellent and so was the atmosphere. A side of bacon were ordered was not delivered. But frankly, we were so full by that point, we didn't miss it. The server graciously took it over a bill and a manager gave us a gift card for our next visit. Can't say enough about this place. What a pleasant surprise and hope to return.
Good food and friendly staff
I have not been to Live Oak in a few months and the last time was a big disappointment. This time was far from that. The service was very attentive and the food was delicious. I had the trout and my husband had the short ribs. The chef provided us with a complimentary pear salad appetizer which was a nice compliment to both meals. We finished off with the peanut butter squares, which are always yummy. We will definitely add Live Oak back to the Friday date night rotation.
Our first time at Live Oak was very nice. It strikes just the right note between being quiet enough for a romantic date, but lively enough that I could see meeting friends at the bar. Our food was good—I especially like the Brussels Sprouts side dish. We will definitely be back.
Delicious food and great service
Brunch was wonderful! Love the menu!!
My husband is in a wheelchair & uses a walker and the staff was very helpful.
