Little Sister - Redondo Beach
relaxed social environment that feels more residential than
restaurant, as if you're being invited into the Chef Tin's home.
Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more
interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out
of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. Dishes blend and
balance the spices and flavors of Southeast Asia with French
techniques and Dutch and British colonial influences. The menu is
continually and progressively evolving, reflecting inspiration and the
seasons. "Little Sister Redondo Beach offers straight-up, honest, home-style Vietnamese cuisine—the type of food I grew up eating with my grandparents in the San Gabriel Valley.”

I had it in the shaky shaky beef before and it was perfectly cooked to shake. Ours was hard and difficult to chew. The dumplings were delicious I’m perfectly cooked and presented.
Food was great.
Drinks took forever to get.
Restaurant was freezing.
We asked to turn down / off AC "we'll try" - it was f r e e z i n g
We come here for the food and NOT for the service which has gotten worse over time. Wait time between appetizer and main entree was 45 mins. Our server never once came by to ask us if we wanted refills on our drinks or asked how we were doing and we had to flag another server to get our bill. Where is management? Seems like some retraining is very much needed.
Fabulous food with very, very slow service and two competing "thumping" sound tracks (one in dining room, the other from the kitchen).
Had the salt and pepper lobster with fried rice. Our waitress said it was large but it was ginormous whole Maine lobster in a paella pan. Loved it and have enough for another meal . Pricey but worth it is you love lobster and fried rice with lots of seafood in it.
Not for vegetarians!! Told me the special could be made without meat, had sausage in it so I couldn’t eat it, and then offered me free dessert. Almost every dish has meat in it and if the kitchen screws up, it’s on your dime.
Good food good ambiance definitely recommend good service
The food is amazing…. We had the Bo nè and the fried sea bass… it was all so delicious.
Our experience during Covid of course was very different than our time having eaten at the Manhatten Beach location. With that being said we felt very safe while eating our dinner outdoors. The service was good but not great. Waiter only came around when bringing our food although he was very nice. They didn't come to clean our tables so we were eating our desert with the dishes from dinner which was weird. Food was great and always enjoy the tasty dishes.
They changed chefs and the food is not the same 🥺 There were two other couples next to us that all started talking to one another about them changing the lemon grass chicken. Bring it back!!
Another Riviera Village gem. Warm and friendly staff eager to guide one through the menu. We had the dumplings for a starter, outstanding. Skaken-shaken beef and the house noodles were great and highly recommended. Very enjoyable experience overall.
Great Vietnamese food and Stephanie, our server, was very prompt and provided great customer service.
The food was delicious. The restaurant was able to guarantee outdoor seating reservations which made the restaurant decision easy.
They play rap music in the background, which I enjoyed, but may be surprising to most people booking at a Vietnamese restaurant.
Seated right away.
Menu has a good selection of proteins.
I think some of the food runs on the spicier side (which I loved). So if you’re spice adverse (think Fresno and jalapeño heat), you should let your server know.
We ordered the following:
1. Mini sourdough sesame baguette. They served with tomato jam (yum), a softened butter (yum), and pate (not my bag but I am sure others would enjoy it). I felt the bread was toasted too hard (not burnt, it was golden brown), but too crunchy. Think toast instead of a crusty outer baguette yielding to a soft center). It could be what they are going for.
2. pho banh cuon - beef rolled with herbs and heat in a thick rice paper (thicker/denser than a crepe). Absolutely delicious.
3. goi du du"#green papaya salad - another yummy dish. If I had to nitpick, the jumbo shrimp were over cooked.
4. cà ri gà vietnamese chicken curry - packed with flavor. Somewhat hard to eat without getting messy. Served with a larger, softer baguette. Chicken was tender. Curry was tasty.
5. ga xao xa ot"#spicy lemongrass chicken wings - also delicious. Also messy. Waiter was kind enough to bring hot towels to refresh.
Waiter was friendly and knowledgeable.
Would’ve given it a 5 Star overall but they were out of wine and the one dessert we wanted.
Noisy and waiter was not attentive but food was great!
We asked to seat outside because of the recent Delta outbreak. We say outside under a blistering sun. Would have appreciated umbrellas.
Excellent service, delicious, beautifully prepared food, my taste buds are still tingling. VERY pricey for the small quantities but it was a special occasion and we had a great time. It was my first time there and I look forward to going again. Almost $200 including tip for 4 people with no alcohol, So it will be a very rare treat.
Our bodies always feel better after eating the delicious food here. (Seriously, our joints get some relief for days!)
The quality of their food is worth receiving courses in whatever order the kitchen can create and send out as fresh as possible (both hot and cold dishes).
We keep an open mind and like to order many dishes and share. We've tried more than half of the dishes on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. Our regular "go to's" are the bo tai chanh (beef tartar), goi cuon (fresh spring roll w/ shrimp & pork), shaky shaky beef, saigon lemongrass beef, suon nuong (grilled porkchop and rice to die for... and my husband's absolute favorite!), red & black rice (a Vietnamese version of jambalaya) and 'bun tom thit nuong cha gio' (charbroiled pork and shrimp over vermicelli).
The dinner servers seem to be more attentive and "on the ball" than the day servers but we noticed a few new daytime faces so maybe they're addressing it.
Location, food and ambiance good. Service was very poor. Ordered an appetizer and it took 40 min to receive it. The only reason it finally came out was because I continued to ask where our food was?? Other customers ordered after us and were all getting there food. The entire restaurant had food at there tables accept us. Waitress kept telling me it comes out in the order they receive. It was completely obserd!!!!! Also, the waitress didn’t care at all. Not sure if I will go back.
Food was very good. Service was awful. Slow to be welcomed. The waiter recommended a dish for our kids, which we ordered. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees. Two entrees came first, then appetizers, and lastly the meal recommended for the kids. What gives? It was frustrating. We fed the kids so much of our meals that we thought about canceling the meal designated for the kids. It was comical to hear a neighboring table have the same complaint.. “entrees before appetizers “. It had promise, but the experience was just not worth it.
Great as always!
Great food with the updated menu.
Glad to finally enjoy a meal indoors here
The service and food was amazing! I can’t wait to go back. If you love pecan pie I highly recommend ending your dinner with the whisky pecan tart!
- we had to try hard to get waitresses’ attention to order more drinks and foods when the restaurant didn’t look that busy
- pretty but snobish waitresses
- 2 dishes out of 5 choices of happy hour dishes were out
- we had to raise our voice because the restaurant gotten so noisy
- after 3 hours, we were asked to leave for next guests but we didn’t see anyone waiting outside and saw few empty tables, our total bill was over $200 for 3 of us so it’s not that we were just killing time.
We love the shrimp and pork rice paper and papaya salad.
Best papaya salad in town!
They have a new menu - garlic noodles which is ok.
We made a reservation for 8:30pm and showed up 15 minutes early. When we arrived I think the host wanted to tell us that they were closed but because I said we had a reservation they took us. As soon as we sat down he told us we had 15 minutes until the kitchen closed. We said fine and sat down. 2 minutes later our waitress showed up and said we had 10 minutes to order. We quickly picked our drink and ordered only two things and decided we would leave there and go somewhere else to eat dinner. The food was delicious but the service was not good especially considering the cost. We tried to order a second drink and she said they were fully closed, not even to get a drink which I've never experienced before. Usually the kitchen will close but desserts and drinks are still available. She didn't even give us a heads up that the bar was closing. I looked up when the restaurant closes online and it says 930pm which makes sense why you guys were providing reservations until 830pm. All in all not a great experience and we had to go somewhere else to have dinner because we felt so rushed.
The food was very flavorful and we had a great dining experience. We will return again soon.
We were seated at one of the round tables and the music was very loud; we had to ask to have the music turned down .
Our meal was fantastic. I went with my girlfriend and we sat outside. Our sever Brian was fantastic and attentive and just an all-around great guy. We had four dishes which were all superb. The menu can be intimidating, so I would suggest asking your server for recommendations. The kitchen can be a little slow, but small price to pay for a popular restaurant when then food is so delicious (just order an extra appetizer or some bread if you are hungry). Thanks for a great meal, guys! We will be back!
We have always enjoyed the food at Little Sister and this was our first time at the Redondo Beach location. The food was good but there were some issues. The music was way too loud and we were seated at a table next to the kitchen and right under the speaker. If we had been a walk on customer, this would’ve been fine but I made the reservation weeks ago for a birthday dinner. Also, there was confusion between the paper menu and online menu which led to a return of one of our dishes. We ordered a beer and it was really foamy so the server said she would bring another at no charge which never happened. Also, the waters were never refilled and we had to ask. Each of these things wouldn’t have been a big deal separately but when it happens during the same meal it isn’t good. Lastly, it was a birthday meal and that was never acknowledged which typically happens at a restaurant when you reserve a table and specify it’s for a birthday. The food was tasty as always but for the price the experience should’ve been better.
Server was ok. They ran out of pancake and pretended it was no big deal, on a Friday 6pm dinner service. Food tasted just ok.
Best happy hour in Redondo. Great vibe. Fantastic cocktails. Amazing flavors in every dish.
The music was a bit too loud, and the room a bit too cold. Service was extremely slow despite the number of empty tables. But food is always superb!
Good food and drinks. Service was very slow as our server was also the bartender. I hope this was a fluke and likely due to COVID-19 staffing issues. I appreciate they acknowledge the issues. Will give them another shot.
Great fusion Asian food especially the curry okra, just love it and the egg roll is awesome.
They have a new menu so some of our favorites are no longer offered. Used to love the eggplant and the lemongrass chicken. The new lemongrass chicken is not nearly as tasty. Also, the new menu has very few GF options. And, almost every dish has beef or pork, including their vegetable dishes. Overall, very disappointing.
We forgot how much we loved this restaurant! The food was great!
We were a little bummed we didn’t get seated outside as the reservation stated. It seemed like they were unaware of our reservation until we showed up. It’s too loud inside. Food was great. Service could be better.
The food is a bit greasy. Overall, great dining experience!
