About Little Sister Manhattan Beach
Little Sister Manhattan Beach features East-meets-West inspired dishes served in a relaxed social environment that feels more residential than restaurant as if you're being invited into the Chef Tin's home. Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. The menu is continually and progressively evolving to reflect the seasons.

Little Sister Manhattan Beach Ratings and Reviews
To be fair, we did go there for lunch and not dinner. The lunch menu lacked some of their notable items. We did try the papaya salad, saigon lemon grass beef noodles and the fried fish banh mi. Wasn't really impressed by any of them. The papaya salad had disgusting tiny little shrimp in it (you see the black eyes and even my husband who eats live shrimp and all kinds of shrimp did not want to eat these). The beef noodle dish is cold. And the banh mi was on a thick french roll where all you taste is bread, so I opened it up and ate only the inside. The pho soup it came with was just the broth with a couple of onion pieces in it. There are so many better places to eat in MB, that you really should skip this one. (Fishing with Dynamite or the Manhattan Beach Post right across the street is a much better bet!) There was very loud rap music playing as well, which is odd for this kind of restaurant. Was hard to have a conversation.
I would say "It's worth a try for sure... they have a lot of creative food and take some chances, it's cute inside, so worth a try. "
First time dining here, we had the imperial rolls, papaya salad and shaky shaky beef. They do a good job of using trad. Thai flavors for sure - the papaya salad was really nice. The imperial rolls were tasty also - but flavor profile is very similar between the two (sweet, spicy, salty, tangy - the standard Thai profile). The shaky beef was a disappointment. Thought it might be seasoned differently, more interesting perhaps... but it's mainly a lime/pepper sauce and alone, we not very enjoyable. The meat could have used some other seasoning, perhaps something to round out that strong lime juice. $31 for about 5 chunks of underwhelming beef... a lot of restaurants will do a great ribeye with sides for that price..was a bit overpriced.
Not bad, not great... somewhere in between for us.
The food is excellent. Great use of delicious seasonings. I had been there before. We went for Dine LA. I knew I was not going to get the fixed menu. My friend wanted the Dine LA menu but was told that we both had to order from that menu. We have both been to other Dine LA restaurants where this is not the case. Sometimes one or more of us do not want the Dine LA menu for various reasons but we still want to dine together and some order the Dine LA menu and some just off the regular menu.
We both ordered off the regular menu and the food was excellent. However, my friend wanted to order off the Dine LA Menu and couldn't. Is this just Little Sister or is this a new policy?
We were disappointed by the fact that our reservation was at 8 and we were not seated until 8:25. Not to mention we drove an hour to get there and were 10 minutes early. They gave us some pickles and cabbage once we got seated "on the house" which we appreciated, but in my opinion, they should have at least thrown in an appetizer. This is one of our favorite restaurants and we'll still come back, but not sure how reliable the reservations are given the size of the restaurant.
Our waiter was terrible, unfriendly, inattentive. We had to flag down other servers to order more wine. He didn't say one word to us after we ordered. He never checked on us, he didn't even ask if we needed anything else he just dropped off the bill without a word
We made the reservation since it looked cute and the menu was looking exciting. When we arrived and were seated it took about 15 minutes before a server came over. At that time since the door of the restaurant was kept open we were freezing and I asked the waiter if they would close the door so it would be warmer. He said he would ask the manager and came back with a negative answer. We paid for the water we ordered and left, since this is not an environment to have a nice diner! No, no, no. I am not dining there for the restaurants pleasure.
First time at this location. We've been to the other two. This was a miss. The wonton soup had tasty wontons but the broth lacked flavor. The sides of cabbage and pickles were not the best we've ever had. The best items were the ribs and the grilled prawns. No extra sauces were offered so that might explain why some items were bland. One server on a busy afternoon means slow service. We were asked how things were after we finished eating. OC location is much better.
This is like a tapas kind of place. My wife really like the food, I found it ok. It is nicely busy and in the center of the collection of restaurants in Manhattan Beach. Service was wonderful, food was good, and I would go back, but it is more of a convenience, fun, busy place to eat, than a food destination in my opinion. Nevertheless, if you have not eaten there, go give it a try, it offers unique, kind of Asian fusion dishes.
Food was okay at best. The menu is brief and unimaginative, and with so few options you would expect that the focus should allow them to do it very well- instead it was average. I like almost all of the comparable restaurants in a Manhattan Beach better than this one.
We had dinner here the afternoon/evening before the Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks show. Early seating at 4pm so we enjoyed happy hour until 5pm. The food is delicious, albeit expensive, the service is friendly and efficient, the location is great - right in the heart of Manhattan Beach. Two things bothered me, the artwork on the walls (machine guns and hand grenades) and the loud rap music playing on the house stereo. Am I missing something? I don't get it.
Amazing experience. Place was recommended and did not disappoint! Service was terrific (thanks Jacqueline!).
Every dish was different but delicious. Flavors exploded in your mouth and presentation was terrific. It’s a drive from downtown LA but worth it.
This year I have been on 80 flights and this is a top 10 restaurant for 2017.
Service very slow. Vegetarian choices scant. Brown rice dish was very bland and it took 15 minutes to get a tiny portion of soy sauce to give it some flavor. Baguettes were served with an inadequate portion of butter. My previous experience was at happy hour and each thing we ordered was outstanding. This experience was disappointing, as I had raved about it.
Based on the reviews and ratings, I had much higher hopes for Little Sister. We had friends in from New York, one with a gluten allergy. I asked the hostess prior to arriving if the restaurant could accommodate her. I was told that they could. We arrived on time for our reservation and had to wait at least 30 minutes for a table. We could not hear one another the restaurant was so loud. The food was mediocre--heavily saucy and salty. The decor was nice and the use of space was good, but acoustics, service, food and quality of our night out was disappointing.
Service: slow, server was too direct and brought check before asking for desert
Food: very good, on point, fantastic experience with spices and prized ok
Location: good n energetic, close to great bars, too
Drinks: average, wine was ok
Music: too loud but not annoying actually ok
Comments: it's a cool place for a drink/wine and great food, not for a date though it was so loud, we couldn't understand each other
This was my favorite restaurant in Manhattan beach but the last two visits have spoiled that for me! Although the food is tasty the service and lack of timeliness makes it impossible to enjoy a nice dining experience. When we first started going to Little Sister the staff was excited to talk about the menu and the taste profiles of their dishes. Now you even though you book a reservation you are hardly acknowledged! We gave it a second chance hoping that my ruined birthday dinner in August was a fluke but once again we waited and waited for someone to notice they have not improved! I wish I could say it was a busy night but it was not. We will try one of their other resturants! Sadly I can no longer recommend this resturant any longer. So sad!
