Very unique menu that has numerous dishes that you do not find elsewhere. The atmosphere is lively with the tables close together and people tend to be very friendly and talk with others about the food they have ordered, etc. Great place for date night if you like trying new things.
What I had was different than I expected. Just didn’t agree with my tastes but others may really like it. Hi he place is really cute and my server was great. Would try again.
It was my friend’s birthday, which I indicated via OpenTable and which someone at Little Sister called to confirm and took note of. There was no acknowledgment at by anyone there. We had an 8:30 reservation (which wasn’t the last available time slot for that evening), and, while I understand the restaurant closes at 9, they started cleaning up the condiments off our table while we were eating. It was my second time there and I couldn’t wait to share the experience with my friend for her special day, after having such a great experience the first time. But I’m kind of sorry I took her there. We felt, at best, invisible and, at worst, a nuisance.
Predictable food with lots of sliced chilies (with seeds). Need to careful not to order dishes with similar flavor profile. Service was attentive but sever was stretched on Saturday night. Thankfully music volume has been turned down so now it’s possible to have conversation!
Food was horrible for the price - haven’t been this disappointed in a long time. Wish I ate somewhere else
Very good for a casual work dinner. I was very impressed with their vegan/vegetarian menu options. And I’m a big fan of sake cocktails. We’ll be back.
Excellent food! Such great unique flavors!
I was very disappointed with this place, as a resident who lives nearby I was hoping for a good spot. Service was subpar. We were forgot about after being seated which lead to a table that was seated after us getting served well before us, for me that is never good.
Maybe we had too high of expectations because it was on Jonathan Gold's list. But it was really underwhelming, especially given the price.
Not great service. Over hyped restaurant. Food was good but not great and they were out of many things on the menu. We eat a lot of Asian food and this was just ok and very overpriced.
Highly recommend. Make sure to feed the parking meter generously as the meal does take quite long.
I can’t lie, I had big expectations for this place based on the reviews but I found the food mediocre. We had the shaky, shaky beef (not enough sauce or flavor), the lemongrass chicken (bone in, how are you supposed to eat that with chopsticks) and the lobster (you guessed it, it came in shell). We thought our server could have advised us better on our choices and the food honestly could have been a lot tastier.
Phenomenal service and phenomenal food - very skilled chefs. Probably best baguette in Manhattan Beach.
Our server was very nice and attentive enough. However, the time it took for the food to come out was incredibly slow. We ordered two appetizers (dumplings and spring rolls), chilean seabass, beef vermacelli , seafood rice and bok choy side. First dish to come out was the bok choy side, followed by dumplings, then seabass, then spring rolls, then rice then vermacelli....all of the dishes came out individually and 15-20 apart and in such a strange order. The food is good and I've been coming to Little Sister in MB and DTLA locations for many years but lately, it seems service at BOTH locations have slacked and not impressive. Food is good (that's consistent) but not impressed with the overall service of it all, which is a shame because I've always loved the restaurant.
The decor, the service, location (beach ajacent) and the soundtrack (90s hip hop) are the standouts. The food is better than well made but nothin stands out. It's a fine night out.
One of the worst overall dining experiences I’ve ever had. Despite the fact that we ordered promptly, other diners that were seated 30 mins after our arrival received several courses by the time we finally received an appetizer. Over 30 minutes between first and second course. Of the 5 dishes sampled, only enjoyed one. Dumplings and bok choy were tasteless, curry noodles only had one note of flavor (the curry), the shaky shaky beef was unevenly cooked (spots of well done, spots of medium rare). Only apologies for slow service was an offering of pickles.
Ambiance was awful. Tables crammed together, high noise level, and a booming bass of music on top of that. Had been anticipating a fun evening of delicious food at a small spot of good repute—was severely, severely disappointed. Especially for the $150 we paid for a meal (3 drinks, 5 small shared plates).
interesting food, great service (Menu advice) and a good wine list
We love this restaurant so we went there for my husband’s birthday. It never disappoints and it didn’t this day either! The only thing I will say is that I received an email saying that they would be having Spice Hour 2-5 on the Saturday of the SixMan tournament and when we asked about it, they had no idea what we were talking about and didn’t honor it. We had a plan of trying a bunch of different small plates and it just changed our plan a little bit. I would just suggest the corporate office should get their restaurants on the same page when they’re running specials. But we love it as always and will be back!
The seafood tasted frozen and then boiled (flaccid shrimp and rubbery bay scallops were used in place of what the actual dish called for) and most dishes were heavy handed with sauce. Service was great, but really disappointed with the food. Won’t be going back.
The vegetarian options were nonexistent and even most of the fish dishes are pork based.
We have been there a few times before. Love the food. This most recent time, we arrived late, for their 9 PM seating. They had called us earlier to let us know that last call was at 9. We are rushing from a concert and worried we wouldn’t be able to get seated before their last call for food. We arrived right at 9 PM. They were waiting for us. Told us to sit down and relax, that the kitchen knew we were there and would be putting an order in soon. We did order quickly in order to help out the kitchen staff. They brought the food and were adamant about us relaxing and enjoying our meal there. The service could’ve been better! And of course the food, as always works great.
My girlfriend and I went for our 3 year anniversary. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive and helpful as this was our first time there. She recommended the fried Eggplant and it was fantastic, the shaky beef was great and the Vietnamese Coffee was fantastic. We absolutely plan on returning to LIttle Sister.
The food was great! The service nice. The problem we ecountered was with the libations. My brother ordered a draft beer that was room temperature upon arrival. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table and had to wait 15/20 minutes for it to be chilled. After our first glass, the wine was losing its chill. AND we were celebrating two birthdays and NOTHING was offered, nor was any mention given by the server. (The hostess was amazingly helpful and kind and mentioned the birthdays) NOT what we expected for a $300 meal - b/w 3 people.
Love the atmosphere, great food, good service. will be back.
Did the Dine in LA fixed menu with 4. Great choice.
Very nice hostess and waitress. Appreciated the customer service greatly! Food was tasty
Loud, hip spot but very good food! We enjoyed the rolls and noodles the most!
There were definitely some really good flavors here.
The wontons were the star of the night and the rolls were nicely crafted with good flavor. We were really disapointed by the fried meat balls and drinks. I'm not a drinker which is why two drinks usually get me pretty tipsy. I had 4 of their sake cocktails and not even a buzz. This was the most dissapointing considering how much I paid for flavored water.
Dine LA. We are MB residents and were here many, many years ago. All good with exception of so noisy couldn’t hear one another across table and tables jammed too close together so as to make private conversation impossible. That said we’ll come back in the middle of the week come winter!
Food is always spot on. We loved every dish. Great service, location, atmosphere. Dessert took a little too long to deliver to the table and was kind of underwhelming given how amazing the meal itself was. Little Sister is one of our favorite places in MB
I’ve been to Little Sister several times. The food on this trip was not nearly as good as it has been in the past. The dumplings were soggy, the curry noodles had very little flavor other than just straight curry. I would go back, but the food on this particular visit was not up to par with what it should have been. I also felt like the waiter didn’t listen when we placed our order. They brought us 2 dishes that we didn’t order and didn’t bring the food that we did order. Overall it should have been a lot better than it was.
So so good. Every dish was extremely flavorful and delicious.
Wonderful service. Great recommendations from the menu
The food at LS is great, very flavorfull. We order several items and share so everyone gets to try several dishes.
Food and Ambiance was great. Our server was good. Not sure who to blame but our food took over an hour. The table to our left and right came after us and the table to the right had paid their bill before we got our entrees. 🤷🏻♂️
First of all, I want to say that the food here is spectacular. However it took 2 hours to serve three dishes ordered ordered within fifteen minutes of arrival. A neighbor at the bar also left prior to receiving her food because of the slow service.
We were seated right on time at our table. Water was poured immediately, which I like. My gripe was that my beer order was taken incorrectly. I ordered the first draft on the menu and I pointed to it. (Torrance brewery). I was instead given a different beer and then charged $2 more. I did not notice this until the bill came. The beef salad was a little too spicy, though I liked the creativity.
The menu was very restricting.
Totally disappointed. Expensive wannabe South Asian restaurant. I’ve eaten in a lot more Vietnamese and Singaporean restaurant for a lot less.
Chewy pork belly, tough beef rendang, bland bun bowl, what the heck salted cod fried rice. Only consolation was the red and black rice with mixed seafood and Vietnamese sausage. Not coming back at all.
Food is good, service was great, overall however I thought it was very over priced for the experience, especially on the drinks, the market on the drinks was ridiculous!
