Little Sister - Downtown
relaxed social environment that feels more residential than
restaurant, as if you"re being invited into the Chef Tin's home.
Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more
interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out
of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. Dishes blend and
balance the spices and flavors of Southeast Asia with French
techniques and Dutch and British colonial influences. The menu is
continually and progressively evolving, reflecting inspiration and the
seasons. Scott Young along with Chef Tin curates the restaurant's wine and beverage program
with a focus on intriguing labels, both domestically and from around
the world. Craft beer selection includes special batches from The
Brewery at Abigaile, brewed only for the restaurant.
Food was good as always. But was disappointed to have made my reservation 2 weeks in advance and got pushed multiple times for what seemed like pushy people who flooded the doors and caused the hostess to seat them first. I was sitting back patiently waiting for my reservation. Other than that, all was good
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the downtown area. The sauces are decadent without being too heavy and just the right amount of salt. The service is always superb with the staff being willing to make suggestions and provide suggestions on dishes with the intimate knowledge of the menu. It is a cozy restaurant with a great ambiance.
They only serve beer and wine, so this is not swanky cocktail place and the seats are mostly wood and metal so it can be a bit uncomfortable. This is important because with how delicious the food is you will want to sit and savor.
Obsessed. Get the SGV banh mi
Service was terrible, took 45 minutes to get 4 steamed dumplings. Gut the food comped but still ...
Amazing food! I loved everything we ordered. Super tasty. I was especially a big fan of the black rice clay pot and also the fish congee. Huge chunks of fish. Great value.
Great vibe amazing music and service was spot on!!
Excellent food and very nice place, not expensive. But too loud music
I've been to this restaurant 3 times in the past 6 months and it just keeps getting better. Firstly, the food is inventive and executed perfectly. I've tried most dishes on the menu, but still have a few more to sample. The pork belly is always a favorite, as are the Efu noodles. This time we tried the hotpot and the salted cod fried rice and was very impressed. The ambiance is lively and fun, without being pretentious and the service was impeccable. All the wait staff are very attentive, but I have to give a shout out to Nikki (I think that was her name) - We ordered the dumplings and they were a little cold in the middle. Nikki immediately apologized, took them back and within 5 minutes brought us some new piping hot ones.. And they were delicious. Nikki comped us for that dish and comped us a free dessert. She really went above and beyond our expectations and was professional and polite throughout. I really love this restaurant. It ticks all the boxes and is very reasonable when it comes to the bill. I can't recommend enough. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Amazing bites & flavors
Best place to have good quality Vietnamese food. By far the best place to have it!
Incredibly delicious food
Our third time at this location and, by far, the best experience yet. The Shaky/Shaky Beef was cooked perfectly, the shrimp and crab dumplings perfectly executed, and the snapper with peanut sauce was amazing. We will be back to this location within the next week to try other items from their menu.
We went here for NYE. The ambience was perfect...it’s a great room. The food was excellent! We loved everything we ordered: shaky shaky beef, pork chops, octopus salad and several other dishes. Highly recommend!
This place was amazing! We ordered the white fish congee, dumplings, imperial rolls, and Vietnamese coffee flan. I want to go back and try everything else! The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He made great suggestions.
Everything was delicious except the shaky beef which was overdone and chewy. I asked the waiter about this 30 dollar abomination and he said that’s how it should be lol Literally everything else was perfect. Order the lemongrass beef salad instead ! So good
We made a reservation on OpenTable for Christmas Eve. Took a Uber there only to find out that the restaurant is closed for business on Christmas Eve. Met people who did the same thing outside the restaurant. Very frustrating experience. Why would you ever take reservation if you are not even open??
They were closed when we had made reservations on open table
Tight space and very loud but great food.
Food is delicious
Tight seating arrangement but the food and atmosphere were great!
Fabulous food that is so different you won’t find anything like it anywhere else.
Great service, food was great! There were some new dishes on the menu and they were all amazing. I've been here before, but did noticed their menu has some new items, so we ordered that and they were very tasty!
The place was busy, even though I had reservations--so still had to wait before they clean the tables when I arrived. However, service was great and I certainly looking forward to going back to try the rest of the menu very soon!
I have been to Little Sister many times, and the food is consistently amazing. The clay pot, the crepe and lemongrass beef are great choices.
I would recommend because of food if you have a lot of free time.
Service is always subpar because the space is tight, they're overworked and book reservations too close. Always a long wait for tables, food, etc. even with reservation. Last 3 visits an item was forgotten in the kitchen.
Last table near kitchen is awful/ sofa cushions have no support and your body falls in about 12 inches deep. Table was at my collar level. They don't care.
For some reason they put me as a no show but I was there :)
Such great flavors. Great place. Love the service and the atmosphere.
The steak tartar is, as others have said, outstanding. The reason for my only giving them 3 stars is the Sa-Po, which is written on the menu as being a seafood hot pot and having tofu and pork. The dish I received had literally zero tofu or pork. It was a light clear broth and not what I was interested in. When I asked the server why it was so different than the description he shrugged and said, well, yeah, that's the Sa-Po, that's what you ordered. I also ordered a junmai sake with cucumber in the name, I assumed that being junmai the cucumber was a flavor profile reference. Nope, it tasted like cucumber soap. Really had high hopes for this place and was overall quite disappointed.
Meal was great. Service was great. Found a long hair in my water, but I just got it switched out and enjoyed my meal.
Unpleasant experience. Two diners. Two noodle bowls ordered. One entree served but one of us waited and waited (at the end of the lunch hour and not busy). Our server told us that “chef is going to give extra beef!” to make up for the wait. Sorry, but eating by yourself in shiftswhile your partner watches is unfun.
The pho ga was flavorless, and left me longing for the usual ram rau, basil and mint (herb shortage or typical?) not just piles of onion and cilantro. No ma on the ma la pickle.
Just not impressed and wondering why the LA Times was.
Good food (small portions).
The food was absolutely delicious, full of flavor.
Food is always phenomenal. Love this place.
They didn’t course it this time and the tables are amazingly small... it’s ‘suprisingly’ difficult to eat a 3 course meal when all 3 courses are on the table at the same time.
Friendly attentive service and yummy flavorful food. A new favorite! Only thing that is off is the club music... :)
Went for lunch with my business partner and had one of the best Pho’s in town.
Overpriced fusion cuisine not as good as what it’s trying to mimic. Way more expensive that it should be. Too much vinegar in all the dishes
Awesome experience! 8:15 rezo, hostess was nice to offer two open tables for options (gracious on her part). Phillip our server was nice and never felt rushed. Food on all levels was delicious, fresh, vibrant and flavorful. Pricing is very fair for what u get. Restaurant is pretty and good energy flowing all over and noticed the staff were friendly and all seemed to work well together. *busser staff was great and on top of things. Music sound track was on point! Tip if arrive early go next store for a drink at V lounge to chill before the grubbing begins 😉
Too much food served at the same time- it should be no more than two small plates at one time. Feeling of being rushed - not good at these prices.
Little Sister never disappoints when it comes to vibrant flavors and fresh ingredients. We had the papaya salad with crispy strips of beef jerky giving it a delicious crunch. I also had the amazing sea bass accompanied by spicy peppers, noodles and lettuce to make a wrap. Rolled up or right off the plate, it was amazing. Finally, as a plus or a minus depending on what type of experience you're looking for, the dishes come out very fast at Little Sister. For us, it was great because we had plenty of time to run across the street and catch our movie. For others I can see how the service can make you feel a bit rushed. There's nothing wrong with asking the kitchen to stagger your order so that you can savor every bite.
