Little Sister - Downtown
relaxed social environment that feels more residential than
restaurant, as if you"re being invited into the Chef Tin's home.
Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more
interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out
of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. Dishes blend and
balance the spices and flavors of Southeast Asia with French
techniques and Dutch and British colonial influences. The menu is
continually and progressively evolving, reflecting inspiration and the
seasons. Scott Young along with Chef Tin curates the restaurant's wine and beverage program
with a focus on intriguing labels, both domestically and from around
the world. Craft beer selection includes special batches from The
Brewery at Abigaile, brewed only for the restaurant.
I wish I could say something better but our experience was very unfortunate and below par.
We reserved a table two days ahead and arrived 10 minutes early. Even though we were there on time and had a reservation, we had to wait 30 minutes outside in the cold before we got seated.
The service was very slow and it took another 15 minutes until a server came to take our order. Since the service seemed so slow, we ordered all of our dishes immediately.
We did not get a water bottle on our table and our glasses were never refilled. After 45 minutes, we had to wave someone down in order to get water.
After our meal, we were not asked if we wanted any desserts and just got the bill. Even though I wanted to try a dessert, at that point I was over asking for more things.
One of our appetizers wasn't served and we asked for it. We were told that it was forgotten and that we would get it shortly. 20 minutes later and the dish was still not there.
The food was really good but this is the only good thing about this place.
It was a Sunday night and there was party music blasting which made a date night conversation impossible (not to mention how close the tables are together so I could witness all of the conversations around us). In general it's really loud and crammed.
I think this place is always crowded so they think they don't have to treat customers nicely. A can of coke is $5.50 - this is beyond ridiculous!! The bad service and overpriced drinks left a bad feeling unfortunately.
Great ambiance great food. Thanks for the food recommendations and honoring our reservation with a window seat & nice street view. Would come here again!
Mediocre food and they don’t really honor reservations. We waited 45 minutes to be seated post our reservation time. Really loud inside - totally avoidable.
Our server was awesome! She was very attentive, great customer service and her recommendations were spot on!! The food there is bomb!
I've eaten here a number of times. First I called because our meeting ran long and we were running late. The young lady said no problem and we appreciated that. The rice paper rolls were excellent but the lemongrass chicken was overdone and dried. I was a little surprised. Great service, just dissapointed about the lemon grass chicken.
one of my favorite spots in DTLA. menu is unique and interesting. food is always well prepared. service is prompt, friendly and professional. highly recommend reservations.
Fantastic restaurant, excellent food, great service. I will be back for sure!
Shared plates but large portions. Everything was AMAZING! Braised beef is out of this world
Food was good
This was THE BEST meal of 2020! We can’t wait to come back. The service was fantastic the food was so delicious and every dish got better. We didn’t know where to start so our server gave us his suggestions and just knocked it out of the park!
Terrific wait staff working under challenging conditions since he had to serve so many tables. Delicious food generous wine pour made for a fun afternoon and visit to the jewelry Mart
Loved the place. Very flavorful food. Great staff, gave excellent service
Had a wonderful time. Will definitely be back.
Yay. Guys are awesome
Extremely delicious and interesting food. Friendly service. Would definitely recommend.
I love LS, eat there twice a month, but last Sunday evening staff were terrible.
I love this place. The only thing to watch out for is the AC. Middle of winter and it was colder in the restaurant than outside. Everyone had their winter coats on IN the restaurant. But, after we asked the staff to turn it down the temperature evened out. Thanks for a lovely evening. :)
Everything!! Was awesome!! The atmosphere the service the food the beverage the desert!!!!
The papaya salad and lemongrass chicken was outstanding.
Always enjoy coming to Little Sister. The food is delicious and the service is on point
LOVED everything we ordered! We were 5 people, so we had plenty of variety to taste and enjoy. I suggest going with a group, for this reason. Our server was exceptionally clear and understanding about food allergies and avoidances (shellfish, peanuts).
We actually had theater tickets at the Music Center for the evening. We parked at the Music Center, and very easily walked both ways. Of note, the way back to the Music Center was "uphill".
My only complaint was that the music volume was way too loud, for a 4:00 PM meal. Otherwise, I would have given 5 stars.
I had been to this place a few yrs back when it first opened and was very impressed with it. A lot of restaurants tend to get lazy and let things fall through the cracks after a few years so I usually get a little nervous going back to a restaurant after a few yrs. This place is still serving very delicious food in and has managed to maintain a great ambiance in the restaurant. Good place for a date or small groups given how small it is. Definitely recommend making a reservation.
Easily the best meal I’ve ever had!! We will be back for more
One of my absolute favorite spot in DTLA. You really can't go wrong with anything you order by I highly recommend the dumplings, spring rolls, lemongrass beef over vermicilli noodles.
The waitress was patient, attentive and gave great recommendations. The food was exceptional and different! Totally recommend!
My parents were visiting from a small town in the Midwest and I wanted to introduce them to a type of food they hadn't tried before. We were all blown away. The restaurant is loud and busy (because it's good!) so it's not the right choice for an intimate catch-up. Thank you for a lovely experience!
Love this place. Great food, service and vibe with great music.
We spent 3 nights in LA during which time we ate at 6 downtown restaurants. This was our favorite hands down. The food was GREAT--it was interesting, portions were generous, and prices were moderate by LA standards. My only criticism is that it is LOUD. I wish they would install some sound dampening fabrics or something so it would be easier to converse with the people you are dining with. But noisy or not, if we go back to LA we will definitely visit Little Sister again. Highly recommended.
The servers at this restaurant were so unbelievably rude. The woman server looked like she wanted us to know how bored she was with her job. The guy server spilled something on my friend’s pants and never apologized or said anything. We might be over to overlook the bad service if the food was great but at best the food was okay. The shaky shaky beef was dry. But the worse part of that lunch was the price. Totally not worth it!
Food was good as always. But was disappointed to have made my reservation 2 weeks in advance and got pushed multiple times for what seemed like pushy people who flooded the doors and caused the hostess to seat them first. I was sitting back patiently waiting for my reservation. Other than that, all was good
The service was amazing. The snowy sake on the menu perfectly complemented our dumpling and beef dishes all thanks to our wait staffer’s recommendation. The atmosphere was lively, and we really enjoyed our experience.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the downtown area. The sauces are decadent without being too heavy and just the right amount of salt. The service is always superb with the staff being willing to make suggestions and provide suggestions on dishes with the intimate knowledge of the menu. It is a cozy restaurant with a great ambiance.
They only serve beer and wine, so this is not swanky cocktail place and the seats are mostly wood and metal so it can be a bit uncomfortable. This is important because with how delicious the food is you will want to sit and savor.
Obsessed. Get the SGV banh mi
Service was terrible, took 45 minutes to get 4 steamed dumplings. Gut the food comped but still ...
Amazing food! I loved everything we ordered. Super tasty. I was especially a big fan of the black rice clay pot and also the fish congee. Huge chunks of fish. Great value.
Great vibe amazing music and service was spot on!!
Excellent food and very nice place, not expensive. But too loud music
I've been to this restaurant 3 times in the past 6 months and it just keeps getting better. Firstly, the food is inventive and executed perfectly. I've tried most dishes on the menu, but still have a few more to sample. The pork belly is always a favorite, as are the Efu noodles. This time we tried the hotpot and the salted cod fried rice and was very impressed. The ambiance is lively and fun, without being pretentious and the service was impeccable. All the wait staff are very attentive, but I have to give a shout out to Nikki (I think that was her name) - We ordered the dumplings and they were a little cold in the middle. Nikki immediately apologized, took them back and within 5 minutes brought us some new piping hot ones.. And they were delicious. Nikki comped us for that dish and comped us a free dessert. She really went above and beyond our expectations and was professional and polite throughout. I really love this restaurant. It ticks all the boxes and is very reasonable when it comes to the bill. I can't recommend enough. Thank you and keep up the great work!
