We source the most sustainable options available to us, because caring for our planet drives the choices on our menu. We work closely with farmers and fisherman to buy only what is in season and readily available.
In short, The Little Octopus is Sarah Gavigan, owner and Chef. A nickname given to her when she was young by her mentor for “always having her tentacles moving and always changing colors.”

We had a freezing cold experience. We froze at the bar, they took forever to bring us warm drinks, they took forever to deliver our food (simple food), they never asked us how we were, we ate freezing, congeled food because we were starving, we will never go back. Obviously they had some type of crisis -- but they never told us. They place wasn't even packed; the staff were just very grumpy and disorganized. Note to staff, manager: Close on Jan 1st if you can't handle the "pressure" folks... I rarely write negative reviews, but this place deserves it. Wowsie - Awful on several fronts. (Yes, it had potential, but you can't fall in love with potential -- or other people's reviews from long ago...)
Such amazing flavors!! I could have easily ordered everything off the menu! Everything was perfection. From the cucumber tapa, to the wagu. Can’t wait to go back!

Our server was great. Bartender was rude.
My husband and I split the long beans with black bean sauce and crushed peanuts (the sauce was really just black beans), the broccoli with sesame, the koji chicken.
While these sounds like basic dishes, the flavors in them were phenomenal! Throughout the entire meal, my husband and I raved about each bite. We loved the main meal so much that we got the flourless chocolate cake for dessert, which was good, but not rich enough for my tastes. However, my husband enjoyed it and he's not much of a chocolate lover.
Overall, our meal at Little Octopus was a 10/10.
We had a great meal on this visit, like the others we’ve enjoyed at Little Octopus. This time we were also very impressed with the extraordinary service we received since some staff did not report in due to not feeling well, there was only one server on duty — Larissa — and we still got superb service! Everyone on duty chipped in to make our meal and those of other dinners as wonderful as ever. To us, a sign of a really great restaurant.
The food was great — try the kale salad and the the seviche, both really good.
And if you’re lucky, Larissa might serve you and make some good wine recommendations to go with your food (as would, I’m sure) the other staff.
Menu felt awkward. Recommended pattern of ordering the small plates is ok in design, if only the kitchen could bring them in the order they suggested. Drinks were late (and one was forgotten). Food dearly overpriced.
I was really looking forward to dining at Little Octopus, but must say that I was very disappointed. I received shockingly poor service and all of the food was over salted and over seasoned. it took over 15 minutes to get my drink, and after 20 minutes of waiting for our food, the waiter informed us that the kitchen was out of something we had ordered. It took another 30 minutes for the bill to be delivered and for our cards to be run. Next time I am in the Gulch I will avoid this restaurant.
The menu has changed a lot since we were here last year. We were unimpressed with the options and didn’t love anything we ate. We came to Little Octopus in May of 2017 and at that time it was one of our favorite meals we’d had in Nashville. Hopefully it can get back on track.
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants in Nashville. They have changed the menu TOTALLY. Took off octopus, empanadas and other favorites... unfortunately we won’t be going back with the new menu options. Doesn’t compare to original food :(
The food was excellent. The waitress was the best. The decor is superb. Location is perfect. It is the place I want to talk about about rave about and post about. I want to tell all my friends about it.
But I guess when the hostess calls the manager to tell on me taking too many pictures of the interior of the place at 5pm right when they open with only 2 guests in the restaurant it becomes a nuisance. I was told that taking pictures of the place is not allowed unless I have a reservation. And I did a reservation. Be sure I will never tag this place specifically anywhere esp to all the followers that want to know where this food and this place is.
The servers need to remember they are in Nashville. Us locals don’t take kindly to not so nice servers..
We loved every food item we got! The service was fast and food presentation was awesome. We will definitely be back.
Little Octopus was a great way to kickoff our birthday girls trip to Nashville! We went here the first night of our trip and we had a wonderful experience from our service, our drinks, and our food. For drinks we had the aperol spritz and the matcha spritz to drink, for food we had the broccoli, long beans, beets, and the chicken which was all very tasty but I’d have to say the beets and chicken were some of the best I’ve had. They’ve got a great menu and everything truly sounded good. The service was wonderful, attentive, knowledgeable of the menu, and very friendly and welcoming. We were first timers visiting from Seattle and our waitress took the time to right down all the places we should go. She also told the manager that it was our birthday and they brought us a complimentary flourless chocolate cake (like a yummy dense brownie!) with a pomegranate sauce and of course candles on top! Another delicious part of the meal. Overall, I highly suggest you visit this place and I will be telling when my friends that they need to go here when they visit!
This was my second time there and it was even better than the first! We had the oysters, mushrooms, the beef and broccoli. The mushrooms were so good we got a second order. The only negatives are that I wish they had a pino Grigio and I felt the $ of the broccoli was a little steep for some roasted broccoli. Other than that everything was excellent.
Food was good, service was bad. Restaurant was empty.
Nothing normal on the menu, very limited options, overpriced. Food tasted good but small portions and too “out there” for us
This is a cool, hipster vibe brunch place in the Gulch area of Nashville. They had a creative take on brunch with their french toast with marspone and "candid" sage plus their eggs "any way" with grilled cherry tomatoes and labneh. Delicious! They offered "craft" brunch cocktails which looked unique although I didn't try it. I loved the coffee served in glass mugs -- literally the right temperature, served elegantly and it was flavorful, unlike some breakfast places that skimp on good coffee. I thought it was worth the value -- a little pricier than some brunch places but you're paying for the cool hipster vibe and unique take on cuisine.
Overall great place to check out. Our food and drinks were fantastic!
The new menu is amazing, & service was fantastic. We had the picked vegetables, the broccoli, mushrooms, Koji chicken and the trout (plus several other dishes), and everything was stellar. Our server Rebecca made some great suggestions and she was a true professional.

This restaurant has such a fun vibe and it’s so beautiful! The service was incredible. The service staff were all around helpful and made it fun! The food is outstanding. Loved every tapa style dish we had! A+
Brunch was amazing
The trio starter while good looking was lack luster with flavor. The main dish we ordered was the chicken. It was extremely dry. 26$ is a lot o spend on dry chicken. They were nice and comped the main since I told them about the quality.
Sadly.....Food was not as good as last time. Trout good, wagu tough, broccoli and green beans not very good, mussels and oysters ok
Terrific ambiance and menu. Was really excited since brunch dining is a favorite. Started with an insect in my cocktail. No big deal. But server had zero sense of expedience to correct. All food arrived. Asked for the replacement cocktail twice. Food was okay. Crispy rice was not crispy. Chilaquiles (vegan and so much potential) soggy within minutes. Cornbread was delicious. Back to the drink, did arrive (30+ wait) and charged for the cocktail.
I had the trout entree. It was extremely fishy in taste - the sauce that accompanied it essentially tasted like Ketchup. There are so many great places to eat in Nashville. This place was not worth the over priced dish.
The service was great, the cocktails delightful, and the food was tasty. In my mind the value just wasn't there. I don't mind splurging on a nice dinner, but I spent over $150 on a dinner for two and bought french fries on the way home because we were still hungry.
Went for brunch on a Sunday with 5 women. Had the bottomless mimosas for $16 (great deal) and the potato with salmon and fried capers (sooooooo good) at a reasonable price. Would recommend to try. Waiter was not very attentive but we had a great time and would dine here again.
I've been wanting to go to Little Octopus for a while now and was so excited to finally try it. Turns out that the decor and vibe are way better than the service and the food. We tried almost the whole menu, and while everything was pretty good, there was nothing that we'd crave to have again. The highlights of the meal were definitely the appetizers. The sides and mains were underwhelming. The service was probably the most disappointing as they took forever to bring us drinks and when we asked for a slight alteration to one drink the manager basically barked at us that we should just try something else. I'd come back to sit at the bar and have apps before heading out for the night but would definitely pick a different spot for a special occasion dinner.
Koji Chicken is close to the best chicken in a restaurant that I believe we have had in a while. The ceviche trio is also excellent. The spices on the Mushrooms ( Double Fried ) and Wax Beans was more than we expected.
The service all around was horrendous. At the bar we ordered and was charged for top shelf mixed drinks and were given well crafted drinks - the bartender did remake the drinks but it was only after pointing out that we were charged for the top shelf liquor. The waiter was generally unavailable and delivered our meals without silverware. After asking for it twice (once when the first course came out and again when the second course came out), it finally came after the food was cold. Additionally, the waiter spilled a glass of wine while putting the food onto the table getting one of our party wet. The wine was replaced but we were charged for both the spilled wine and the replacement. There were two couples and an individual and we tried to split the bill in two based on what was ordered and were told they could only split the bill "based on a fraction". Asking then to split the bill into 3/5 and 2/5, we were told they could only do it 50/50 or evenly into thirds.
The food itself was ok. The waiter said it was a three course meal (ceviche, appetizer, and main) and that each of the courses were small so we should order all three. By the time the main course came out our entire table barely touched any of the mains. The ceviche was good, but the appetizers and mains were extremely salty and bland. The sides were also incredibly disappointing. Overall the worst experience I have had dining in Nashville which is too bad because the ambiance is really wonderful.
The food was salty and overpriced. We got the trout and the chicken, which were both bad. The vegan Caesar was pretty good but it was very small. Service wasn’t good, even though the restaurant was pretty much empty on a Thursday evening. I would not recommend.
I was recommended this place by a local. It was a nice change from all the heavy foods we had been eating during our Nashville trip. I highly recommend the trio and the creme brulee! I would high recommend this place to foodies and for date night.
I have been to Little Octopus many times and have never been dissatisfied. Everything is superb. The food is prepared fresh to order and comes out as it is done, so don’t go if you’re crunched for time. Relax and enjoy the savory and delicious food over one of their wonderful cocktails while you wait. It is so worth it. It is a bit on the pricey side, but there are ways to save money at happy hour and is well priced for sharing with a group of people.
Great service, warm modern ambiance, interesting mix and match menu. Food was way too salty and my fillet even came with a pile of salt.
Went for brunch. My companion had the French toast. She was extremely pleased with it. The candied sage along with marscapone and blueberries were wonderful. I opted for cauliflower Sammy due to dietary preferences. Never knew cauliflower could be so overwhelmingly spicy. Should have asked about all ingredients. Service was great however the overall experience just didn’t leave us as blown away I had hoped for/reviewed. Perhaps that’s better realized thru dinner service.

Our rule of thumb when traveling is not to eat at the same place twice. Little Octopus impressed us so much last year that we had to go back again. Highly recommend sitting at the kitchen counter for a great experience as well. Think this place will stay on our ‘must-go’ list every time we’re in Nashville.
As I walked into the restaurant I liked the ambience, the spacing and color choices made me at ease. The host was welcoming and invited me to seating options, which included seating at chefs bar. Once I made my seating choice the waitress came over, introduced herself and provided top notch service. OMG the food was delicious. I had the Koji chicken herb salad and beet with fennel, goat cheese, chickpea. It was soooo good. It's a half chicken with skin on, done nice brown and Crispy, yet meat tender, moist and well flavored. I actually licked my fingers, yes in the restaurant. Of course the beet salad went perfectly with chicken and the pleasant surprise was the chickpeas were crispy with a crunch. Don't know how they were done, but great job. And to top it all off, the chef stopped by my table to welcome me and get instant feedback. Amaaaaazing....great choice and a perfect end to a visit to places unknown. Thank you!
Delicious and unpretentious! The only thing little about LO is the size of the space - flavors are full, portions are plenty and service was beyond!!
