Despite us being the only table with customers for the majority of our visit, our meal took 2 hours because of the wait time for each course. 5 of us did dine around. The shrimp appetizer was excellent however the haddock gratin main course was just ok as it lacked in flavour.
Our server was awkward. He made strange jokes and we often saw him casually sitting at the bar. We had to ask for drinks and refills every time.
Some of the best service we've had! Will was incredibly knowledgeable, personable and read our group well. Drinks were excellent, food was both beautiful to look at and tasted amazing. 10/10 would recommend!
Our first time there, service was excellent, food was great, will return in the future
I and my guests had good experience before with this restaurant with their previous menu and at lunchtime. This time was dinner. Room was cold and drafty. We ordered steaks. Thin, not cooked to order and presentation/taste was blah for the price we paid. Next door restaurant serves a similar dish at lower price but more importantly much tastier and cooked as the diner orders.
Feb Dine Around Menu was delicious!
After this being our go-to restaurant for special occasions New Years eve was a disappointment. Although it was quiet the service, while friendly was not well timed. Two dinners of haddock were served on a bed of mystery oily mush. Equally surprised and disappointed we expressed to our waitress who agreed and reported back to our table the manager or chef also agreed, however, that was pretty much it. Not wishing to ruin the rest of New Years we went onto another restaurant to enjoy a meal and the rest of the evening. Normally we love Little Fish and highly recommended it to many tourists. However beyond the what one expects to be served, a well prepared dish, the lack of customer appreciation is possibly what will prevent us from returning.
Good time. We booked at the little Fish but ended up going upstairs to get a better wine selection
We went with a group of 5 before a concert for the 5$ Happy Hour. Fantastic deal! We enjoyed an assortment of mussels, dressed frites, and 1$ oysters along with with 5$ beer and wine options. Tremendous value!
The seafood was all great quality but the risotto wasn’t cooked properly and I don’t understand oysters not served on ice.
Love the new decor and service was great. Almost got frostbite going to the bathroom though.
Absolutely tremendous dining experience. Food was over the top. Scallops were grilled perfectly, haddock was fresh and also superbly prepared. The only negative was the wine was a little overpriced, but hey, a business has to make a profit.
We sat in the upstairs restaurant. Staff and food were excellent. Very accommodating. Had a great time overall. Will definitely return.
Halibut was tough! Ridiculous for a noted seaside town much less a top end restaurant. I can get light , flakey halibut in Flat Rock, NC, a foothills mountain town. For me, the most disappointing meal of our entire week stay in Nova Scotia/PEI. My wife’s scallops were very good which is the only reason I didn’t send mine back. And the ambiance and service was good. Maybe Hurricane Dorian the previous week affected the fresh catch.
Food are greasy and salty, not recommended
We had a lovely time. Excellent, light, summery food. We had delish oysters, shrimp tacos, and cashew crusted fish and chips. Service was outstanding. Loved going during off hours when they’re not busy. One of our best experiences in Halifax.
I took my family visiting from Montreal as they wanted oysters .
The experience was dreadful.!!!!
Staff inexperienced . Meal quality very poor . Drink ( martini) we had to send back and the second one was no better.
I ordered chicken and sent it back as it was old and disgusting and the Manager never even offered an alternative.
The waitress dropped the oyster s off and did not identify them as to where they were from and when asked she did not know.
The halibut was poor quality .
I was so disappointed as I have gone to your Five fishermen many times. I think you need to make some big changes as I would not return nor recommend it as it is currently
Shrimp in the spaghetti were tiny!
Waitress was excellent.
The kids burger was not followed in terms of toppings: they forgot the ketchup.
Book in advance. Don't just show up. You might be disappointed.
Why do they close so early: 9 PM on a Monday...
Too much garlic in the Seafood Sagatinni.
Corn in Scallops overcooked.
Server was disinterested and non-attentive
Very fast service.. so this isn’t a great place if you want to spend some time with someone.. chatting.. music wasn’t great. But food was fantastic
Pricey but worth it. Good quality food. Server was a little bit of inexperienced but the manager was great.
Everything was great. The food, the service, the atmosphere. The only negative comment was the mussel bar was empty on both occasions we went up to it.
Loved the ambiance - booths along stone back wall plus simple and contemporary furnishings. Halibut was delicious! Cooked to perfection and loved the all you can eat mussel bar included with entree. Excellent service. A real gem and reasonably priced. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!
Do not try to make a reservation! We made a reso on OpenTable and when we arrived it was closed!
We had a lovely meal before going to an event that evening. The food and service was great, as always. The only thing is when we were in booth, every time the door would open there was a cold draft so most of the time there I had to have my coat on. Otherwise, it was a delicious meal.
There was a mixed up when I arrive about the restaurant I booked. Although I booked Little Fish, I was escorted to Five Fishermen without confirming. This was quickly resolve, but a quick confirmation at time of entering the restaurant would have avoid the confusion.
The Oysters were delicious and very well presented with delicious cured cucumbers and horseradish. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the cashew garnish gave the dish a nice crunch.
Mains come with complimentary mussels bar, unfortunately it was not setup until I had finished my appetizer and main. I still had them after my meal, just wished it would have been setup earlier. On the other hand, they made a fresh batch when I requested it, so they were very fresh and tasty.
Will definitely be back next time I am in town!
The best lobster we have ever had, the juiciest, the freshest, the sweetest and we have travelled the globe. The fresh oysters and clam chowder not to be sniffed at. Kudos to the chef and staff especially our waiter for making the meal sp memorable.
We discovered Little Fish last year because of burger week. This years offering was obviously a precooked patty, cold, and overcooked dry shrimp not tasting any jalapeño and very dry. Was supposed to have goat cheese but not found.
We explained to server but she said the kitchen was overwhelmed. It was 4:30 and not busy. Overall dissappointing
The service was excellent. And the mussel station was a nice touch. However, she could simply not make up for the lackluster food (mostly fatty brisket, flavourless creamed haddock and very dry/old rum cake) and absence of items on the menu, which we found out after our plates were brought to the table (baked potatoes and no bread?). We were compted a free dessert and we noted that the adjacent table had their entrees covered. Not certain what was going on but we made a mistake eating there. We had hoped for a more gourmet, romantic dinner as we were visiting from out of town and without our daughter. We had better food in most of the pubs we stopped in on to sample their beers. We wish them luck in pulling it together. Again, our waitress was lovely, but the resto really let us down. Cheers. Tony and Laura
Excellent venue - service and food very good. No complaints.
A very enjoyable business lunch; good food and attentive service.
Great service. Excellent food.
Was there for supper on New Year’s Eve. We had oysters as well as the beef tenderloin and the New Years 3 course, everything was amazing and well priced. For 2$ oysters and everything else we would definitively return!
We had the best oysters, appetisers and service here--fantastic!
The restaurant was quiet for a Friday night. Great selection of wine, spirits and craft beer. The meal was very close to perfect. Blackened Halibut and Tenderloin were fabulous. The service was outstanding
Have been now twice- great fish and chips and fish tacos!
Really enjoyed the meal and Carly our waitress as we know her. Visited from Quebec - would return.
Service was great! Nice atmosphere.
But Southwest Chicken and Shrimp was very disappointing. Plain, not tasty. No real flavour to it. Needed more spice, oils, to help enhance flavours. An amateur plate. Not worth $28! Recommend taking it off the menu.
As well, no ‘real’ coffee. Only pods. And no decaf. Fresh brewed recommended.
Beautiful spot to enjoy a bite on the patio! You can’t go wrong with the fish tacos :)
Visiting for the weekend and enjoyed an amazing dinner on the patio. Small, quaint restaurant.
Food was excellent however, the service was a bit slow. Waited close to an hour for our appetizer, then the meal came out shortly after
Nice cosy restaurant. Not a large menu, but enough to choose from. Went for the oysters during happy hour and stayed for dinner. Excellent fish and beef. Would return.
