About Little Fish

Little Fish was founded in the mid-'90s to the delight of Queen Village foodies and pretty much all Philadelphians who give a hoot about great seafood. Chef Chadd Jenkins purchased the long-established BYOB in September 2011 which he had been overseeing as the Chef de Cuisine since 2008. Convention says that when you purchase a successful business you maintain it. Little Fish continues to offer flavors and daring combinations to the recognition of Bon Appétit magazine — 3rd Best New Seafood Restaurant in the USA — and the delight of The New York Times. Little Fish recently swam up stream and reopened in a new location, a stone's throw from its original location where Little Fish continues to earn accolades from national and local press. Most importantly, Little Fish continues to feed old friends and serve new fans every day.

Little Fish was delicious. We did the Sunday pre fixe menu. There are about 10 tables and you are served 5-6 courses. Every course was delicious! The chefs did such a great job with textures and flavors! They even made foods I usually don’t like, like kale and mashed potato taste delicious! All of the staff was awesome! It is a very small, intimate place. Don’t expect the restaurant to look extravagant, but the food is the main attraction.

I have been meaning to try Little Fish for some time, and after dining there, am kick I myself for not going sooner. Everything was amazing! The ambiance, the service and most importantly, the food. We started with the lobster bites, which provided a wonderfully delicious start to our meal. We then followed up with the tuna (raw preparation) and octopus (prepared like nashville hot chicken), which were different, but equally delightful. We then had the salmon and black cod, which were prepared in a way to showcase their freshness and taste. Although we weren’t jazzed about the dessert offering, we just know to concentrate our future Little Fish meals on what they do best - seafood. We look forward to returning, again and again and again ...

When we arrived, we realized that we had been there before. We remembered the prior visit as very ordinary. This time, we were very impressed. While the menu is very small, and tends toward spicy foods, the choices we made were outstanding. We shared the scallops appetizer, which was a dish of melt in your mouth scallops with roasted beets and a beet sauce. It was delicious. For out entrees, we each chose the pan roasted halibut, which was also delicious. It was served over fingerling potatoes and greens. The dessert, only one option, was a rosemary and olive cake with almonds and a lemon sorbet. The perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Our servers were very attentive without being intrusive. We are planning to return in the future.

I have never had a bad dish at this resturant. They had me liking spicy dishes that I would NEVER taste. I would recommend sampling everything everyone orders - ITS JUST THAT GOOD!

The complexity of tastes was simply a parade of flavor going across your tongue with everything you ate. Amazing!

I went with a friend for the Sunday prix-fixe dinner at this quaint BYOB restaurant. It required reservation a month in advance. The menu was not known ahead of time. So each course was surprise. While it was amazing to watched the 3 chefs worked in the relatively small kitchen to prepare 20+ portions, it was equally amazing to see the few waiters moved around the small dining area to serve and explain each course. The presentation and the flavors of the food were good. The portion was just right. I was especially surprised by how accommodating they are to modify the courses according to the diners' dietary restrictions. Little Fish, big flavors!

Sorry to say we were disappointed. The selection of side dishes for vegetables or salad was non-existent. There was only one choice for dessert. The fish, halibut, was a nice thick piece, fully filleted but was over sauced. The'vegetables' that supposedly accompanied the fish were more like garnishes and were soaking in the sauce. It was not a dining experience that I wish to repeat.

Little Fish used to be one of my favorites, but I had been a bit underwhelmed on my last visit so hadn't eaten there in a while. This time they rebounded back into the top tier of my favorite Philly restaurants. Not only was each course outstanding, but serving sizes seem to have doubled from what I remember receiving before. Everything was so delicious and each course had a unique twist on flavors and ingredients. Service was spot-on, friendly and professional, courses were well-timed. Prices may seem a bit high by Philly standards, but BYOB and quality of what you get makes it a great value. If you like seafood, you will love Little Fish.

We dined on Sunday and experienced an amazing tasting menu at this BYOB. Every dish was unique in flavor profile and presentation combining surprising tastes and textures. They seamlessly accommodated my no meat diet. We enjoyed the service, the noise level was very loud, my only complaint.

Enjoyed a very good meal. The preparation and presentation were also excellent. The only negative was we were rushed through our coffee because some was waiting for our table. I left half of mine. We were only there for two hours and 10 minutes for appetizers, and main course, a bottle of wine and coffee. I didn’t think we were there an unreasonable amount of time and we arrive for our reservation precisely at 5:45 pm, our scheduled time.

We had an 8:30 reservation and didn't have to wait at all. Service was very good as was the food. Got the poached pear dessert, the only thing I could say is the pear could have been poached more. It was pretty hard. Other than that, a lovely experience.

This local neighborhood gem exceeded all expectations. The food was delicious and so fresh. I loved the tuna and my husband loved his halibut. The small dishes were amazing too. The oysters were fresh. We love that it’s BYOB. We will definitely be coming back. The service was quick and excellent as well. A++ experience.

The food at Little Fish is delicious and carefully crafted. That being said, some of the creative dishes were minimized by the very small portion size (especially for the cost)... We wanted more! The appetizers and first courses were outstanding. Dessert was a little less exciting.

This review should be five star but there was a glitch.
Had reservations for my husbands birthday. The restaurant is tiny with a full view of the kitchen. The chef and sous were hard at work clearly preparing each dish specifically as ordered. There were two servers - perhaps needed more. We were seated in the front corner and given water immediately.
10 minutes later the waitress arrived to go over the menu. Another 10 minutes she came back for our order.
Appetizers came; Lobster and scallops. Three scallops were cooked to perfection and perhaps the sweetest I have ever had. The lobster was two "bites" on a crisp rice tortilla, topped with wasabi and radish - heaven. The waitress never stopped at for table to check on us. They did stop at the tables next to us but because of the flow in the room never got to our corner.
Entree came; Madai (which was actually a first-course item) and Halibut. The halibut was charred beautifully and was served with a mix of in-season veggies. The Madai was not so good. Thinly sliced Madai with Foie Gras over a bed of greens. The Madai had been seared on one side and served cold (unexpected). The Foie Gras was cut into large pieces and also served cold. The dressing included roasted pistachios and had great flavor. However, I could not chew the fish, it was so tough.
But what makes for the four-star review was the fact that I could not get the waitresses attention. Both waitresses were at tables on either side of us but walked away as soon as I raised my hand or said, "excuse me". It took so long to get her attention that my husband was finished eating by the time she asked if I would like something else. We didn't want to wait the time involved in a new entree - so I left hungry. :(
They did take the price of the Madai off the bill but I am still disappointed in the service. I would like to try it again but Little Fish isn't in our neighborhood.
