We went for Birthday celebration. Food was great but I got a little sick. Not sure what I reacted to as we ate a lot of great stuff. I’d still go there but maybe not order the cookie dough desert.
Really lovely inventive food. Nice cocktails, too. Very friendly service. Servings are usually small, which I appreciate.
The food was good, but overpriced for what it was. The server recommended we order 2-3 plates per person, but we found that 6 plates was more than plenty for our party of four. The drinks seemed to be made with very little alcohol content. The room was very dimly lit.
This is a solid 5 star restaurant, but they're getting a 4 from me for consistent missteps in service for my last few visits. I can't say enough about the food, particularly the burger and noodle dishes. The wine list is well curated and adventurous without being too esoteric or show-offy. I've been in for business dinners, and most recently a birthday dinner. The floor staff has a bad habit of disappearing when they get cut and leaving it up to the guests to figure out who their new server is. Oh you're leaving? Thanks for the service! Maybe we'll go to the bar for our next round? Is this man dropping our check our new server? Perhaps he has a name and wants to say hello to his new table? I shrugged it off the first visit but now I see its a recurring problem. I assume this is a pool house, but there are ways to make the guests feel more taken care of. Lastly, we called ahead for a bottle of prosecco to be brought out upon arrival for our birthday guest. The host confirmed over the phone, but the bottle never came. We ended up enjoying some sparkling rose at Brick & Mortar afterward instead.
Food was tasty and service was good, but we had to yell over the din of the background music and noise, we were all exhausted after 90 minutes! Young crowd, we were among the oldest in the place. I'd say try to go when it's quieter..we were there midweek after work and it was packed. It was a little pricey ($100) considering we didn't order many dishes (4) plus one dessert that was too sweet - and only one of us had one glass of wine and others were drinking tea. I'd maybe recommend to my kids but not my friends!
First time at Little Donkey — blown away by the delicious food and great vibe. Wonderful service.
Really fun and tasty small plates. Nice flow in terms of service. Loved it!
Fabulous food with a diverse selection from both the raw bar and tapas. Highly recommend a visit.
A variety-filled menu with lots of options. Our server really knew the menu well and she guided to figure out how many of the small plates were right for us. The food was delicious and fresh and very flavorful. We really loved the caviar sandwich and the radicchio salad with cherries. But honestly, everything was so good. Cocktails menu was very fun!
Great service at this charming Boston spot.
Maybe; the food and drinks were pretty good although the chicken sandwich was fattier than previous versions I had had. The service was slow, and while our waitress was nice, she wasn't terribly interested in moving efficiently even though we had a toddler and gave multiple cues that we needed to move things along.
Amazing food and cocktails, great service, lively atmosphere. Looking forward to returning!
Food was very interesting and all tasty. Steak came out slightly cold, not sure if that was how it was supposed to be. Our waitress was amazing!! Pricey for the amount of food you get
The food was fantastic! Especially loved the Vietnamese crepe!
Too dark and noisy. Food was ok.
Food was unique and interesting. Service was lacking, no water from server even after I ordered a cocktail until a busser walked by and noticed. aside from a greeting and taking our order, our waitress didn't seem very interested in us, except for asking us if we'd like an egg on a dish which meant a 2 dollar upcharge. I mentioned it was a birthday on the reservation and it was not noted by the staff. Could have been more personable.
Fantastic food (turkey kofta and burger), fantastic decor and friendly staff.
Delicious small plates. We loved the Vietnamese Bologna, BLT lettuce Wraps, Mexican Dan Dan Noodles, Soft-shelled Crab sandwich and the rolls. Friendly service. It's way too loud in there though...
Well they got rid of my favorite fish (fish biryani) and of the few dishes that would work for me (being pescatarian with shrimp allergy) they were unable to de-shrimp for me. So disappointing.
Always a pleasure to meet my son at the little donkey and order a bunch of different things to share. Once a Bostonian now living in LA, this restaurant is our choice when in town.
The food, service and vibe were all wonderful, however the table that I was seated at dampened the whole experience. The table for 2 was the last on the wall of tables in the back of the restaurant and my seat faced a blocked view of the kitchen and across from that an open door to a small grungy area that was used for breaks where staff would eat or just hang out. It certainly dampened the experience that Little Donkey is known to offer. I was going to ask to move, but my guest was uncomfortable doing so.
I will go back but will refuse that seat as should anyone else who dines there.
Brought my parents here, who were visiting for the weekend. We had such a fun time sharing small plates (and some were actually quite big!). The food was delicious, great quality, and had so many unique flavor profiles. We took our waitress’s recommendations on the menu and were very pleased. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Amazing food, atmosphere, and service. Dishes came out at the perfect pace so we could focus on a dish at a time and were never left wanting the next one to come out faster.
So good we went back the next night!
Excellent food in a very noisy room with below adequate service, especially at this price point.
Great tasty food and friendly service
It was very dark and loud in the restaurant. Our waiter also disappeared partway through the evening and never came back — we just had to flag down other staff who also seemed confused. My food was very oily and not great, but my boyfriend really enjoyed his. But overall, it was definitely not worth the high price. I also ended up getting some kind of stomach illness from the food.
The lamb bacon lettuce wraps were just a bit too gamey tasting, but our other dish the crab avocado toast was delicious!
My friend and I dined at the bar and had the absolute best experience. Our two bartenders were extremely attentive and knowledgeable and provided excellent menu recommendations. I think the thing that made our experience as good as it was, though, was how passionate our servers were about both the restaurant and the food. It really shined through in their service and in the ways they made sure we were taken care of. Fantastic visit and looking forward to coming back again.
Every dish we ordered was excellent and each was a different taste sensation. We ordered 5 plates for the two of us and left satisfied but not stuffed.
The food and service were amazing! My wife and I loved all the dishes we ordered and look forward to going back. My only complaint was that the seating was very tight. Whenever someone got up during the meal they would have to slide the table over in order to get out. I saw at least 5 other tables doing the same thing. Would be nice if they you didn’t hit elbows with the people dining next to you.
Got a bit dark in the restaurant and couldn't read the menu! Otherwise amazing time.
Taking my daughter to a Harvard basketball camp & met my niece there for an early dinner! Excellent!
The food was very good - lots of interesting dishes - wait staff very helpful.
As always, the food was fantastic. The service was very slow at this time (10pm on a Monday), however.
Little Donkey is truly a special place. Would come again if visiting Boston.
First time visiting Little Donkey. We had heard great things about it. Everything was very good. Casual atmosphere, busy night. Drinks were on the smaller side. Wine selection was limited. Prices were reasonable. Food was generally creative and very flavorful with something for everyone. I think this is a great place for locals looking for a cut above fast casual yet not upscale or stuffy. Our waitress was warm, friendly and attentive.
Excellent, as usual. It's our go to spot for bringing out of town friends, because it always impresses! They are also extremely sensitive about food allergies, which we appreciate. Delish!
I prefer earlier in the evening before it becomes quite so noisy.
Cocktails were amazing and the food was delicious. We had 5 share plates between us which was perfect.
