Little Chicago Chophouse
Welcome to Canterbury Park's Little Chicago Chophouse!
During the Prohibition era, Shakopee was a place where Twin Cities residents retreated for underground bars, widespread gambling and thick steaks. That reputation earned the city a nickname: Little Chicago.
Little Chicago Chophouse is your home for specialty cocktails and thick steaks, just steps from the Canterbury Card Casino floor.
Steaks were good. Steaks not prepared as ordered but manager was very courteous and polite. The steaks were then cooked as ordered and the manager comp'd the entire meal so we were content. Overall good.
We split their ribeye special on Saturday night. It was one of the best steaks we ever had. The staff was courteous and made sure everything was refilled timely.
The food was very good but the ambience and service are mediocre. Wasn’t expecting the ambience to be great because it is inside Canterbury- but they could do much better. Add a door to get in and make it more private. The wait staff didn’t provide any plates for bread and were very slow in taking away dirty dishes- even after the main course arrived. They did take away silverware and not replenish it/ so had to go looking for a fork from another table to eat my $30 steak. The beet salad was the best
Food was absolutely delicious!!
It was a surprise for us to find a restaurant with such delicious food & we totally enjoyed eating every bite of it
It was a fun place. Great food and service. Just pretty close to all the gaming tables.
The food was the best we've had in this area especially for quality and value. We will definitely dine here again. I would like to see you open more days and/or for lunch.
Location was convenient as we planned to play cards. We both ordered steaks. My wife got the chicken wild rice soup which she enjoyed with the warm bread. I had a salad which was also good and quite large. Our steaks came out, hers a filet and mine the bone-in Ribeye. Hers was well done as ordered but had a very odd/off aroma that we couldn’t place but it wasn’t appetizing. Mine was ordered medium but came out medium-rare to rare. Neither cut was particularly tender. The sides were good. The hash browns had a good crunch on the outside. The Brussel Sprouts were the highlight as they were perfectly prepared.
The seating was comfortable and the tables well appointed. The lights were quite bright and could have been dimmed. There were a couple very loud people at the bar but they can’t help that.
Overall the full experience was “okay”.
Great service. Steak cooked perfectly. Melted in my mouth, is was so tender. We'll be back.
Food was amazing. Service not so much. Waited over 30mins for get a pop and our drinks. Food took 45mins. When people that sat after us were getting their food before us. Asked 3 times for the bread so we had something to nibble on at least. Finally had to flag down the manager on duty to get it for us. Will be back again for the all you can eat and hopefully experience better service next time around though otherwise they probably will lose our business unfortunately.
Sadly not impressed with the experience. My crab was cold every time and the Prime Rib wasn't great. Our server forgot about us for a LONG time.
Disappointed that there was such a limited menu on a Saturday night. Virtually no options for a vegetarian. Our waiter was incredible. Beyond that... just heh...
The atmosphere was described as being modeled after a prohibition speakeasy but really you are dining behind a wall from the card club. Could hear the announcements during diner.
Food and service were good but not worth the cost you pay. Especially taking into account the atmosphere.
Went during the week and have excellent food. I highly recommend the Brussel Sprouts.
Extremely dirty and misleading photos of dining area and food. Went on Saturday night for what looks to be all you can eat Prime Rib and King Crab Legs, but is snow crab legs and a limited menu only. The lights were up so high, and tables dirty and unset and did not look like the pictures. It looked like a dirty diner inside a trailer. When we were sat, our table was half assed set, water glasses still wet and there was crab meat all over the window banister, chairs, tablecloth and the floor. We lost our appetite and left to dine somewhere else.
Went for crab legs, all you can eat, and the first rounds of crab legs were cold. We only got one round of hot crab legs before they ran out. Our waitress was okay. She really didn’t check on us for drink refills, we had to ask her for refills. I think she wasnoverwhelmed and understaffed. She did offer us a free beer for running out of crab legs.
The crab legs were very salty. The service was VERY poor. She didn't seem to have much patience with us though out the night. We had 4 people at our table. I had to bring our dirty dishes to somewhere else because it took a while for the waitress to come back and check on us. We were very disappointed over all. Although the steaks were very tasty
The $40 all you can eat Prime Rib and Crab Legs is the best deal around, they start you off with a plate with Prime Rib, Crab Legs, Baked Potato and steamed broccoli and it’s so good. The next time around you get a choice all four options again and you can choose whatever you want for how you want your steak cooked. This meal also includes ajus sauce and a thing of butter. It’s delicious.
We were seated promptly when we arrived at the restaurant. The service was very good as well as the food. When we sat at our table, the server promptly filled our glasses with water and took our order. We had the all-you-can-eat Prime Rib and Crab legs. The prime rib was excellent and the crab legs were very juicy. When we asked for more prime rib and crab legs, we received them in less than five minutes. The server kept our water glasses full the whole night. We had an excellent time and I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Wasn't sure what to expect, but was greatly pleased at the quality of the food and the excellent and attentive service we received. Prime ribs cooked to perfection and the crab legs were warm and plentiful.
Birthday supper for my son. Disappointed that there was a minimal menu-my son loves King Crab but the limited menu didn’t have that
We love this place! The staff is very courteous and prompt, the food is amazing! We didn’t make reservations the first time, the hostess was able to text us and we didn’t have to wait long. We have been there 3 times and the hostess knows us! Now we make reservations on line! It’s our new go to Saturday date night!
Went to eat the all you can eat prime rib and crab legs, and was very disappointed. Baked potato was undercooked, steak and crab legs were cold every time we got more and the first batch! Plus wait staff was very slow for being a tiny restaurant with not that many tables. Always needed a refill on our waters which took forever to get. Just was not a good experience at all.
Excellent dinner, Great service. Enjoyed a quiet delicious meal!
Went here for the all you can eat crab legs and prime rib. Crab legs were dry and probably precooked however, it took our server 20 mins to bring you 1 crab leg every time you ordered. The prime rib was good. The services was so slow, I wouldn't eat there again.
Prime rib was great, Crab legs were fair not much meat to them. Service was very friendly, but a little slow.
What a great place. The food was outstanding and the service was top notch. Will definitely go back.
Great food- the beef was very high quality.. tuna very good also
The quality and value for price-point are overpriced. Captive audience pricing. Food was ok, but a window view of a “ashtray and trash can” and “taco trailer” demonstrate the lack of details and ambiance...a true experience spoiler. Server and staff were pleasant.
We had to ask a few people in the casino area where the restaurant was located since it is not well marked. We didn't see a sign for it at all. Once we found it, we enjoyed our dinner. Our table was right at the window which allowed us to observe the Finish Line on the racetrack.
Our waiter was top notch. He knew when to check in with us and when to leave us alone to enjoy our conversation at the table.
The food was very good. I had the filet and it might not have been the same as you would get at Manny's or Ruth's Chris, but it was not too far off.
Would definitely return for another meal.
Great food and service. Our waiter Clay, made it a fun experience
Based on the restaurant’s marketing, my expectations were much higher than the experience delivered.
We learned about this restaurant while at Canterbury Park. They had a nice menu and the dining room has a steak house charm and overlooks the horse track. The Filet medallions and beef barley soup were very good. We also loved the warm rye bread.
Food is delicious!! We have visited twice, and the service is still terrible. We had to stop our server and ask for everything we needed. We also had plates in front of us that were never cleared away our entire visit.
This is my 3rd time dining at the Little Chicago Chophouse and it has been very good. I would recommend for people to try it. I think it is a great addition to Canterbury!!
There was way too much mediocre food for brunch for 2 people. The sides are served family style and were probably meant for 4 people. The quality of the sausage and bacon were terrible. Less but better quality food would have made for a better brunch. The staff was good though.
First time there. The Signature Ribeye Steak was great!! Service was also Great. Will definitely go back!
Not bad but needs some more work to move up the ladder. Cocktail shrimp was not good rest of meal was good
We got sitted right away but this was the only good thing. We had a party of four and it was Father’s Day, I will tell you it was disappointing. Our drinks sat empty, it took over an hour to get our food and honestly for the price it was terrible. The steak had no flavor, the brussell sprouts were so hard you could not even finish one. What a disappointment on such a special day! I will tell you we counted, four other families there plus one large party we should not have waited that long for our food.
The positive: the food at Little Chicago Chophouse was quite good and all of the waitstaff were very friendly. The negative: the service was painfully slow. We were there for over 2.5 hours and it took forever to get our drinks, our food and our bill. It's also too expensive for what it is. We enjoyed a day at the track and wanted to celebrate Father's Day and a 50th birthday somewhere nice, but not at downtown Minneapolis prices.
