Absolutely wonderful dinner! The dessert BLEW us away! The Parisian tart is TDF! The shortbread base was so good. The brown butter cake was also amazing, both were the server's recommendation. We got the burger to split- a la american- would love to try the original brie burger one day. We also got 2 deviled eggs to start, that was the only ridiculous thing about the meal, they were $6 EACH, which is seriously beyond silly for a half of a hard boiled egg. Beyond that, it was wonderful!
A nice French restaurant at Portland offers quite descent traditional French dishes with a twist. The roasted marrow bones with olive paste toast is very good. The sauteed escargot could be better with a few drops of vinegar or lemon juice. Duck confit tastes great but the portion is too little. The grilled pork chop (day's special) is very juicy and tender. Overall I like this place and its food. I hope they could also serve a few typical French dishes such as escargots stuffed with herbs and butter, orange duck, beef burgundy, ....
Great little restaurant. Nice atmosphere, very attentive service, good food and drink.
Great service, great cocktails / wine and great food
It was our 3rd visit to little bird, this time for our 15th anniversary.
The food is excellent, the wine is good and they have a big selection from France, the service is perfect - it makes you feel special - the decor is very nice, like a bistro in France... so Little Bird is becoming our favorite restaurant.
I am French, born and raised in France, and I truly know what is very good.. Little Bird is a place to discover if you don't know it, and to come back!
Loved our location on their balcony! We tried their white wine tasting flight of Alsatian wines, which we loved, and this was the start to a delicious evening!
Excellent fare. Try escargot with parsnip noodles. Love the Pan Pan cocktail.
Little Bird never disappoints - knowledgeable and lovely staff, always creative, innovative delicious food and drink
Perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion. We were seated in the small upstairs section, which could tribute to an overall sense of calm. It was bustling downstairs when we left. Lovely service from start to finish. Three different entrees (Duck leg confit, Salmon special, baguette jambon) were well prepared. I can’t wait to come back, hungry, to check out more of Little Bird’s menu!
Little Bird is consistently delicious and delightful. The food is wonderful and the ambiance inviting. While the service is friendly and competent, it leans towards the casual. Ex: "Ok, cool" in response to an order. Unfortunately, unwarranted informality is the plague of waitstaff Portland-wide. If we're at a taco bar, ok, but at a sit-down restaurant, I'd appreciate a few more syllables in my server's words. But that is really my only complaint.
My husband and I always make a point of going to Little Bird when we travel to Portland several times a a year. The food is consistently good and the restaurant is romantic and intimate. The waiters are always gracious and it is a perfect date night for us. We look forward to our next visit!
Lovely food and excellent service
Best meal in Portland - perfectly prepared Salmon, unique soup, delicious dessert.
Little Bird is a treasure, even in a city filled with good eateries of all sorts. A good number of starters and mains, complemented with some sides and (usually) a selection of oysters, makes this an easy place to manage, whether you want a full meal or prefer to pick and choose. The wine list is exemplary for the savvy with which it has been compiled, and the BTG selection is exceptionally good. Service is informal, friendly and well-informed. It's a happy place: full of happy guests and happy staff, and someone in the kitchen must be happy too, to turn out such tasty food. I was not unhappy when I arrived, but it had been a long day of rain and wind; I left happy too.
Great restaurant. Food and service was good. Sat upstairs with a loud table, but still good.
The food was excellent and our waitress was very helpful and friendly! Would eat here again!
One of the best meals we had in ages!!! The New York steak with the egg and scallops was incredible, the hanger steak super good and even the ketchup that my son had with his burger was made in house! Well done!
Awesome as always. Prix Fixe lunch offering is consistently exceptional!
Service was awkward and slow--very slow. Waiter fumbled through specials trying three times to get the soup ingredients right. We ordered deviled eggs, small salad, and the swordfish salad (fish on lentils)--we loved all but the swordfish was excellent, albeit small. Although each dish was simple to prepare we didn't receive our entrees until two other tables were served before us even though they ordered after us. The waiter knew etiquette but was a bit clumsy in following through with it--too weird to explain, however, he was spot on about the Gamay Noir--yum.
The cheese plate was fabulous! The entrees (coq au vin and duck confit) and service were also wonderful.
Little Bird was excellent, the food and service were both top notch. We will be going back!
Overall a wonderful restaurant. We drive from Seattle just for dinner.
We went to Little Bird before going to the theater. Amazing as always. We started with the seared foie gras, and then had their steak frites & chicken fried trout. Little Bird remains one of my favorite restaurants. Can't wait to go back.
Had dinner with friends. We did the March dining special. It was great! Will be back.
Nice table in the window. Loved the root beer cake with toasted marshmallows! Yum!!
Wait staff knowledgable about the food and wine. The sous vide then grilled octopus was served on a pot cake with julienne fennel, thinly slice red pepper and a few other things I can't remember.....what I do remember is the dish was balanced, very tasty and tender. The brown butter cake with caramel and whipped cream sprinkle with heather flowers was moist, and flavorful. This was an excellent meal.
Super cute little place. The waiter was very good. Offered coffee with dessert. First course and dessert were delicious. The fish portion was a bit too big.
A Food friend and I went to March Dining at Little Bird last night. The evening was a delight to all of the food senses along with a perfect wine pairing and Excellent service.
Our selection was the gnocchi, black rice crusted perfectly cooked cod and a mouth watering, moist corn cake with a rich caramel sauce and stewed rhubarb.
too noisy and crowd place, in a way not that comfortable. Foods were not good as expected - cod is not tasty as expected. Good service from waiter and waitress.
This was our fourth Portland Dining Month restaurant. Again, we started with a dozen oysters and these were the best dozen of the four. The cocktail was delightfully bitter--I'm glad I've discovered fernet. My husband had the dining month offering and the gnocchi was so delicious that when I tried a bite, I didn't want to give it back. I ordered from the regular menu--fried chicken with pureed potatoes and cheese. Unfortunately immediately after setting the plate down, the waiter then proceeded to pour a pitcher of balsamic vinegar around the edges of the dish. A little would have been fine, but a whole pitcher? The potatoes were already a bit too soupy for me (I like smashed the best), so it all seemed like a tasty wet mess. They had a lovely menu of after-dinner liqueurs, so while my husband ate the dessert of corn cake (unbelievably good!), I drank the Amaro Averna. Service was impeccable, lovely setting, amazing food--looking out on the wet street, I felt like I was not in Portland. This was the perfect restaurant to close out our Dining Month adventure.
Great food and service. We love going to a restaurant where they give as much attention and care to the service as the food. We took advantage of Portland monthly dining and have gone to many new restaurants to check them out. Little Bird stood out as one of the best. I will certainly recommend it to friends.
Lovely experience for our second visit there. Definitely an intimate space (more so downstairs than upstairs), but hardly noticeable over the friendly waitstaff and amazing food. Had the best cocktail so far of all our other dining month destinations. Great menu in general. We also appreciate that bread is still complimentary here unlike a few of our other dining month destinations. It’s a small consideration but I think it speaks to the overall way a restaurant views their patrons.
Perhaps the best bistro meal I've ever eaten...anywhere!
Wonderful evening at Little Bird! We sat upstairs near the balcony and felt like we were in our own little world. Awesome service, incredible quality.
We went here for Portland dining month and it was great! I really loved the almond ice cream. The atmosphere was cozy and the food tasted great. Definitely want to go back to try the regular menu.
I had the escargots and the steak au poivre for lunch. Both dishes were good. The escargots surprised me because they weren’t served in the traditional escargot pan, but most of the flavors were present in addition to the hazelnut and parsnip garnishes. Good enough to finish! My steak was pretty good. It was a little tough for medium rare, maybe even over cooked. However, it was a flank steak so that may explain the toughness. The goat cheese on top and the pepper sauce were excellent. I thought the fries were too crunchy, but I was plenty full so didn’t mind leaving them on the plate.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and he had such a great time! Wonderful service, food, and atmosphere
A small group of friends got together for dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. As expected, the meal was outstanding, service impeccable, and we left feeling quite satisfied by our experience.
We went for Portland Dining Month. I’ve been a few ties and I love this restaurant. We got the two menus offered for PDM plus oysters and the marrow. Everything was amazing, but the entrees weren’t as great as everything else. The cod was a touch bland, and the pork shoulder very fatty and a bit too sweet. The wine was delicious and the service was perfect.
We went to Little Bird for Portland Dining Month. The first and third course were wonderful but the main course, we had both choices, were mediocre. Fatty pork and tasteless fish do not make for a good dining experience.
