We went for Portland Dining Month. I’ve been a few ties and I love this restaurant. We got the two menus offered for PDM plus oysters and the marrow. Everything was amazing, but the entrees weren’t as great as everything else. The cod was a touch bland, and the pork shoulder very fatty and a bit too sweet. The wine was delicious and the service was perfect.
Unique blends of spices utilized in prime quality of food. Food plated beautiful with excellent personal service
I've been wanting to try Little Bird for awhile, and was glad it was for the Portland dining month $33 menu as I had misled myself as to the quality of the food. The service was good, the atmosphere had a cozy funk yet the cod was under seasoned and the Johnny-cake dessert was bland. Overall, the experience was fine- I know food and it was my high expectations that led to disappointment...
Excellent food. The only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is the food was not hot when served.
We tried this restaurant because of Portland Dining month. The restaurant offered two choices per course and we each had different options so that we could taste it all. Everything was outstanding, but I especially enjoyed the gnocchi, the fish and the corn cake dessert.
Great experience with a unique menu and expansive wine list! We ordered quite a few dishes (deviled eggs, rabbit roll, bone marrow, escargot, to name a few), and most of them wowed - would definitely come back to explore more of the menu and enjoy the ambience and service.
Fabulous as always
We came for PDX Dining Month and shared the entire tasting menu. The appetizers and desserts were awesome but the cod entree was fairly bland and the pork, while flavorful, was extremely fatty.
This is a beautiful restaurant and the service was quite good so I'll definitely be back to try their regular menu.
Little Bird never disappoints!
Couldn't get dinner reservation during our visit to Portland during Portland Dining Month. Got a 2:30pm reservation instead. They served their lunch menu for the special 3 course meal, and the food exceeded our expectations. Really enjoyed our meal there, and service was excellent. Looking forward to going back to this place next time we visit Portland again.
Rutabaga bisque with turnips was silky smooth, vegetal with an edge of bitter/black pepper, deep and satisfying flavor.
Wonderful experience and had the best seat in the house! Our waitress was a total sweetheart, very kind and informative! They were so accommodating and patient! Loved it!!
I was very happy to see foie gras on offer and it was delicious. I'd go back just for that. We also enjoyed some chicken liver pate before eating from the Portland Dining Month menu. I'd like to return and try some of the regular standards from the menu. All in all, it was a very good meal. My friends and I enjoy a friendly, full of personality server and ours was a bit reserved perhaps, didn't come off great in some ways but that didn't sway my opinion of an overall good experience.
I've wanted to go to Little Bird for some time and never quite made it for various reasons. I'm so glad I finally got there. Food was well prepared, with exceptional flavor profiles. We did not have a bad dish among us. Service was professional, noninvasive and prompt. Overall a great dining experience.
Absolutely loved coming to Little Bird! I've been in Portland for about three years now and this has been on my to-do list for almost this whole time. I was, surprisingly, able to get a reservation during Portland Dining Month - which I thought was the perfect opportunity to try out this acclaimed restaurant. Admittedly, I didn't know if I would like what I was getting (ie: Frozen Parfait of "cornmeal cake, caramel ice cream, sour cream mousse, rhubarb,
pineapple caramel, and chocolate corn crumb"- who would have thought this would be so incredible), but I was impressed with everything! 10/10 would come back. Have been wanting to try the bone marrow so that is definitely on the to-do list for my return. Don't skip the Pansette Cream Ale, which is brewed specifically for Little Bird by Breakside!
Everything I ate was amazing. Appetizers, main course, dessert, cocktails. Beautifully presented and very fresh and flavorful. The wait staff was also very friendly and helpful. It's a small restaurant and was full when we were there, so there was moderate noise, but it feels cozy and has a great atmosphere. I will definitely be back.
The food was great. The drinks were really strong
I have been to Little Bird over a dozen times. With Gabe Rucker taking over, the food was playful and creative, and I truly loved the restaurant. This time we had the worst service we've ever experienced. Perhaps it was because we were sat upstairs, perhaps because it was late, or perhaps it was just an off night for the staff. We arrived on time for our reservation at 9:15 pm and were promptly sat. No one came to our table for 18 minutes. Our waitress finally showed up in a fluster and wouldn't wait to take our entree order, saying I'll get your bottle of wine (>$100) and be right back to take your order. 16 minutes later the olives show up. 20 minutes after we ordered it, we got the bottle of wine at 9:53 pm, 38 minutes after we had sat down. During that 38 minutes I watched the waitress refill the bus station, help other tables, and speed every one else along other than us. The pacing of the meal was painfully slow and odd. The side of frites we ordered were brought to our tables with the salads. To make matters worse, because of the glacial pacing, by the time we received our entrees, the entire upstairs was empty. So our waitress started re-stocking their entire bar station upstairs making us feel like we were overstaying when we had just received our food.
I used to consider the service at Little Bird to be one of the most polished and professional in Portland with some very creative food. Given this experience, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and just assume the upstairs area provides a barrier for good service and would recommend simply requesting the main dining area.
Came here for Portland dining month for the first time, and I'll tell you I am upset that I've never been here before. The food was beautiful and so good. They were the first restaurant to even acknowledge I had added a special note about my girlfriend being a vegetarian and immeadiately offered her an option for the dining month menu. The staff was very attentive but not intrusive, exactly what you want. Our server was knowledgeable about the food and drinks we were having. It was really just an all around wonderful time and we will definitely be back. If you're looking for a more casual French fine dining restaurant, do not overlook little bird.
Like most Portland restaurants, the wines are overpriced, but the wine recommended to us was excellent and smooth. We started here for Portland Dining Month and sampled the entire tasting menu as well as some raw oysters. It was delicious and the rice-crusted cod was amazing. Very good service. A bit cramped in terms of space.
This was our first time here after hearing many wonderful reviews about the food and atmosphere. It was on my list for a while! Our server was fantastic. There when we needed him, offered advice, made us laugh, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The food was incredible. I had an amazing salad (and I usually never order salad), the rice crusted cod, and frozen parfait. I would recommend it ALL. I don't think I've stopped talking about it since we went!
The food was fabulous as always. Lovely dinner with a European attitude. This is a place to linger over dinner and not be in a rush. I love the time between courses.
We took friends from out of town, as we know this to be an excellent restaurant from past dining experiences. Portland Dining Month was an added bonus - such a deal! The mustard greens salad was delicious if one likes spicy and bitter greens. I and a friend loved it, my husband did not. The friend also pronounced the full order gnocchi to be excellent. Main course for me - cod with braised endive - was excellent. My husband said the pork shoulder was, too. Another guest had the hanger steak and roasted mushrooms, both very yummy. Dessert was vanilla ice cream and lime sorbet, which was good but VERY tart. I had the cake, which was delicious despite its odd ingredients. All in all a lovely dinner in a very pleasant space with excellent service. One of my favorite restaurants.
Our second trip in 2018. Fabulous charcuterie plate, seared fois gras, oysters, escrgot!! Gerat wine. 5 star (out of 5): server (Lanie), greeter, GM Byron & bartender!!!
It is going to be a regular dine out spot for us!!
Our server Jaye was fantastic! The Portland dining month menu options tasted great. Even unnecessarily rude diners next to us was no big deal due to the grace of the staff.
Lovely dinner. The waitstaff was fantastic. Our waitress even left us with a list of recommendations for the following day. What a lovely place. I would go again in a heartbeat.
This was a great spot to explore Oregon dining. We also had the opportunity to go to Le Pigeon later in the week. Both restaurants provide wonderful cuisine.
The food and service were impeccable; and a particularly good value during Portland Dining Month.
We had a wonderful meal with excellent wines. Jeff, our server, was a jewel. Thank you!
Best duck confit ever!
Went for Portland dining month. Was my first time here and will definitely go back. Food was delicious and service was excellent. We had a rice encrusted cod that was done perfectly.
Would highly recommend.
Went for portland dining month. It was sooo worth it. The cod was cooked perfectly and the parfait had so many layers of flavors.
My son and I did a tasting of as many of the small plates as we could. Seven to be exact, sharing each delicious one. Little Bird exceeded all my expectations in every way.
We went there for the Dining Month, the menu was fantastic.
We ate at Little Bird for Portland Dining Month. Everything was outstanding. The portions were generous, food beyond tasty, atmosphere relaxing and comfortable. We will return.
Our hostess was very congenial and capable. We got early seating which was important for our concert time. The bread is always a treat! Our meals were very tasty and the portions were just right. A nice Cotes du Rhone by the glass. Worth going to when you can spend more time.
Honestly one of the most delicious meals I have ever had.
Ces’t Magnifique! I felt as if I had been transported to Europe for a few hours. It was another rainy day in Portland-dining at Little Bird and tucking into cozy French comfort food was just what the doctor ordered. The little macarons served at the end of the meal were the perfect finish.
The restaurant is absolutely lovely! However, the portions are small and it’s quite expensive.
We four thought this was a memorable place: meal excellent, ambiance european and cozy. above all we love Nora-so calm, so helpful so charming.
