Great food. The chicken fried Trout is amazing.
Nice ambience, but in the end, an overpriced bistro with some inventive dishes but uneven quality. The chicken fried trout (recommended by the waitress) was very bland and had too much gribiche glopped onto the fish in an effort to bring some flavor. The duck was better. Fromage platter—average quality. We expected better for the price and reputation. But the bar does make great cocktails!
Simply a beautiful experience. The pork belly was top notch.
I have been here several times and always have a fantastic experience. The duck breast with corn, chantrelles, and peaches was the kind of combination I'd never make at home, as was the salad. Lively, but not too loud although there were just two of us. The menu continues to innovate around the French Bistro theme in a way that never seems duplicative with other restaurants in Portland.
I dined alone. Started at the bar with a nice Woodford Reserve Old Fashion. Then moved to a table and started with a Charcuterie of chicken liver pate and a soft cow cheese. It was served with a green sweet relish and garlic toast points. I skipped on the points and used the nice Baguette that was brought to my table.
Then I moved on to bone marrow served with a cherry and mango chutney with a "grilled cheese"?? I didn't really like the marrow as it was just gelatinous and oily tasting and I didn't quite get way you would want it with a grilled cheese sandwich.
For my finally, I had the duck with a very nice corn mélange. That was outstanding! I will be back next time I'm in Portland on business.
Overall, Little Bird was an enjoyable experience. The food was delicious and wonderfully presented. The only downside was the service. Our waiter was decidedly unfriendly. Not rude, mind you, just totally indifferent to making any connection with the diners. Some of this I could attribute to them being understaffed - only two waiters and the place was jammed for the entire duration of our visit. Anyway, I would give it a try as the food was fantastic.
Pricey. Food was well presented
A true dining and wine experience 🥳
If in Portland you must go!! Everyone was kind and provided guidance for an evening with Great food and the right wines.
Excellent food, superb service, good value for money. Will go again and again and again ...
super fantastic time had by all. you cannot go wrong with cuisine. extreme.
Waiting time for food were too long. It was pretty slow.
This place is amazing! I great organic healthy option! They only use olive oil for cooking and a neutral oil for frying. This is a big deal! Service was also amazing the gentleman behind the bar took great care of me and made sure I had great drinks!
Very charming ambiance, but we were disappointed in a few of the dishes. My seared duck breast was tender and flavorful. I had to part with some of it though as my partner's New York Steak Frites was tough and disappointing. We had also ordered the grilled broccoli side dish which sounded lovely but was surprisingly bland. This was our second visit there and it did not live up to the first, unfortunately.
The restaurant does a good job in recreating a French bistro. Nothing more. French does not necessarily mean "haute cuisine." Good, solid fare, rather expensive for what you get, but fun, nonetheless, and a menu that reflects what an average bistro offers.
The food was good but the noise (we sat upstairs) made it hard to hear conversations. It was pricey and the portions were a bit undersized for the cost in my opinion.
Wait staff left our dirty dishes way too long after we finished our dinner. That said, they were pleasant and made good wine recommendations.
May return but it won't be a regular thing. Too many other restaurants with good food for a bit less. It would be better to have a meal offered instead of everything being ala carte.
Great food and great service!!!
All the food was way to salty for all three of us. The innovation on the Tuna Nicoise was interesting, pretty, but not delicious. All in all, our meals were quite disappointing.
We had the most amazing experience at Little Bird. Our endive salad was DELICIOUS. Simply lovely. We split the Burger with Brie and it was EVERYTHING. Perfectly cooked, seasoned, moist and amazing. A “can’t put it down burger”. We skipped the fries and opted to get the summer squash which was a spicy, creamy delight. Fully recommend!!!
Little Bird is a charming restaurant. I almost feel like I’m in a Paris bistro. I so enjoyed the chicken fried trout. It was deboned, opened and fried to perfection...non greasy and moist on the inside and covered with fresh herbs etc. Our server was excellent...attentive and efficient. I’ve lived in Portland for a year now and this is my favorite restaurant.
The duck was awesome and delicious. The chicken fried trout was unusual , tasted like a great fish taco as it’s served w lettuce leaves and tartar sauce. The broccoli had so much salt it was almost inedible. The zucchini cake was wonderful with fresh peaches on the side. Again salt was an issue, and believe me I love salt, but there were large grains of kosher or sea salt on the whip cream which was totally unnecessary and detracted from the flavor and sweetness. Overall a fun experience .
Great service, great food.
The food, service and ambience were outstanding!
Lovely restaurant, service was welcoming and very professional. Had a lovely experience.
Good Food way overpriced
Spencer, our server, was awesome...great recommendations on wine, attentive without being intrusive. The appetizers were to die for, especially the Roquefort and the cashew crackers (could have eaten those all night and been a happy camper)! My steak and my partner’s duck breast were both tougher than expected, but the flavors made up for it. Delicious!
Excellent dinner and service. Our go to romantic dinner spot!
Went during happy hour. Good, ambiance, service all top notch.
Like the diverse menu options, great service, the staff likes the Little Bird also!
Food and service were exceptional. We really enjoyed how they paired our food. Our waitress also gave very good wine recommendation.
The only thing I'd suggest is to have better lightings upstairs. We could hardly see our food, which had very good presentation.
The food is excellent. Custom cocktails are delicious. Service is great too. When you are in Portland, it is a MUST!!!!!!!
Absolutely fantastic service! We were celebrating our first year of marriage anniversary, and could not be more pleased we choose Little Bird to celebrate at. 5 star quality food and service all around. We will definitely be back and recommending to friends!
We went for an anniversary and the food, wine, and service were outstanding!
As always, a charming and wonderful experience. Confirmation that culinary masters can make magic from the same ingredients that mere mortals cannot. Dare you to not say “wow” with each bite. While shorter-lived places start strong but eventually tire, happy to report that Little Bird is better than ever.
You could throw a dart at the food and wine list and anything it lands on will be amazing. The trout is life changing.
Shame on the chef to pickle Chanterelles
always a good bet for wonderful food and great service
You will need a reservation.. (at least for Friday evening - when we went) - but its worth the effort - and the wait (not all folks leave when they are supposed to) - and its always hard for any restaurant to resist the urge to over-book. We found the staff to be very professional, courteous, knowledgeable and friendly. The menu was interesting, without being OTT. The food was most defiantly excellent and worth spending the money on. You will enjoy this restaurant.
Lovely spot and great service. My mussel were just warm and I wish the frites might have had some aoili to go with them.
Wine Flight with food pairing was delicious
We were seated upstairs at a cute table on the balcony. The server was knowledgeable and efficient.the food was delicious!
