Great! Most of my reviews end up saying good not great. This restaurant is truly great and not to be missed. The food is spectacular.
Food was awesome and place was homey on the inside
As good as ever! We hadn't been to Little Bird in a year and had a splendid pre-concert dinner. Old fashioned cocktail was superb as was the recommended Syrah by the glass. My wife had a double brie burger accompanied by perhaps the best French fries on the planet. I had the New York steak, which came beautifully slides in thin morsels and was perfect. Lovely service. This is truly one of the best restaurants on the planet -- and they don't take it for granted.
A sports bar with a restaurant added on? Very simple order took forever to appear on a Wednesday night. Nothing noticeably French or Bistro about it. Prettygood food.
We had a reservation for 8:30, but had to wait for 25 minutes before we got a table. Once we got to the table, there were not much reason to complain. The food was good, the servings definitely oversized. The wine list was acceptable too. The noise level on the loud side. We were not compensated for the long wait in any way, they even charged us for the coffee.
The restaurant has a great atmosphere and usually has fine food but this night there was a flaw in the entrees that we ordered. The duck leg was good but nothing else accompanied it so we felt it was rather expensive for the sparse dish. The rib entrée was tough and very little meat so not really a good experience. Appetizers were excellent as usual so I would recommend just skipping the entrees - at least the ones we had.
The hanger steak was best I've ever had! Love the french fries too.
Our server was amazingly well informed. She was very attentive and wonderful. The meal was good. There was a sauce that was burnt and I was disappointed in the sparse peas and morels that arrived on my plate when they were the feature of the special.
Overall, I'd give them another try and hope for a little more .
A very short review bc everything was just absolutely amazing.
Every time we travel to Portland, we always go back there, one of our favorite restaurant in the world, the service always immaculate ,and friendly, and the food tasty and good, my husband and I , just love this little place, one of the best places we eat.
Incredible meal. The duck confit was absolutely amazing. Our waitress was incredibly helpful in guiding us with menu selections for our gluten free(celiac) mother. Thorough and accurate knowledge of food and beverage (wine & cocktails) on the menu. I come to Portland for a weekend usually 1-2 times a year and this restaurant is now on my must visit list. Everything we ate had such depth and attention to detail. I will be back!
Lovely atmosphere and excellent food. The server was knowledgeable and personable.
He had excellent knowledge of local wines.
So delicious!! Great meal, with interesting spins on classic dishes. Everything was done well.
My wife had heard good things about Little Bird so we decided to go there for our 20th anniversary! We were seated upstairs at a nice little table overlooking the main floor. That was fine until a large group of 7 women and 3 men were place at a large table a few feet away from us. The noise level went from moderate and enjoyable to loud and obnoxious! The large group was having a good time and many, many times one or two of the ladies laughed so loud you could probably hear it in the kitchen. The waiter apologized a couple of times but we weren’t going to let it ruin our evening. We had the Chicken Liver Mousse and Goat Cheese dish for appetizers and both were excellent. For main course, my wife had the hanger steak and I had the Coq au Vin. Both were excellent. Along with a nice Bordeaux, chocolate Olive Oil crack and ice cream for dessert, we very much enjoyed our dinner at Petite Oiseau. My only suggestion would be more cognizant of where you sit large parties, and it not be next to couples that are most likely out for a quite evening or celebrating a special event!
Went for lunch with a colleague. Ambience and service were excellent. Swordfish with lentils was quite good, but the lobster and shrimp roll came on a hamburger bun and was average at best, especially for its price. Wonderful place for quiet conversation.
While vacationing in Portland we went to this neighborhood french bistro. It is in the downton areas of Portland and probably in walking distance from your hotel. It was like being in Paris: the food was delicious and the service was great. Basically you can not go wrong with anything on the menu.Definitely worth a trip.
As always, the food and drinks were perfect. From the appetizer to the adorable mini-madeleines.
perfect dinner. Great service. Beef tongue is very delicious.
Food was fabulous! Liver pate was great to share as an app. Salmon was delicious w Parmesan broth. Be sure to ask for bread, it, too, was great.
Amazing meal! Everything we ordered had so much flavor. It was hard to decide what to get because everything was so interesting and delicious sounding.
Food was not remarkable. Disappointed. Bummer.
Epic meal, couldn’t fault anything
I sat at the bar and received good recommendations and great service. The wine, food and ambiance were all very good as well.
Food was excellent, from appetizer to entrees to dessert. Service and advice was outstanding.
It appears that the menu tries to be a bit too creative. The coq au vin was simply fried chicken with a so-so reduction sauce. It missed the mark with both my wife and me. The escargot was also different from its usual presentation, although my wife seemed to enjoy it (but not as much as a good garlicky butter preparation.
My girl-friend and I really enjoyed our meal here. It was casual, yet with upper scaled food, which is a perfect ending to our day trip in Portland after all day of sightseeing, walking and biking.
Nice restaurant with friendly service. HOWEVER, the appetizers and main course were not timed very well often taking 30-45 minutes between each course. The food, though good overall, was a bit hit or miss. Overall nice place which needs a bit more attention to detail.
Reputation is well deserved as it has been consistently excellent for as long as it has been in business. The only negatives are the noise (plus inappropriate music genre) and excessive bottle wine prices. When most of the wines are priced at 2-3 times the average entree price, something is wrong and our desire to dine here more often has to be limited.
Lovely restaurant but some of the serving sizes for the price are small.
Loved the food and our waiter Adam was fabulous!! We were a little late for our reservation and the hostess was very kind and assured us everything would be fine. it was great!! Loved Jacob's soup. Great charcuterie options. best burger in along time!!!
Nice restaurant. We had oysters, cheese board, and meat board. It was good but very rich. Didn't feel the best in the stomach. Nice drinks and nice service!
I absolutely love everything about Little Bird - the ambiance, the menu, the service - everything! I travel to Portland at least once a year and never miss an opportunity to dine here.
We had a great table, great service
and the food was delicious!
I can hardly wait to go back for another
meal. Highly recommended!
Extremely well-conceived dishes executed at a very high level. This was flawless food. The service was great too- professional but genuinely friendly. A wonderful evening out for a fifth anniversary.
Exceptional food and service. But request a booth on the main floor.
Limited, dull menu. My half of the check that included entré, one glass of average wine, and a half-split of the olives was $63. I have no problem paying $63 for a deserving meal. This was not one of those.
The food was incredibly delicious. I especially enjoyed the charcuterie plate. We ordered all available charcuterie options and none disappointed. Service was impeccable. We will return in the future.
Really great food. Always very tasty, the marrow bones are just amazing!... Service is great! Perhaps a little bit pricey but the quality of food really deserves it... great place for long talks!
Very very loud little place. The food was good but it took about 2 hours for a salad to come out. It wasn’t worth the wait. The thing that set me off about it was the fact that it is a very small restaurant and they tried to fit twice as many tables as they should have. there is no privacy in conversation considering the next table is inches away.
