Had reservation no issues there. Placed order never received our appetizers was asked if we wanted them at the end of our meal. Food was nothing to rave about. About par with Panda was never asked if we wanted more water or Ice tea. Wasn't offered apology for the no appetizers or something in return. Was never asked if we wanted any desert. This was our first time there horrible impression, sorry but wont be going back.
The best authentic Chinese restaurant in downtown LA. My only negative comment for this particular trip would be, 1) extremely loud live band, and 2) bruised pork was very cold inside... However, overall positive experience as usual.
Wonderful and authentic Cantonese food, spacious and quiet atmosphere. Be aware that the valet is not there until 5 pm, but you can enter the building to park.
This place deserves at least one Michelin Star. Great food, great service and great location!
The food and the location is great. However, the prices are too expensive for serving small plates. I am confused whether they are a 5-star or 4-star restaurant because the dishes are pretty expensive considering the amount of food per dish. The Xiao Long Bao is pretty dry too, knowing that it should be a soup dumpling. The servers were famtastic, always kept on checking our table. We got seated by the windows and it looks really great at night.
Insanely poor service. My food was delivered to the wrong table. We asked multiple servers to find out what happened to my order, and we were completely ignored. It wasn’t until our initial server came back (he disappeared for 40 minutes) that we were told what had happened. One server told us “the food will be served whenever it’s ready to be served,” and just walked away. Seriously?!?!?
In the end, the assistant manager came out and apologized. My food showed up 50 minutes after I ordered it. It was good, but at that point, the food of the other person at the table was cold... My food was delicious, and I know it was a mistake. But the brush off of the servers was ridiculous. We did not have to pay for our lunch, and we received a discount card to come back. Not sure I will though. Can’t stand rude servers...
Poorly run. Make staff insulting female waiters. Arguments over lights in front of guests. Food was mediocre similsr to panda express
The female server was not very on point, but a fabulous male bartender took over for her and became our waiter and that changed everything. He was so on point! He checked on us, he made great drinks ( HH special, I think it was a Lychee martini?, it had the Lychee Gel cube in it and it was so good. )Ordered 4 between me and my friend. lol. Food was authentic. So authentic sometimes, it was a little unusual for my taste, but overall enjoyable and fun to try new things. You have to be into that sort of cuisine to want to come back, but the drinks were so good, we are likely to come again. Wish I could remember the bartenders name, he made it so warm and fun. If we had been dealing much more with the space cadet waitress, she kept not coming back, seemed dazed, like she was on something....this review would have been much different. The bar had a Xmas party kind of thing happening with a group , but there were open seats in the next room by the fake fireplace, the tv and the Christmas tree. We were overlooking the city with a beautiful view from the 4th floor. It was lovely.
Everything was good except the seating and air quality! I was sat by the kitchen. Lots of other tables available but for some reason they sat me by the kitchen. Maybe because I was alone and the tables by the kitchen are smaller. The kitchen fumes were bad enough that it bothered me. The kitchen needs better ventilation. Im surprised that the staff is not aware of this.
Service was OK. Most of the staff seemed friendly and upbeat but my main waiter seemed quite dour.
Food was great.
It was a Black Friday 50% off day so the price was exceptional!
Delicious! Helpful server watching out for our food allergy.
The food was ok. Service was slow. Everything was in small portions and they didn't offer a dessert menu. No fortune cookies or orange slices after your meal either. Came for a birthday, and nothing special was offered.
Top notch place for roasted duck, but really anything on the menu is excellent.
Was terrible food and service- server didn’t know menu, pleasant person, but not helpful, frustrating-almost ruined a perfect day visiting LA, food so bad could not finish the meal, way too expensive, completely deserted- apparently others were already aware of how bad it is, should have recognized when we walked in, went because visiting the OUE at night, View was gorgeous at sunset, still NOT WORTH IT!
Was pretty empty for a Friday night. My girlfriend and I sat in the lounge, so the bartender was also our sever. He did a good job of handling both duties. Had the Cactus Jack and it was good. In terms of appetizers, we had the bao and the salt & pepper chicken wings. I would recommend the wings for sure. For dinner we had the pepper duck, honey walnut shrimp, and garlic noodles. I would recommend all of them, with the duck being the must have.
We had a good time
Fine experience. Wish the flavors were more authentic and deep, but I understand that they are probably trying to appeal to a variety of audiences. I do feel, however, that most people who live and work in the area are familiar with authentic Chinese flavors since Chinatown is so close and Los Angeles is so cosmopolitan. I would go more often if true Chinese flavors were represented.
Food was excellent so was the service. Very attentive. Nice views.
The best Asian restaurant in downtown LA. Awesome experience.
Everything was amazing all the food was good and the service were really good and the servers are so nice especially Ravet. I will definitely come back.
Most likely the best duck in the city (perhaps county, perhaps state). It’s a high end Chinese dining establishment with a great happy hour.
The XLB and Hainan chicken rice also the dim sum plus BBQ Char Siu are sooo good. I feel I go to Ding Tai Fung, Savoy and the high end dim sum place all at one stop. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my colleagues and clients to try.
However, you need to advertise a bit as a lot of people still do not know this place.
Our go to everyday dinning - best upper end CHINESE food in LA.
Restaurant was empty but it still took a very long time to get our food. When we arrived, they tried to initially sit the two of us at a table for 8! Also, the food came out sporadically rather than all at once. We received a vegetable first (after at least 20 minutes) that should have gone with the entre which came a long time later - 20 minutes more! We ordered fish that was not properly cooked. The dinner was warm but not hot so it was probably sitting in the kitchen getting cold. The waiter was pleasant and tried to be attentive.
We enjoyed the food very much. It was quite tasty. One dish was spicy, but we were told that it was spicy. The service was quite good. The look was clean and elegant. But, I would not recommend the restaurant, because the price of a cocktail was extremely high. One drink of Stolichnaya vodka, on the rocks, with barely a 2-ounce pour, cost $16. I have never seen a vodka on the rocks drink be so expensive. We asked about the price, but were just informed that it was what it was. Unbelievable!
We were led to believe our experience at Li Orient would be outstanding. It was not. Open table had us wait two weeks for a Saturday evening reservation. The restaurant was empty when we arrived and when we left. The waiter gave us a nod as we were seated, yet we waited over 10 minutes before being brought water. Soup dumplings were so bland one could barely distinguish one from the next. An $18 order of "pan fried rice" had 4 shrimp and zero flavor, as it had not actually been fried. "Chared Garlic Brussels Sprouts" were undercooked, and neither the garlic nor the sprouts had anything resembling a char. "Garlic Noodles" could easily have come from a diner. Throbbing electronic "house" music was piped in for most of our meal, switching over to vocal jazz as we paid the bill - and a whopping bill it was. After receiving parking validation, $10 of $15 were still ours to pay. Huge disappointment in every way. Our old neighborhood favorite, Twin Dragon on Pico, serves delicious fried rice with tons of meat and veggies for less than half the price. Their food is typical Chinese-Ametican, not fancy, nothing exciting, but you can taste the flavors, you're served generous portions and you pay a very reasonable price. I'm sure there are amazing, expensive Chinese restaurants, but stand warned: Li Orient is not among them. Go elsewhere (or go to Twin Dragon.)
Expensive poor service mediocre food. No worth your time to r money.
The portions were very small. We ordered 4 entrees plus egg rolls. Let's just say we left there and we were still hungry. Soup cost extra and it was lukewarm. I asked the waiter to warm it up, it came back just a tad warmer but not hot as I wanted it. We ordered hot braised shrimp - there were 10 shrimp. We were a group of 5, so we each got 2 shrimp. 10 shrimp at $28 = $2.80 per shrimp - way too pricey - plus they had the shells and tails on it. What topped it all is that we were charged for white rice. I understand dishes being a la carte, but charging for white rice at an Asian restaurant??? Also, we had to ask for soy sauce (none at the table). Dishes arrived one at a time, which didn't set well with our group. Our total bill was $111 for 5 of us for lunch. Service was a bit slow considering we were practically the only ones at the restaurant. Sorry, will not be back. They certainly don't give any extras here, which is disappointing especially because the place was empty. I know that if prices were better and portions were larger, more people would go there. It's a great location and I know our co-workers would be happy to celebrate birthdays at a nice place. Too bad!
Great food, attentive but not intrusive service, and a terrific view. We'll definitely return.
Very nice scenery. Awesome service
Best duck in the entire world. The service here is phenomenal and the lunch express side is pretty convenient mon-fri. They have great views for a beautiful sunset and equally good cocktails to enjoy while taking in the scenery. Overall great place I love to frequent
We were there early on a Friday evening so luckily the restaurant was not that busy yet. Consequently it was quiet enough for good conversation. the food was delicious with very ample portions. The servers were very attentive and helpful. Will be back.
Li Orient offers a varied menu of tasty offerings in an airy well-lit space. The lightly battered tiger prawns were simply amazing.
It's nice to have a decent Chinese restaurant back in DTLA. LiOrient, a tad pricey, but I would recommend the Szechwan spicy fish - this has the numbing spice and lots of lemon grass, so not for the weak at heart. Their dim sum tasty (a bit similar to Din Tai Fung with the soup inside). Portions are sometimes smaller (veggies), but the fish soup definitely a family style share dish. Everything I saw on other tables was well presented, but can't comment on taste.
This place was great - great service, food, and overall experience!! We ordered the colored XLB’s and they were very good. We also ordered shrimp fried rice and two types of noodles. The total of four items was perfect for a group of five average young adults. Our waiter was great in helping explain the ingredients, popular dishes, and his preferences. This is a great spot for a lunch in downtown, even though finding parking will be tough. They also have an express lunch side that is affordable for those that need a quick bite + good meal + reasonable price! Keep up the great work!!
I took a co worker here for an appreciation lunch because this restaurant was her choice. Took awhile for the waitress to take our drink orders. The rest of the food came out fairly quickly as were in and out in an hour.
However, my issue was the waitress. She kept checking in on us every 2-5 minutes. No joke. Seems like she was rushing us because when we were in the middle of eating, she brought our check and asked if we wanted to boxed our food. She also kept forgetting things and had to come back to the table several times. Not cool especially if this is supposed to be fine dining. Lunch was not cheap and I expected more in the customer service department.
The service is a hit or miss. Another time, it took the waiter forever to greet us/take drink orders. No rhyme or reason to it at all. I would not be back for lunch, not sure how dinner is but I won't be back for awhile.
My first experience was wonderful. 5 Stars all the way!! Enjoyed so much, I'm bringing my friends back this weekend!
Enjoyed the Valentine’s Day dinner there. Service was impeccable. The food was delicious. The restaurant’s ambiance was modern, clean, and upscale. It was worth the money to enjoy an evening there.
It was soft opening for lunch. Wait a bit and let the kinks work themselves out. Food was ok. Surprisingly, there was very little vegetarian options. Management was hovering over staff...soft opening...and correcting staff in front of guests. Very unprofessional and distracting.
