Absolutely spectacular once again.
we love this place. also great for vegans. lots of fun dishes to share
Flavors were bold and tasty. We were worried about heat of sichuan but it was perfectly balanced. Cocktails were inventive. We received such friendly, neighborly service from the bartender and owners that we stayed at the cozy bar to enjoy our meal.
Thanks to Garrett and the entire Lionhead staff, the food is always unbelievably amazing. The drinks and service are too. This is my favorite restaurant in Seattle and I recommend it to anyone who likes spice, or Sichuan.
After the first visit, Lionhead has immediately become one of our favorites, for both food and service.
We enjoyed the clean casual style of the place enhanced by a beautiful many-paneled painting on one wall and a couple of carved wooden sculptures on the other. Lanterns hanging over each table added more charm.
Our waiter (Garret) was awesome - friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable. We got lots of his attention on our first visit and a bit less than we wanted on our second one which happened to be Friday night (definitely need more people on the floor). We also noticed how he talked to other customers, going into details explaining the ingredients and recommending dishes/drinks. A great guy!
The food was really good. They specialize in Szechuan cuisine and use lots of citrusy mouth-numbing Szechuan peppercorns as wells as hot peppers. The dishes can be really spicy, though there are some milder options on the menu as well. We recommend the dumplings (tried all of them and liked all the kinds with lamb jaozi being our most favorite). Loved the radish cakes: nice crunch outside, soft inside, great flavor overall. A generous serving, too! Homemade buckwheat noodles were really good. As was an entrée rockfish dish. This one was really spectacular, though very spicy and needed rice as a side. We also enjoyed five spice braised duck, however the sirloin in chili cumin beef was somewhat chewy (need to sharpen my teeth).
Lionhead offers an extensive list of baijiu (Chinese distilled liquor usually made with sorghum) served in 1.5 oz shots. We tried 6 during our two visits there and they were delicious. They also make a bunch of tasty cocktails. I enjoyed 5 spice old fashioned (though second time around had to return my drink to add more of 5 spice) and husband loved Four Rivers that included Szechuan peppercorns infused vodka. Loved it so much we went to buy a pack of Szechuan peppercorns and a bottle of vodka to make our own.
The verdict: we highly recommend!
Fabulous place, it was our first time. Was busy when we arrived so recommend reservations . Our server was helpful and knowledgeable. He didn't try to oversell . Food was so amazing! Our drink order was forgotten but other than that 10+!
Great food, great value and Service, price fine. Really recommended
Overall it was good. Could have been gear if it was not too noisy. Some dinners were really loud. It’s really hard to have conversation with our parties without “shouting”.
Delicious food, definitely the best Chinese food I had in Cap Hill. Reasonable prices for the portion sizes. Family style is a must.
Very good food. Authentic and really well done. Service was fantastic as well.
The food is always great, but the service is hit and miss, trending to full miss. Occasional helpful suggestions and speed, followed by rudeness, and disappearing acts (in a tiny restaurant). But the food is great, so maybe takeout? Or be prepared to waive down the waiter multiple times.
Find a Szechuan peppercorn and chew on it for a numbing/buzzing sensation!
I always love dining at Lionhead. They go all-in on spice to create lush, layered flavors with plenty of Szechuan peppercorn mouth tingle!
Great food and service. Server was knowledgeable and fun to interact with. Really excellent food!
This is our 3rd time at Lionhead and we had a great time. We had the Cumin Beef, Pork potstickers ( to die for), spicy chicken pot (tiny morsels perfectly cooked) and wheat noodles. Everything tasted delicious and we had chosen to go easy on the numbing spice. The service was excellent as well. We really missed having our favorite Buckwheat noodle dish. May be next time!
We come here a couple times. a month - we were pretty shattered to know that Jerry sold Poppy and that Lionhead would also likely shutter. good news is chef bough the place and is keeping it open! Last night's meal was even better than usual - gung bao, buckwheat noodles, lamb jiozi, eggplant fries, tofu, and water spinach all were bursting with flavor. Best Szechuan in the city bar none.
Everything was so amazing. This seriously might be one of my favorite dinners in Seattle for some time. The food was INCREDIBLE. The staff was sooo amazing, helpful, flexible, accommodating. Just so great! I’m still dreaming of the food! The group all had raging reviews!
Delicious food and impeccable service. An absolutely wonderful space and highly recommended! Yummy all around!
It was fabulous as usual. I love the food and can't wait to return.
We had the pork wontons and the chili cumin beef and they were both pretty magical! I would definitely recommend this place.
Tasty food that’s fun to eat thanks to the Sichuan peppercorn.
Garrett provided amazing service to my group who had never experienced lionhead before and was very accommodating and attentive to our needs
They accommodated us surprisingly easily as a larger party since it’s a bit more of a strain for a smaller venue. I went there with my family to celebrate my birthday ready for some delicious Sichuan cuisine. It was difficult to choose what to eat since all the menu items seemed delicious. The server guided us through the menu and gave us a brief history of the restaurant and chef. We ended up ordering the pork wontons, both baos, crispy boneless duck, ma po doufu, twice cooked pork, cumin beef, buckwheat noodles and fried rice. Each dish had its own unique level of spiciness and depth of flavor. They all seemed to compliment each other leading to a very fulfilling feeling at the end of the meal along with some nice sweating from the spicier ma po doufu. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting amazing Chinese food, my only regret is living so far away.
The service is great and the drinks are splendid and food is so delicious! I don’t think I’ve ever had food this good and it’s reasonably priced.
Such a good value for consistently delicious food and drinks.
Food is outstanding, inventive and complex seasoning.
A relaxed restaurant with very friendly & helpful staff. The food does not seem to be traditional sezchuan, more nouveau sezchuan as the dishes were very original or were new twists on more traditional sezchuan. We had the Yu Xiang eggplant fries as a starter. They were delicious, savory & crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. For the main meal we had the stir-fried pea vines with shiitake and oyster mushrooms. The pea vines were unusual, but very good and the ginger/mushroom sauce was amazing. We also had the boneless crisped duck. The hot and sour sauce was also amazing. The chef really knows how to make delicious and savory sauces. My only negative was that the crispy duck was a little soggy because the sauce was on top. Perhaps putting the duck on top of the sauce would be a better approach. All in all, a great find and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Always outstanding. Comfortable. The food is so creative and consistently delicious. The staff there is always consistent too. I’m a fairly regular patron and like to go there with my friends to catch up and enjoy. Their 5spice old fashioned is fantastic.
So delicious!!!! A great way to have an early Mother’s Day dinner.
Fast, friendly service. Delicious food that is spicy but not overdone. Worth trying again.
We went for restaurant week. If you don’t like spicy food beware! Their level of spice is very authentic, AKA caustic to my American mouth. I found things on the menu that were delicious with milder spice levels, but they were still on the edge of what I could tolerate. Thank goodness they have good-quality paper napkins, because I was blowing my nose the whole meal. My husband is a spicy food enthusiast and he adored his fish. My salt and pepper tofu was light and crispy and came out very hot and fresh. My favorite thing was the eggplant appetizer. It was sweet and spicy and fried and perfect. We will be back for sure. The hot and numbing spices are a unique experience if you haven’t had them. Oh and the deserts were excellent! The pudding (rice or tapioca I don’t remember) was very good. The lychee sorbet was thicker than I expected and had an excellent texture.
Mediocre food, great drinks, poor waitstaff.
Food was good, not great. 7/10. The portions were huge. The sezchuan spicy mouthfeel is really crazy and experiencing that for the first time was the peak of my night.
Waitstaff was bad. Waiter forgot about us during our meal and we just sat there for 45 minutes before realizing we needed to go talk to someone. Food runner was a jerk, maybe he was just high and trying to not be awkward? Who knows.
Drinks were great! Lots of unique ingredients that you don't usually see in cocktails.
We don’t know why we haven’t eaten here before! The food was fantastic.
The service here was impeccable. Super friendly and just the best. Our server was there when we needed it and never too often. The food was an explosion of flavors in every bite. Between my date and myself, we ordered way too much food, but did not regret it. The portions were much larger than expected, which is always nice for yummy left overs. We weren’t disappointed with any of the dishes and only wished we could’ve had enough room for dessert and more! Definitely coming back for more!
Like a bit of spice? Just enough to clear your nose and make you pay attention? THIS is the place... the food is excellent and lots of choices. My advice is to select a lot of the starters and let that guide you. All of the selections are amazing with just enough spice for you to take notice. My favorite was the Cured Beef Salad... soooo bomb. You really can’t go wrong here!
Great place with excellent service and just too tasty food.
People in my party loved the food. I was limited to the gluten free menu and was less enthusiastic.
Another great meal at Lionhead! Try Baijiu paired with the dishes.
It was an okay dinner. Good food. No extras. But a bit annoyed when saw the check was already included with 20% tip. Seriously! What if I want to give 15 or 18%?
Highly recommend! Definitely try the pork belly, fried rice and wonton soup! Both bao’s were also great!
