I found Lionfish through Open Table in preparation for a business trip to San Diego. General rule is to go seafood when you are on a coast. Our group of five was not disappointed. We were greeting cordially and quickly seated upon arrival. Our U-shaped booth was spacious enough for comfort thus gave everyone a view of the active room. AJ quickly greeted us and took drink orders. He was generous with honest recommendations based on real experience with the menu. We started with shared appetizers - the best of which was the Berzerk sushi roll. The best single item of sushi we have ever had. So good that it became an entree for one of our party. Entrees followed after a reasonable time. I opted for the Salmon after wrestling with going for more Berzerk. It was my only disappointment of the night as the salmon just did not measure up to the fabulous sushi. No complaints about any of the entrees which included a steak that was highly rated. AJ helped with wine selection and did a decent job of pairing, though most of our table was not well versed in wine. Dessert was excellent as well with the churro ice cream sandwich my choice. It was a leisurely dining experience but at the proper pace. With all the choices in the Gas Lamp district, I'd feel compelled to experience another restaurant on the next trip, but it would not be due to any shortcomings at Lionfish. Great experience.

They were disorganized. The wine we ordered took 20 minutes to get there, and trailed the appies. Food was good, wine list was limited, and all prices were 30-40% over for no good reason. Don’t go

Top to bottom spectacular...incredible happy hour deals 5-7PM EVERY DAY. The menu is deep with something for everyone. My personal favorites were the Octopus, Rock Shrimp ($9 bucks HH) and Surf and Turf roll. A definite must go to restaurant if you live in SD or ever visit.

Food was all excellent, fantastic wine list. It was my wifes birthday and our second time there. We always worry that the second time won't match the first and I am happy to say it was still awesome. We will be back!

First time dining here and boy was it a treat! The cocktails are perfectly crafted to perfection and the food was divine. Came in here to celebrate my bday with some girlfriends and we all agreed it was a place to return to. Highly recommend the Hot in Jalisco cocktail (for the spicy tequila drinkers), the Rice-Paper-Scissors (gin lovers like myself), and the OTC (Bourbon connoisseurs). Whoever crafted these cocktails deserves a raise! The steak tataki, lamb striploin, surf & turf roll, grilled octopus, grilled asparagus with a hen egg was all delicious. The only thing we didn’t really like was the Brussels because it was a bit too salty.

Wonderful vibe and delicious cocktails. Crab dish is to die for; disappointed by the Wagu/Lobster rolls (bland and not special at all), shumai was good (but nothing outstanding), pork belly good (but sorta dry) and lobster carpaccio good (but small pieces). I wouldn't hesitate going back but would be much more selective as to order. we would have ordered only the crab - it was amazing.

I have never had octopus do tender it was not chewy at all and the spicy was great!!! That fish alone was worth it. The St. George scallops were great as well but the octopus was amazing!!

Sophisticated yet relaxed ambiance. Service was top notch. Chris took care of us and never rushed us, in fact, he made sure to ask if we were having a good time. He wanted us to be comfortable and well fed. He made some great suggestions too.

Lionfish is a classy spot with excellent fish dishes and decent cocktails. The service is always on-point, and it makes for an easy dinner option when you are staying at The Pendry hotel. The sushi is delicious, and their fish and shellfish entrees are really good. I'm not much of a pescatarian, but I always get the fish here and I'm never disappointed.

Great food and servicer. Love the location, but the restaurant is very noisy. I would go back for lunch, or the bar, but not my first choice for a nice dinner without a cone of silence machine to drown out the noise level

Best recommendation I’ve ever gotten from a friend. Our food was lovely, and our server recommended all of our favorite things from the crudo to the Ora king salmon to the sushi. He also suggested the perfect bottle of wine my whole family enjoyed. Can’t wait to go again when I’m in San Diego.

Overall very disappointing. Service was super slow. Server non present, non personal. Service sequence with a lot gaps. 2 hours 2 courses. Beautiful place. Lack to attention to details. For the type of restaurant disappointing.

Our oysters were almost gone before we got our bottle of white wine. The server brought the wrong bottle when we were about half done with the oysters, then came and said they didn’t have our wine. By the time he came back with our second choice it was almost all gone. We ordered 48 oysters to start with, added 12 more, so it was a long wait for our wine as you can imagine. All in all this spot is always one of our favorite places! I just was dissatisfied with the time for the wine to come out. This is not a typical experience here...but worth mentioning for the restaurant’s betterment of service.

Love this place though, $1 oysters and their octopus is so freaking delicious. We love Sunday wine specials too. It was my birthday and here is where I insisted on celebrating! Definitely recommend trying Lionfish.

We arrived almost 30 minutes early for our reservation, and they sat us right away. We opted to sit outside because it was so nice, so I cannot comment on the interior ambience. Outside there was the expected street noise. The tables were close, so we could hear the conversation of the table next to us. The best part was our server. She offered both wine and food recommendations—and not just the priciest items. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and made sure we were able to take advantage of the happy hour prices also. She informed us beforehand that there might be a delay on our oysters because they were shucked by hand as they are ordered. From the wine and oysters, to our entrees, dessert, and check, I did not feel we had to wait too long for anything. Service was spot on. The food is pricy. I love sea bass, but I don’t $65 love it. I had the yellowtail. It was not one of our server’s recommendations, but I ordered it because of the mushrooms. It was cooked appropriately, and the Tozazu sauce it came with was a nice “meaty” flavor, but the fish itself was a little dry. If we go back, I would possibly try the dynamite snapper our server recommended or maybe the sushi rolls. My husband had the scallops, and he said they were good. The house made mignonette that comes with the oysters is a nice change up from the usual cocktail sauce. I liked it. The oysters themselves were good quality, not out of this world, but as expected—no shell shards or graininess. The layered chocolate cake was my favorite, and I’m not even a fan of butterscotch or pecans. It was absolutely delicious though. Very moist.
The only disappointment was that I had indicated on my Open Table reservation that it was for a special occasion, a birthday. There was no acknowledgement from anyone regarding this. I guess I was expecting the usual happy birthday dessert, or even, “Thanks for spending your birthday with us.” Maybe they just missed it.

Our experience was not bad. The food was averrage but the portions were small. We were seated promptly by a hostess that was not friendly at all basically just put our menus on the table and never said a word. Our server was very nice and did a great job managing our dietary preferences. The food was presented nicely. Drinks were over priced and so was the wine. I do not mind paying top dollar for a great experience and a great location and this was neither.
