Great atmosphere, staff, and food. The menu has fresh, unique flavors that are exciting to try and satisfying to eat
I took my boyfriend to Linear for brunch on his birthday. The experience was incredible! We ordered the three course tasting menu and chose the oatmeal bake, brussels sprout skillet and poached steelhead. It comes with a bottle of champagne and we ordered orange juice to go with it. The food was absolutely amazing! Our server, Nick, was wonderful. The atmosphere was perfect. I highly recommend going!
My friend is on a plant based diet, the chef always makes him something off the menu. It’s just wonderful how accommodating they are!
Inventive tapas or sharables, nice views of the river. I may have caught them on an off night but seemed a little understaffed. Everyone was pitching in, but it seemed more out of necessity than system. I had plenty of time so it wasn't an issue.
Subtlety is not a lost art here at Linear - this was our second visit in as many months and we were again impressed.
My wife had the "Grilled Half Poulet Rouge Chicken" (corn tartare, green onion vinaigrette) again and again it was excellent; we're continually amazed at how many restaurants - of any caliber - cannot seem to make a decent chicken dish but Linear nailed it twice in a row for us.
I had the "Grilled Barrumundi" (red quinoa, edamame, veloute foam, shiso leaf) and although it wasn't quite complex enough for me to make it through the entire dish it was presented very well and overall I was pleased [although not quite as pleased as I was last month with the "Candy Striped and Watermelon Radish Ravioli" (walnut "cheese", parsely-mint pesto) - this is something I hope they bring back at some point].
My only serious complaint in two trips was ordering a White Russian from the bar (my after dinner drink, if you will). Immediately after our server (Kristen, who was excellent) brought the drink to our table the bartender appeared to explain that he's "not a fan of cream" and asked if I wanted a side of cream for the drink. What I wanted to say was that I wanted what I ordered (and not what he likes) but I simply said "Sure." He brought was was clearly half-and-half which would only have made the drink even more vile than it was. Let me repeat, the drink was *vile* - it tasted like a bad vodka-on-the-rocks into which some skim milk was accidentally poured. Despite my not going further than the first sip we never heard another word about it as it sat on the table in front of me. For the record, a White Russian is properly made with vodka (preferably Grey Goose), HEAVY cream, Kahlua, and, ideally, Baileys; call me old-fashioned but whether the bartender does or does not like an ingredient should not play a role in its preparation (unless instructed otherwise, naturally).
All-in-all, however, we'll be back for another visit (despite living two hours away).
Went there for an anniversary celebration. Although it was busy the noise level was reasonable. We ordered an appetizer which was so good we decide to order three more and make those our meal. Excellent cocktails/generous pours. Can’t wait to return and sample some entrees!
Amazing food, great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Really enjoy the entire experience.
The brunch is a great value! The food was delicious and the service was great.
I was booked for a table for a two a week in advance and when we arrived there was only a tall table for 4 available. We waited at the bar for a table for two to open. The bartender amidst his workflow did well to check in and put our appetisers and drinks in. Once our table was available we quickly moved over. Unfortunately, our waiter wasn’t very hospitable I.e. quickly gave our menus, failed to explain it, and simply took our orders and left. The food was delivered relatively quick and was actually quite good. Our overall experience was average based on the hospitality component. Although, food was good I think that extra touch of intentional service/warmth could elevate the overall experience.
Linear has always and continues to go above the average to give an excellence in service.
Celebrating my co-workers with a new restaurant experience and Linear delivered! The food, presentation, and service was exceptional.
Great special. Very eclectic my wine was old so they got me a glass from a fresh bottle no questions asked.
Second visit even better than the 1st time. Appetizer was wonderful. Salads were very good and inexpensive. Main course meals were also very good. Great value and wonderful service. Nice view out over the Grand River
The food and decor are sublime. Slow service second time we were there. Bigger portions than the first time we were there. Hope they get in the groove! 🤞🏻
Fantastic! Great location, food was wonderful, and service was excellent. My duck was one of the best things I have had in some time!
Food was good, not exceptional. Wine list limited. Service very pleasant.
Enjoyed our first visit there. The duck, veal tenderloin and wagyu beef were excellent, as were the cocktails and snap pea appetizer. The only thing that was disappointing was the puff pastry appetizer, which was mostly pastry with a few bland veggie toppings. Otherwise, we will return!
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner and evening outside on the patio overlooking the water. Service was outstanding and my ribeye was almost perfect. The chef recommended medium rear however it was slightly undercooked for me, to be picky, however very good.
One of the best restaurants in Michigan (and in 57 years I've tried quite a few). We'll be back in this area in a month and will see you then!
We loved the food, the service, and our waitress whose name I think is spelled 'Ami"?
Our first visit to Linear was great...from the warm greeting by the hostess to the "au revoir" from our server, Kristen as we departed! My wife and I shared the Roasted Fig Fondue with the sourdough bread for "dipping" as our first course. Yum! For our main course, I had the Ribeye steak (which was cooked to perfection) and my wife truly enjoyed her Duck Roulade.
Parking was a bit of a challenge as Linear was competing with "Movies on Monroe" for on-street parking the evening of our visit, but the 4 - 5 block walk back to the car after dinner - on a beautiful summer evening - was the perfect end to our "date night".
Good attention to detail and presentation of food. Waitress was knowledgeable about menu and so pleasant to talk with. Lovely evening dinner.
Are entire group loved it! Fabulous food, attentive staff and nice atmosphere.
Fantastic attention to detail. The oyster mushrooms were fantastic.
Overall just a bad dinner experience. The server recommended steaks cooked medium rare- which would have been great- except that they came cold red and jellylike inside making cutting and eating it just terrible. Caesar salads came and we asked about croutons and anchovies- we were told that no anchovies were available and that rather than croutons, “there were breadcrumbs in the dressing” lol. Salmon on one salad was smelly and white- suspected it was Michigan salmon which isn’t really salmon. The other salad ordered with steak came with approximately 2 oz of steak- again undercooked cold red and really just a scrap cut of fatty steak. Ordered an espresso that arrived COLD and was told- “that’s as hot as our kettle will heat”. I left it aside. No adjustments made and I realize it’s only a few bucks on a $150 bill, but the dismissal kind of made me mad. The hit of the meal was the kids pigs in a blanket.
Bottom line is eclectic does not mean good. This is a beautiful restaurant and bar in a great location... maybe we hit an off night.
Good food, went early and it wasnt crowded, nice servers
The restaurant is bright with tons of natural light and many plants. Our server was great! She was great at following up. The food was creative and just the right portion size. Everything was very fresh. We will definitely return!
Good food and great service as always. One of my friends is on a plant based diet, the kitchen was very accommodating and made a vegan version of the special for him.
Our family dined at Linear last week and had a wonderful time! We brought guests from out of town and the servers responded to where I asked to be seated (online via Open Table) by seating us perfectly. The atmosphere is great. Facing the Grand River to the west was spectacular. Loved the restaurant design - very contemporary. Felt like downtown Chicago. I think they were understaffed the night we went but our server, Kristin, was very friendly and accommodating, and kept us informed of timing, etc. so we knew how to proceed. She also came up with great dinner suggestions. The Waygo flank steak was incredible and the Prime Ribeye was awsome also. We had a group of 8 and everyone enjoyed their meal. We will be back. Also love we could walk the trail along the Grand River both before and after we dined.
Our group greatly enjoyed our time at Linear. The outdoor seating was wonderful, the food delicious, and the overall value strong. Our group enjoyed a variety of Linear's offerings--the Flank Steak, Pork Tenderloin, several desserts--and would certainly return.
Family was in town and we wanted to have an amazing dining experience so we picked Linear restaurant.
Wonderful location excellent service, a REAL bartender and innovative food you won't find elsewhere in Grand Rapids. The menu is VERY limited. 5 starters, 5 entrees, a couple of desserts and a couple of salads. Period. Huge beverage/liquor/wine list.
Sat outside for Sunday brunch. Patio is so nice and scenic. But they do need umbrellas!
Food was amazing. So tasty and nice size portions. The tasting menu for two with the bubbly is a great value. Service was a little slow. I think they were busier than expected. We didn’t mind because the day was beautiful.
We were completely disappointed with our experience. This was our second visit to Linear for brunch, we were super excited to sit outside on the river and enjoy an amazing brunch with our family. We were seated outside, in the sun. We were greeted after waiting for at least 15 minutes. We asked about the umbrellas that were still covered and not expanded, and were told, "I'll check but I think they are broke." We asked for 4 coffees and were told that she'd have to brew some. After another 10-15 minute wait we were given 2 cups of coffee. Another worker came out and we asked again about the umbrellas since we did not hear for sure if they were broke since our waitress was "checking", we were told they were broke and they did move us to a shader spot. At that time we asked if the staff person could have our waitress come back so we could place our order. After waiting an additional 10 minutes, she finally showed up to take our order. Coffee and waters were not refilled unless requested, our breakfast was not great.... eggs were VERY undercooked and toast was burnt. I would have recommended after our 1st visit, would not recommend after our 2nd.
Food was excellent, and we would highly recommend this restaurant.
Disappointed with the service. Only 1 server (and the owner pitching in) for the whole restaurant. Server ignored my daughter when taking drink orders. Didn't look at her or ask what she wanted. Slow service due to the lack of staff. Food was good but only three scallops, some greens and chopped apple for $29.
Lovely outdoor patio with view of river parkway. Great server, intelligent with a good sense of humor. Food was playfully creative. Excellent cheese delicious plate. First courses to spread on fluffy fresh crusty focaccia (but no gluten free alternative). Interesting roast avocado bean salad with a sorbet dressing.
Incredible experience! A gorgeous view of the river, unique dining options, and a great selection of drinks. Impeccable chefs and great customer service.
Just didn’t enjoy the food all that much. The steak was good but everything else was average at best.
My wife and I went to dinner for our anniversary. The setting was very nice - we sat outside along the Grand River. The menu changes regularly, so part of the adventure is what will be available the day you go. Prices are on the higher side - we spent a little over $100 for the two of us. We shared a mushroom appetizer, then she had scallops for her main course and I had a ribeye steak. All were very good and my steak was cooked as ordered. However, we thought the price for my wife's meal was a bit high for just three scallops and a light helping of fresh vegetables. For dessert, she had a chocolate/walnut cake that she found a bit underwhelming, and I had cherry bread pudding that was very good. The good food and setting outweighed the two minor disappointments, and we intend to return to try some of their other offerings in the future.
