Lincoln - DC Ratings and Reviews
We went to the Lincoln for my husband's 36th birthday dinner. The restaurant was about 35% full and i put on the reservation that it husband's birthday and we wanted to sit in the red room which has a nice ambiance. The hostess pushed back at first and was going to seat us at a regular table in the front of the restaurant and i reminded her that it was my husband's birthday and we would wait for a table in the red room (which had 3 open tables at the time). So she ended up seating us there. For the price of the food it wasn't very good, under seasoned we didn't even finish the food. Also they didn't do anything for his birthday for dessert. Also from the time we sat the food came out in 10 minutes so the whole meal start to finish was 30 minutes. Usually when we go out for tapas the food comes spaced out and we enjoy trying different drinks, etc. We wouldn't go back even if the prices were lower. Not at all impressed. Also when we left we noticed all but one table was open in the red room so it's not like there was any reason she should have gives us a hard time about wanting to sit back there..
Not sure why this restaurant puts such an emphasis on small plates - menu items can stand on their own as apps or entrees and several items are decidedly not conducive to sharing. Similarly confused about inclination to add bacon to everything - especially cocktails. A good Manhattan doesn’t improve with bacon
My family was in from out of town and Lincoln was recommended to us as a nice place with small plates, which we love. The overall vibe of the place was awesome and the food, delicious. Our waiter looked fairly new, a bit of a deer in the headlights, which would have been fine. However, his suggestion was to order roughly 2 small plates per person, again fine and that is what we did. and he assured us that the kitchen would pace our plates accordingly. Instead of having a lovely meal and savoring the variety of flavors that we ordered, our food was brought out within 2 minutes of each other, by the time we had a bite of our first dishes, additional dishes were served. When we asked that they slow down since at this point, there was literally no more room at our table for any more plates, they looked at us like they had no idea there was an issue with 10 plate of food all being served within 15 minutes of each other. Miserable experience that left us with cold food and indigestion to boot. For a place that was busy but not super packed, it was crazy that we sat down and paid our bill within an hour and 10 minutes. We weren't looking to spend 4 hours at a meal, but certainly didn't expect this crazy pace. Worst dining experience I've had in a while.
While the food and drinks were awesome, I was not impressed with the service. We were there with a group of seven. The entire meal felt like we were imposing on the service staff and they just wanted to be elsewhere. Also we were a business group needing separate bills. They would not accommodate our request. I can understand this if a place is packed but a quarter of the restaurant was empty and we intentionally came earlier in the dinner hour to keep from hindering normal dinner times. So I would recommend for a happy hour drink with friends. Under no circumstances would I ever go back with a business group or a party above five. They told us we could not do separate bills for our party and the service was not pleasant.
Too noisy to have a good business meal, and the vegetarian options were a little slim if you're not a salad fan. The decor was great, but if there was anyway to get sound absorbing panels hidden here and there, that would be great. Also the ice cream sandwich is not what I was hoping for.
The Lincoln use to be my fav. Brunch spot in DC. The last two visits has been absolutely AWFUL! I went up three time to get food and the shrimp and grit, and the fried chicken was empty. It took over 20 min for it to be re-filled! For $50 per person, that is absolutely ridiculous. The bacon came out burnt 3 times, I just told my server to FORGET it! I raved so much to my out of town guest that she would have the best brunch ever for her bday, and it was a total LIE. Please do better..... I def. will not be returning!
