Wonderful restaurant and great view! We have been there many times over the years. Great wait person and excellent service!! Highly recommended.
The view, the service and the food is always so consistent.
great views and wonderful outdoor patio.
salads and fish dishes are quite good.
The setting and food are wonderful. The service is barely mediocre. It is sad that a restaurant with that kind of setting, a lovely menu and excellent flavors allows such abysmal service. And it all starts at the front desk - where you are advised, even though you have reservations, that you will need to wait....and wait you do....for over 1/2 an hour - we had requested outdoor dining (which we understand is first come, first serve) but with 9 tables empty we were hard pressed to understand why we were being offered 'the most beautiful inside table'.....and even with table empty inside we were advised that the 'chef had not released the table'....what does that even mean?
There was something off this day. The food was not prepared well. I ate same dish few days ago, which was more flavorful and contained everything that is written in the description. Today, it was watered down sauce, three small pieces of octopus and overcooked pasta. I guess, bad day in supply and kitchen department.
Nice atmosphere and service. The food and service was excellent . The food was reasoned perfectly.
Our server, Robert, was very knowledgable and helpful. The food and service were excellent. We were disappointed not to be able to eat on the deck, as that is a special treat. We were told before we arrived that the deck was not open and that a window table had been reserved for us; I appreciate that. I wonder about the closing: the sun was bright and there was no wind. The day had been cloudy earlier; perhaps staff was cut back in anticipation of an overcast, cooler night. Will return.
Love the ambience and location of the Limewood Bar & Restaurant. We had an outdoor table for a Sunday lunch with family. It was very comfortable and we had amazing views of the Bay.
Excellent place for brunch, the chicken and waffles are among the best I have had (ever)! Highly recommended for the views and decent service.
My fiancé and I were so excited to enjoy brunch and a spa day at the Claremont but our experience at Limewood left us pretty disappointed. It started with the hostess telling us she couldn't seat us right away even though the place was pretty empty when we arrived (15 minutes early). Then we were told we couldn't be seated in the sun on the patio because the table was reserved for groups of 4 (even though they seated a couple there only minutes later). Then we ordered brunch and I asked for my burger to be cooked medium and it came out barely rare. I told our server who said he would let the manager know but nobody ever followed up with us or adjusted our bill. I was shocked at how poor the service was and plan to write the manager directly.
Very, very slow service. Over 45 minutes to get meal AFTER we had our drinks and ordered, another 45 min and it wasn’t crowded. Waiter did not seem interested til tip time. Manager comped two champagnes but it didn’t come close to compensating. Should have been whole meal. Over over priced for quality
We ate breakfast, brunch AND dinner there and each meal was fabulous!
Great location plus view of The City on the deck, food was good but could be better, wine list is good for drinks by the glass, service is good but can improve (clean table , water without asking and more checking in on guest ).
My husband and I went here on July 4th hoping for a fun night out and view of the fireworks (weather permitted). We were sadly disappointed with our overall experience. The food menu and bar/cocktail menu are limited and lack creativity but the prices are outrageous. They charge fine dining prices for an upscale casual atmosphere. Our meals were as good as anywhere else, nothing extraordinary, so we felt we were over charged. The wine list is even more ridiculous, I don’t believe there is a glass for less than $18. The view is the only reason we’d come back and we’d probably eat in the bar as they have their own menu. I remember when Limewood was the Paragon restaurant, nothing about that place remains. It’s now it’s just a hotel restaurant gouging it’s guests.
I love FW!🎆🎇 Thank you Fairmont for the beautiful vision. We are from the bay & stayed at Claremont for our 30th Anniversary. Thank you so much for the little things.
Was a great luncheon for my team! Could not have asked for better food or service.
Having been to Paragon many times in the past, I thought the change to Limewood would still impart that positive experience. We were celebrating a birthday and had requested outdoor seating (due to the beautiful view at this location) in advance. When we arrived we were told they don’t have outdoor heaters, which seems ridiculous given its location in the Berkeley hills with an epic view of the bay. They sat us indoors and remarked that one seat at the table had a good view. This would have been good to know in advance because we would’ve dressed warmer or chosen a different restaurant. As described by other reviewers, the menu is VERY LIMITED. it’s a one sided food menu with very few options. They do have a good kids menu, however. Our service was pretty good and the food was ok. Overall I wouldn’t go back here for dinner unless some changes are made. I would consider drinks outdoors if weather permits, but that’s it. Pretty disappointing.
We entertained friends for brunch at Limewood Restaruant in the Claremont Hotel (now a Fairmont Hotel) and were very disappointed with the food and service. The brunch menu was very limited. We all ordered something different including the smoked chicken with egg, hamburger, waffles and chicken, and smoked salmon. The restaurant was not crowded when we arrived but upon seating us, the hostess apologized that they were understaffed with a large group in a separate room. It took about 5 minutes for the waiter to greet us only to say he'd be right back. 5 minutes later another waiter returned to ask if we would like a beverage. After another 10 minutes the same waiter came back and asked us for our order. Within about 10 minutes, one of the entrees was delivered to the table. After another 10 minutes none of the other entrees hadn't been delivered. The waiter took the first entree away "to keep it warm". We waited another 10 minutes for all of us to receive our food. During this time, neither coffee nor water was refilled. One of the party ordered a hamburger medium rare. When the burger arrived, it was overcooked. The smoked chicken and egg entree was over salted. The smoked salmon entree was very paltry given the price.
Under normal conditions, we would have sent the food back. But, since we were entertaining friends whose time was limited, and after waiting for over 30 minutes to receive our meals, we were all just too hungry. To complicate matters, after waiting for everyone to receive their entree, our friends only had about 20 minutes to finish their meal before they had to leave for another engagement.
Generally, the entree's were pricey and skimpy. We never received an apology about the lengthy time it took to be served or for the spotty service. One would think that the Fairmont chain, with its premier reputation, would be able to do a much better job. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant.
Food was good, but service was poor. They were short handed and it was taking long time from one dish to another.., our lunch took 2.5 hrs, that’s a bit too long, and a bit too expensive. My friend and I had split 1 soup, split 1 salad, split 1 burger, split 1 dessert, each had 1 drink, and each had a cappuccino - $130!!! You decide!
Wonderful and relaxing place, with great food and an amazing view.
I found the menu to be too short and lacking in appealing choices. Many items had to be described to us by the very attentive wait staff. I ended up ordering a hamburger for lack of interest in the other items, and it was a total disappointment (for $24!). Too much bun (though tasty), and tasteless meat. My friend ordered the kale/tagliatelle dish and said it was excellent....all 5 bites of it.
I have eaten at all of the restaurants which have preceded Limewood in that site. Each has provided a more varied menu and better quality food.
Your wait staff are wonderful. Sorry about the rest.
Good views , good food
The Trout at lunch is wonderful with fresh vegetables.
The views of SF Bay are great.
Wonderful service....generous portions and a gracious waitress named Nicolette made the morning memorable ...I would save for special occasions ...menu is pricey....ab
They should have the patio open before 11:30 for breakfast!
Our 4th or 5th time to dine there, and we have all ph
The service is ALWAYS amazing at Limewood. We loved the Basil Smash -- I even stole my friend's drink because it was so damn good. The burger was a bit under cooked, but the super friendly service and lovely outdoor patio made up for that. We'll be back for more delicious cocktails and delightful staff.
Service slow, prices high, nice view happy hour should extend to Friday afternoon
Lunch and tip was $135 for two people. You definitely pay for the Claremont atmosphere. If that bothers you don't eat there.
Terrific entrees and wonderful service. To top it off the hotel is historic and beautiful. You feel like you are somewhere special.
For such a fancy hotel a terrible restaurant. The beet salad had no taste, the mixed green salad was mediocre, boring greens, indifferent dressing. The hamachi crudo tasted vaguely fishy, nothing else, we left half. The steelhead trout (I think it was salmon) was ok but came with lukewarm shriveled morels and some green dollops that tasted of nothing. The peach cobbler was mostly topping and lots of sugar. The bread was boring. The entire meal had no discernible taste! Truly mediocre food, we will not go back. The waiter was nice.
Extremely disappointing! Sad to waste such a beautiful venue on such a mediocre dining experience. I arrived 6 minutes early for our reservation and was told we would be seated in 6 minutes; despite the fact that the restaurant was virtually empty. Were then taken to our table. While I had made a reservation for a part of 3; and the 3 of us were there together to be seated, the hostess took us to a table for 2. When I mentioned that we had 3 in our group AND there were 3 of us present; the waitress said that my reservation was only for 2. I double-checked and, indeed, it was for 3. The service was mediocre, at best. The menu - lackluster. We were there for brunch; and, I understand brunch is not culinary highlight. The Eggs Benedict on the menu was a salmon Benedict. We were told that the only non-salmon Benedict option came with regular bacon not Canadian bacon...ok. Two of us ordered the non-salmon Benedict option because the other menu selections were not particularly inviting. The entrees arrived on cold biscuit halves. I will give credit where deserved; the eggs were cooked perfectly. It also came with a tastelessly dressed green salad. The venue is beautiful! The view breathtaking. Such a disappointment that the rest of the restaurant is not and good as the view. In the Bay Area where excellent restaurants are a dime a dozen; I don't think I would bother going back to Limewood.
Wonderful service, food, ambiance and those views!!! Came to celebrate a birthday and this was the perfect place. Sometimes when a location has such a beautiful view and decor the food and service can be secondary, but not at Limewood, they did everything top notch and made us feel special, cared for and added extra cheer to a wonderful milestone celebration!
Service was not good. I asked for a plate which never came. We celebrated a birthday but they didn’t acknowledge that. Lights were out and it was dark after the sunset on the patio. I had to ask them to turn on the light. I am not one to be complain but who wants to eat in the dark? Not me, not anyone. My server was slow, I saw that the other tables had better service. Our server was nice but she didn’t get her job done. Food was 2.5 stars. My pork was a little more done than it should have been. The crudo had no citrus juice. I wouldn’t go back. (It’s my 4th time dining there).
I found the food and the service at Limewood to be outstanding. The staff was friendly, accomodating, and knowledgable. Also charming. They helped make the the experience wonderful, but the real star was the food. While the menu descriptions might make one think the chef is over-doing the attempt to creative innovative California cuisine, the dishes taste so good that you can forget the stange (or strangely-named) ingredients. The view is also wonderful. The only thing that keeps me from giving this restaurant the highest rating is the noise level. It was hard to hear across the table. The design of the room—bare floors, hard surfaces everywhere—is like the menu in crying out "I am MODERN and HIP." You can ignore the self-congratulatory prose in the menu because the food is so good. But the noise produced by the self-congratulatory design almost ruins the whole experience. I hope that they will buy some rugs, table-cloths, and thickly padded chairs, both to deaden the sound and to annoy the designer who almost ruined the place.
The food is good and the service was excellent. I do recommend that they add a few more options to their brunch menu. It felt a bit restricted but everything we had was very good. By the way the coffee was outstanding!
Limewood is the pearl of the East Bay Dining. I took my wife to celebrate her Birthday and we were treated exceptionally well. The seating was exactly what I asked for in the OpenTable reservation. The waiter was delightful and the food was over the top good. Pricing as a little high for drinks but the evening was fantastic. Had a nice two hour plus dinner experince and the dessert saying Happy Birthday was great. Thank you.
Outsanding view on the bay. Enjoy the terrace with San Francisco city and Golden gate experience at sunset.
