Wonderful Christmas celebration with old friends. We stayed forever and they did not hustle us along. Mario, our waiter, was just terrific and the chicken sandwich and burger were fabulous. Definitely a keeper. Thanks!
A beautiful view from the Berkeley hills and spectacular food. The perfect place to bring guests.
The wine was great. The crab pasta had less than a teaspoon of crabmeat. No exaggeration. We were amazed. Overpriced and very disappointing food. We had a great waiter.
Lovely place for a special occasion. Beautiful setting, friendly (but very slow) service. Expect hotel / resort pricing.
Service and care!
Truly a very good night out!
We had a table for six. Lunch was very nicely paced and waitress was very attentive. Food was good and we had a lovely time.
I would recommend with caveats. My wife and I celebrated all of our anniversaries for 20 years at Jordan and then the Meritage and both were always beyond excellent in the quality of food and service. Limewood does not meet those standards on any level. The Limewood is a good restaurant with good food with a great view. It is much too noisy to carry on a conversation with anyone that is not immediately next to you. The waiter missed my wine order because he did not hear me. We will be looking elsewhere for future special dinners.
An excellent dinner with lovely service. The view from the window next to me was dreamy.
Good food, but a bit pricey.
It's a good alternative to traditional too big Thanksgiving dinner.
Small portions with descriptions of entree including vegetables But these are simply garnishes . Had to order additional sides. Over priced.
Pricey but nice. Views. Ambience and service are excellent.
Gorgeous view but the food is expensive and quite mediocre. Do not order pasta. The atmosphere feels like a high end chain restaurant.
A beautiful and elegant setting. Our server was superb; friendly and efficient. Only thing I could say slightly negative was that I ordered a well-done burger and it was quite pink, but completely edible. The desserts were slightly over-priced, but divine.
Great meal and ambiance
Limewood is strong on service and ambiance. I love going here when it's fine weather and sitting out on the deck. The wine menu is excellent, including my favorite Sauvignon Blanc, Cloudy Bay. The food is good, but the portions are pretty small for the price. I suppose that's an issue with hotel-based restaurants. Pro tip - ask to see the bar menu. They don't always produce it without being asked, and it has some other options, including an excellent burger.
Muy rico, buen servicio y hermosa terraza!
96yo birthday brunch. Excellent food!
For Sunday brunch, it is the perfect atmosphere. The dining room is filled with natural light and roomy with plenty of space between tables. Menu has nice brunch selections, I had the fried chicken and waffle, moist boneless thigh & breast atop a belgium size waffle. I enjoyed it! The food is very good but the waitstaff needs a little work. Water glass was not refilled until we were about to leave, the young lady who brought the entree out couldn't answer our question about the butter and syrup - she tried, but I didn't understand her. Overall, a nice place to come for a brunch with girlfriends or a date!
Our party who ordered the Halibut thought it was very good.
Those of us who ordered the pasta dish- only fair.
But overall a great evening after Cal's great win.
A great place to celebrate—food is very good and service is excellent. It’s very quiet for Oakland and the view is the best in the city.
Outside seating is such a lovely setting. All staff, from receptionist, bartender , and server were professional and kind. Great experience
This was our 4th dining experience. When 2 of our party of 4 arrived first comments were" was it this LOUD before and "it wasn't this bad last time". Even sitting in a both we could not hear each other which really dampens the whole experience. Big difference between energetic buzz and annoying.
Serve was excellent, very professional- positive add to the evening.
Food is executed well as is the presentation, pricey for the amount and for the East Bay unless you're catering just to tourists.
Wine list could have some better by the glass options. Don't mind paying $25 for a modest pour of pinot but not when it is clearly too young to be drunk.
We love the view and the location. The food is very good, not great and rather pricey. The Jerusalem artichoke soup was very flavorful but barely room temp. The I actually prefer the bar menu over the dinner menu. The halibut was a touch dry but the olive tapenade added great flavor. The pork porterhouse was a large cut and juicy which was good. The NY strip was cooked as requested and flavorful. The our favorite spot for the views.
Had a great experience and much better than my last. I would take my old review down if I can figure out how to...
Menu has been updated with some nice additions and service was great! So we were very pleased with the experience and the improvement. Looking forward to going back
The food keeps getting better and better
Nice atmosphere and view from the historic Claremont Hotel. The food was well prepared and beautifully presented. In the restaurant description, it would have been nice to have a very clear indication that it's situated at the Claremont proper to make it easier to find. Programming that location into the GPS would have made finding it easier.
This reservation should have been honored better by the front desk. We made a reservation for three people at 5:45 about a week before our dinner. When we got there on time, the restaurant was practically empty. We were given a table with direct sunlight...Not good as one of us has suffered from melanoma. When we asked for another table without direct sunlight, we were told that all the other tables were reserved. By the time we finished our dinner, there were still tables available that had no direct sunlight. Another problem with our table was that it was in the direct traffic pattern of servers so we had a constant movement of people by our table. We were also dealing with two large parties seated close to us so that we had to talk very loudly to be heard.
Other than this problem, we felt the food and server were very good.
Everything great, but the table next to us was awfully noisy.
Excellent service as always, and generous broad menu.
This restaurant is located inside of the Claremont Hotel. As a result there is a mixture of locals and tourists. View from the restaurant isn't great and better tasting food can be found.
We had an amazing time. Service was great and the food was delicious!
Outdoor patio felt tired and in need of a refresh. Horribly understaffed. Waited 25 min for someone to take our drink order. Soup was cold. Views are beautiful, but I prob won’t go back. Too expensive for poor service.
Sat in car where nots level was minimum. Most at table hdthe pasta filled with goat cheese that was delicious
Unfortunately, despite the phenomenal views we took a work colleague from Korea out to this restaurant. We are local to Berkeley and have used this venue for drinks on the deck, dinners and corporate events. Unfortunately the food was bland, the waitstaff was inattentive and very slow to provide service on most of the meal.
The other disappointing point of this location is the dress code and the individuals coming to this restaurant are somewhat below par. We know Berkeley is casual but Berkeley casual that includes smelly old teeshirts, torn/ragged clothing is a bit much. This place has so much potential but so much further to go to bring it back to a great spot. At this point I can only recommend drinks and can only hope the bar tender is faster and on top of his/her/there/them game.
The offerings on the menu were surprisingly uninteresting. From the list, we selected a green salad with pears. No shrimp on the menu, so I added grilled chicken. I have rarely seen a blander looking, more uninspired salad. The taste was consistent with the presentation—boring.
The service was fine. It was a beautiful day, and sitting out on the patio overlooking the city was delightful.
Surely, Limewood, you can do better than this!
The menu lacks lighter food choices. The meals were large and heavy. Wish they’d had more interesting salad choices. Healthier meal choices would have been nice. I doubt I’ll go back for lunch due to the menu.
always love the ambiance and great service, would love to see more variety on the menu and maybe more appetizers...such a great place for drinks and appetizers after work
Limewood is always great! We were a large party and the food was delicious and timed well. It is always loved by our out of town guests. View is also amazing.
We always do brunch here when we stay at the Claremont.
The hostess and servers were very friendly and service was great.
Everyone loved their food although traditional shredded
crispy hash browns would be better than baby redskin potatoes for breakfast (just my personal preference).
The chicken and waffles were a standout!
Will be back the next time we’re in town!
Truly fantastic service - personable but not too personal, attentive without being suffocating. Love the view, everything was perfectly cooked and well seasoned.
