Hartnett Holder & Co is a relaxed, stylish and comfortable restaurant - full of character, yet unpretentious. Angela Hartnett and Lime Wood’s Luke Holder, with their team, will be creating locally sourced Italian dishes with a respectful nod to the seasons.
Harnett and Holder’s food comes with the much loved Italian approach to eating - where sharing and provenance is everything. The style will be chefs’ home-cooked food not chefs’ food cooked for restaurants. Both Angela and Luke are famed for their informal, grounded style of cooking and their respect for local produce.
Expect a menu of Italian influenced dishes , pulling together both Chefs much admired signature styles.

This was a return visit to this restaurant for lunch after an absence of more than a year. We opted for the offer menu and on the whole it was good except for my fish pie which came in a pastry case which detracted from the contents . My friend had the lambs liver which was served with polenta and onions and was very nice. He went on to have the steamed pudding which was the star of the lunch. The restaurant seemed to use one area only for seating diners which seemed a bit strange when half was not being used. The staff were very professional and the atmosphere was good.

Pitching itself as a more quality and upmarket establishment with the backing of big London name Angela Hartnett devising the restaurant menus. The location is beautiful and the bar and restaurant classy but friendly. I felt a little watched by the staff as it was fairly quiet! Decided to come him as The Pig at Brockenhurst has a very restrictive dog policy.

Whilst on holiday in the New Forest, and as a special treat, we left toddler with grandparents and had a wonderful evening at Lime Wood. Amazing food and exceptional service. Dan and Paolo looked after us. Great fresh pasta with pigeon & olives and then the saddle of lamb, hubby had the gnocchi with duck and then the Hake. Best cheeseboard I've ever seen & eaten. It is expensive but we most definitely got what we paid for. Would return in a heartbeat. Fabulous!

The restaurant is in a beautiful, charming, romantic place. The atmosphere, both inside and outside, is extremely pleasant. Excellent service and beautiful dinnerware. We chose the shared dinner menu, a 5 course, which could be a surprise from the chef or you could know what would be brought, and thats what we chose. There were 2 entrees, a cured meat board which was good and a goats cheese salad, the highlight of the night, so beautiful and delicious!! The 2 main dishes were pasta and lamb. For our great disappointment the pasta was not to the standard of an Italian restaurant at all, but the manager kindly apologised and promised to address the fault. The lamb and the desert were delicious although not great in presentation. Overall it was a nice experience and an enjoyable evening with a beautiful drive through the New Forest.

Heartfelt thanks for all the care you give to ensure a visit to Limewood is so very special. My lunch with my friend was wonderful and I was back the next day afternoon tea with work colleagues. The food is excellent but I have to rate your staff as Superb.

we came for lunch on thursday 13th august and brought a polish friend spending time in england. when we arrived we had a drink in the bar, our table was booked for 1pm and we were not called into lunch untl we mentioned it and thought was nearer 1.30. we had the 19.50 lunch two courses, the starter was very poor, supposed to be beetroot and salmon salad but so small and no salad. the main course being rump of lamb, which consisted of a few slices of lamb on a bed of peas with a sprinkle of mint. no vegetables. we were not even asked if we would like vegetables. we had coffee in the lounge, i thought that coffee was included in the price , i mentioned to the waiter on having the bill, this was deducted. very expensive and poor, i was not impressed at all. i know we opted for the cheaper menu but still think it was poor value for money. i would not go for lunch again. i have had afternoon tea many times and alway enjoyed those and are good value. it is a lovely hotel.

We went for Lunch with our daughters who are 8. They were wonderful with the kids and service was attentive. The food was good and the lunch menu was great value. We were well looked after though there were 3 occasions where we were asked if we wanted to order when we had already done so (one of the waiters who asked if we wanted wine actually tool our order in the first place). Not a big issue just an observation that if the price was at the al a carte menu point we may have been less impressed. Our view is that this is a great Lunch venue but wasn't convinced enough that the food and service warranted the al a carte price point.

The hotel is lovely, But we asked if there was more than one restaurant, and we were told no. But after being seated , it was clear there were two other places to have something to eat.. In fact, three, if you count the mostly vegetarian option, at the spa ( although it is for hotel guests, unless they have room) Unfortunately, it must be hard to find great staff, because over and over again, our waited kept repeating to us," only starters, Only starters", making us feel badly, that we only ordered a light lunch. There were so many heads of house... it was a shame, they could engage in better training for staff, especially as many don't have a fantastic command of the language, that it sort of spoiled our experience, we are in England, where the food is now... better than most of the french ones.

If you've never been to the New Forest, go and start packing the car now. It's a wonderful part of England, and full of areas of outstanding natural beauty, enough amazing places for a couple of weeks with demanding children, and lots of fabulous places to eat. Of these foodie bolt-holes, Lime Wood is our favourite by some way. The property - near the interesting town of Lyndhurst - is right in the middle of the Forest. A short drive away, Lime Wood is accessed through it's own driveway turn off the road - the layers of protection from the stresses of the modern world rather like a layered Russian doll made of trees. Lime Wood's food heavily accents the local - lamb, beef, rabbit, etc. and is delicious without being fussy. We love it!
