Lidia's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Disappointing. I had chicken limone. The sauce was very salty, probably didn’t drain the capers. The chicken tasted boiled, no flavor. The sauce was watery like chicken broth. I expected a sauce with garlic, lemon, a little butter and white wine. Dessert was a tiny piece of tiramisu for $8.00. Service was very slow even though restaurant was not very busy. Will probably not return.
The ambiance, service, drinks, coffee and tiramisu were worth the trip. We tried the fritto misto and were underwhelmed. It was very fishy and rubbery. We also tried the arancini and would not recommend it, the mushrooms were bitter and overpowering. We each got a ceasar salad, served dead and tested just awful. My husband selected the Osso Bucco and he thought it tasted like flavorless, microwave reheated meat. I ordered the pasta trio, the one with red sauce and pancetta was very good, the other homemade offering was a ravioli and it was tasteless and formless. The third option had shrimp and broccoli in a dry imported pasta and it was ok. All in all, we enjoyed the experience. However, the quality of the food fell quite below expectations and we will not visit again.
The food and service were wonderful. Valentine’s day however is not the best day to try out Lidia’s. Too many many people, tables too close together and too much action. The staff at Lidia’s managed it well and the prix fix menu was well done but sometimes, less is more.
First, the waitress spilt the water on my fiancé's plate/dining area. I didn't think much of it. Until that is, the food runner serving our noodles slopped pasta on the table on top of the already spilt water. The table was a mess. The dining experience ended with the waitress charging my card 234.00 on a 145.00 bill. I had to send her back to correct the mistake. It was a very frustrating evening and on Valentines Day of all days.
I attended this restaurant on Valentine's day and I have to say it was a very poor experience. It was very obvious that the night was a money grab. Seating was uncomfortably cramped. None of our food was timely, the correct temperature, or properly salted. Our waiter was noticeably overworked, though it was apparent he was trying hard to keep up. (I do wish he would have dressed in something nicer than a t-shirt and jeans, considering patrons were in suits and dresses.) The "Special 4 Course Valentines Day Menu" was all that was available. Overall the options were disappointing. I have never been to a well-established restaurant that was not skilled enough to serve their full menu on a busy night. This absolutely was not worth the $200 price tag and I really do not think I would return after this experience...which is sad because I had a completely different opinion of this restaurant just prior.
Our table was in a less than good spot, beside a busy pathway and across from a server station. Conversation all but impossible and constant traffic past our table. Not the evening I had hoped for on our 55th Valentines. Restrauant was very busy and they didn't seem to be handling the crowd very well. Food was OK but not as good as I had expected. My wife had the pasta, we shared some and I would rate it on the weak side of good. I had the pork chop which was good but no better. The salad was ok. Heavy dressing and kind of "slick". I rated the experience 4 stars and that is very generous. Our server was excellent and that saved the rating. I expected much more for a $200.00 evening.
I selected the pasta trio and it was fine. However, I can cook any of the three as well or better at home. The waitress was very good, but the time that it took to get a beer is far, far too long. There are too many places to eat, and this is one, where there is no conception that they should get the drinks out and that, in doing so, will profit and make the clients happy at the same time.
We came to Lidia's for options for rehearsal dinner accommodations and had dinner while we were there. We brought our future daughter in law and her mother for dinner. Three out of the five of us got the Sunday dinner special which sounded very good. The salads were good but the pieces of lettuce were so large and had to be cut up a lot in order to eat it. Then our meals were only slightly warm and the noodles were tough and chewy...a disappointment for sure! We have eaten at your restaurant before and it was very good. We thought since it was the nightly special that it would be one of your outstanding entrees. Sorry to say it was not a good experience for us. I hope this helps you to be able to better in the future.
We've always had a great experience at Lidia's, this time was off a bit as they seated us right next to the door in the bar area, in front of the big hearth. Had reservations for a week...after the meal, the Maitre d' did ask what we thought of the seating section as it was something new they were trying. We were kind and said it was ok, but it wasn't what I was used to at Lidia's.
Other than that, the food was excellent and the service was timely. All things I love about Lidia's.
We have been going to Lidia's for years, and return to it for date night or special occasions. The Ambiance is wonderful, the service is excellent, the menu has something for everyone. If you are looking for the traditional Italian restaurant with Pizza and Spaghetti & meatballs, Lidia's is not for you. If you are willing to explore, and you are in the mood for exciting food, you have come to the right place. We are fortunate here in Kansas City, that Lidia chose us for one of several cities in America for one of her restaurants. You will not be disappointed ! Mangia, Mangia
Lidia's pasta never disappoints, the atmosphere is elegant and charming, and the building is pretty. We had a reservation for a late dinner and when we arrived, the hostess said she had to check on something and was gone for several minutes (5-10) prior to returning to let us know if we had a table ready. Had we known there would be a wait we would have walked a few steps over to the bar and sat down, but instead we were waiting at the hostess station unsure of where to go, while two additional employees stopped to try and seat us. Our waitress was pleasant but not as professional as others I've had here and it seemed as if she'd had a long night and was ready to wrap up.
The food and wine were amazing and overall it was a pleasant experience.
Had a lovely dinner at Lidia’s with friends Friday night. It was full and lively, but not overly noisy. No trouble conversing at our table. The food and service were both very good, though I didn’t love my chocolate peanut butter cake dessert. Less expensive wine selection is nice. Also saw the mayor there. Overall very nice evening.
We had tickets for a performance at the Kauffman and thought since we had allowed 1 1/2 hours for dinner, that we didn't need to mention it to the server. As the restaurant filled up, the service got slower so our lesson learned is that we need to tell the server next time. The food was great.
Restaurant was amazing at accommodating my wife, who has a Gluten allergy. They have several GF options, including one GF pasta option. We had the Osso Buco and Salmon during Saturday brunch. Both were amazing! The service was top notch and the restaurant is beautiful. Very highly recommended for GF dining, dates, or any occasion. Thank you Lidia’s Kansas City! Loved our first experience at your amazing restaurant.
I love Lidia's. It is my favorite Italian Food restaurant in the Kansas City area. The pasta is so fresh and you can really taste the difference. Lidia's also has the best Caesar Salad I have ever had. I have eaten at Lidia's multiple times and I have enjoyed every outing.
For a dear friend's 65th anniversary, her choice was Lidia's. It was perfect. Our server helped us find a great wine that we could both agree on. The table side pastas were all delicious and our choice of the beet salad made a great beginning. She appreciated the willingness of the chef to substitute her goat cheese for another choice on her salad. It was capped off with a free dessert that was chocolate-peanut butter-ice cream paradise. Well done to all!
