About Lidia's Pittsburgh

Lidia’s Pittsburgh opened in March of 2001, only two years after Lidia Bastianich and her son Joseph Bastianich opened the popular Lidia’s Kansas City, their first venture outside of Manhattan.

Lidia’s Pittsburgh menu concept is a combination of the New York restaurants, Felidia and Becco.

Lidia's is located downtown in the strip district near the Heinz History Center, Benedum Center, Heinz Hall, Byham Theater, PNC Park, and PPG Paints Arena so it's the perfect place to enjoy a great meal before your event.

The menu features a daily pasta tasting, with homemade pastas that incorporate the season's freshest ingredients in addition to hearty Italian favorites such as the osso bucco, a braised heritage pork shank with barley risotto, the scallopine of chicken breast with roasted lemon, capers, and olives, and grilled salmon filet with seasonal contorni.

Granted, it's the holiday season. I understand that but ... We had a reservation I made a good while ago, but still had to wait 30 mins for our table. They jammed so many extra tables onto the main floor, you couldn't walk between them. Waitstaff couldn't effectively serve people seated in the middle seats, so we had to either be leaned over or pass plates down the table. I had to ask for bread 3 times before it came and then we got 1 tiny basket for 6 people, so I sent him back for another one. Not a lot of refills on water or asks about whether anyone wanted another glass of wine. We all had the pasta tasting, which should be an easy serve, but it was a disaster. 2 of us never got our ravioli, despite several requests. Even the 2nd service of the pastas was very much delayed and that was the first time I got to taste the ravioli. We even had a hard time getting grated cheese for our pasta -- so much so, I almost got up and grabbed the bowl. The person who packed 2 people's leftovers put the containers in 1 bag and couldn't tell whose was whose. I finally asked for containers and bags to be brought to the table and we packed our own stuff. Food was good but this was not a 1st class experience at what is a fairly expensive restaurant. This was basic blocking and tackling, in my opinion. If this had been my first time at Lidia's, I would not return. I have to admit that our main server did approach her manager and took money off our bill because of the very poor overall experience; however, that didn't erase what should have been a fun and enjoyable post-theater holiday outing for a group of friends. The poor service and attention to detail overshadowed the food and our experience. In the past, I would readily have recommended Lidia's but not after Saturday night. And that's a shame because I do like it there. Bottom line: don't cram in more tables than your staff can handle, especially when you have a private party upstairs. So disappointed.

Lidia's Pasta Trio dining option is outstanding. Add the salad and desert and you have a great dinner.
Service was also very professional yet very personable.

A must stop for us every visit to that beautiful city.

Food and service at this place are predictably good. I have dined here many times before and been reasonably happy with the food choices and the services. Nice place to eat - for parties Orr a casual yet formal dinning.
Glad to recommend thus place.

The service was outstanding without being overbearing. The appetizers were very good. The tiramasu was so-so but the plate of cookies was excellent and enough to share 4 ways. 3 of our party got the triple pasta dishes. Although good they were nothing special and none of them would order it again. The other entree, a mushroom ragu canneloni was delicious. The atmosphere was lovely but the bathrooms were so-so. Some nice soaps and a better quality counter would help. Overall a nice experience.

We came to Pittsburgh from Canada to see the football game, and since I always watch Lidia's shows and have several cookbooks of which I use, I looked forward to dining at her restaurant. Our displeasure started early when we had to yell to hear each other, our Caesar salad although a good salad, in no way tasted like it's namesake, I had the trio of pastas, the bolognese was extremely salty, and the gnocchi was a starchy mess of which I could not taste any sage or butter and was terribly under salted, the third was passable, my husband was served 5 minutes before me so of course his dinner was cold. He had the salmon, dry and underwhelming. we were seated on time and the service was just adequate. I expected a more intimate dining experience, and not the cafeteria atmosphere we had, I could have spent a lot less than the $100.00 plus bill we received , at our neighborhood family run restaurant, and had a much more pleasant dining experience . No I will never eat at this restaurant again, and yes, I will tell people of our bad experience. Wendy and Brian

Lidia's was amazing! Made reservations with my husband and brother in law on our way to the airport. The waitstaff was very attentive and super nice. We all ordered the Pasta sampler and they were all incredible: Garlic and butter Gnocchi, Farfalle Pasta with Bolognese, and Taglietelle with veggies and shrimp. Great prices for wine, we also had a delicious Italian Coffee for after dinner drinks. Would highly recommend!

Enjoyed our visit to Lidia's with our son and daughter -in-law. We are from out of town and were very pleased how easy it was to access.

The menu was great, but my wife and I both enjoyed the pasta tasting special, which had three excellent pasta's. I wish I could have tried a few things, but next time. Wine list had great Italian options.

Our waiter, Chenda, was outstanding. Great service

Our 30th anniversary celebration was made memorable by the food, service and ambience of Lidia's. We especially enjoyed the tartare appetizer and knew that the meal would be equally as good. To our delight, it was!
Thanks to the chef and staff for making this an evening to remember. We will be back.

We were so disappointed with our return to Lidia's. After relocating and returning for a family visit, we were excited to return to one of our favorite restaurants. Wait staff was marginal, food was not at all what it used to be, and overall atmosphere was suspect. Even the valet was not on duty, and I had to tell the hostess that the ladies' room needed attention. Both of us shared a concern regarding the future of this restaurant. Definitely not what we expected.

Had dinner at Lidia’s last Thursday night, and it was possibly the worst fine dining experience we’ve had. We’ve never had issues with Lidia’s and have always thought it to be a good and classy restaurant – not any more. It appeared that the “A team” of employees were at the Steeler’s game, as the staff was nowhere near the classy and competent crew that we would expect at a restaurant of this caliber.
The experience started out when my wife ordered a Sparkling Rose’. The first glass was flat, and there was not another chilled bottle in the cooler. Then, we were seated in the dining room at a very wobbly table that had to be fixed. I noticed that my water glass had a speck of food on it.
We ordered a bottle of wine and an appetizer. The bread basket and dips were literally dropped on our table with no explanation. Wine glasses were delivered, and mine was dirty. We are now going on about 20 minutes with no wine. Our waitress had to go check and came back with the old “we are out of that one”, and said that the manager/sommelier would come out to help us select a replacement. More time, no wine. Finally, the “sommelier” arrived with 2 options. I did mention that we were a bit frustrated after sitting at our table for over 30 minutes with not wine. He did choose a suitable replacement. We saw him one more time to refill my glass, not my wife’s, and that was it!
I had the baked ziti and meatballs, and it was terribly underwhelming. The meatballs had huge, pieces of gristle in 2 of the 3 meatballs I ate. My wife had the lasagna with Bolognese, and it was by far the better dish although the sauce was bland . The waitress was very apologetic and offered a free dessert . We accepted, and it was not great either. Needless to say, this experience did not sit well, and we will not be returning. This may have been an isolated incident, but it doesn’t matter in today’s Pittsburgh dinner scene as there are so many other, and apparently better options for my $125!

We came for a pre theater dinner on a Monday, traditionally not a busy night for restaurants. We were hoping to enjoy the pasta trio, which is a favorite of ours. The trio selections did not appeal to me but my daughter enjoyed hers. I enjoyed my entree, but was disappointed in the service. I hope it was a new waiter. He was really trying, but missed the mark several times. It ended with an error on the bill, which he readily fixed. None of the "misses" were major. It's just not the quality of service we are accustomed to at Lidia's.
